Once a month I manually update the pricing data on buyearthbound.com to help fans get the best possible deal and avoid paying too much. I was especially interested to check out prices now that EarthBound on the Wii U has been out for a while, so let’s take a look! Average Prices: EarthBound cart: $163 (up from $162, lowest: $110.00 / highest: $234.95) EarthBound guide: $111 (up from $97, lo...Read More »

The other day, Nintendo asked EarthBound fans to stop by at SDCC and record their thoughts about EarthBound and its recent re-release. The resulting video was posted yesterday here: I have to say, it’s been pretty cool how much attention Nintendo has given a Virtual Console game, much more than I expected! I hope it’s doing well enough that the execs don’t say, “Well, that...Read More »

It sounds like EarthBound is selling well on the Wii U Virtual Console! Exact numbers aren’t given so it’s hard to say anything for sure, but it’s ranked #2 for “recent best sellers”, only being beaten by Donkey Kong: I’m guessing the fact that Donkey Kong costs 30 cents compared to EarthBound’s $10 price tag has a lot to do with it being #1 😛 It also ...Read More »

For those who don’t have a Wii U, I thought it might be nice sharing some pics of EarthBound stuff on the Wii U system, like how it’s presented, advertised, stuff like that. I actually don’t have a North American Wii U of my own, so these pics come courtesy of good ol’ KingDarian! #gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; ...Read More »

EarthBound for the Wii U Virtual Console was released out of the blue the other day, but that wasn’t the only surprise! The game, which was originally rated “K-A” (Kids to Adults) back in the old days, was rated as “E for Everyone” back in 2007 before the Wii VC version was canceled. But this recent release for the Wii U has it rated as “T for Teens”, whic...Read More »

At last, EarthBound’s re-release is here! If you have a Wii U, you can get a copy of EarthBound for the Wii U Virtual Console for $9.99. You can see the official page on Nintendo’s site here. And here’s a pretty cool promo video for it! And here’s the official site for it, which looks pretty nifty! They’ve also included a digital version of the Player’s Guide...Read More »

Back when the Starmen.net/Fangamer guys and I did the live Wii U MOTHER 2 stream, we noticed that some bright, flashy animations were “fuzzier” on the Wii U version than in the original Super Famicom/Super NES releases. I’ve recorded a couple samples for comparison – it’s hard to see in this video but maybe you can tell: Only a few of the PSI animations have this ani...Read More »

By now it’s pretty old news that EarthBound had been rated by the ESRB back in 2007 for the Wii. What I never knew was that it had also been rated by Germany’s ratings board: To see it for yourself go here and enter “earth bound” where it says “titel”. As you can see, it, too, was classified as a Wii release. It got a rating of “6+” and received thi...Read More »

Nintendo announced on its latest Nintendo Direct video that EarthBound is slated to be released sometime this year on the Nintendo Wii U Virtual Console in North America. It’s also going to be released in Europe. The Nintendo Direct link is here. The EarthBound stuff starts at around 22 minutes in. Iwata states that passionate fan messages on the MOTHER 2 Miiverse was a reason for the decis...Read More »

Last week the Fangamer folks and I did a live stream of MOTHER 2 on the Japanese Wii U. We only got to Tenda Village before we had to call it quits. Well, it sounds like we’re gonna pick up where we left off in about two hours or so from the time of this posting. So somewhere around 4:30-5:00 PM Pacific Time or around 7:30-8:00 PM Eastern Time. This is all super-duper impromptu mega-rushly p...Read More »
