speedrun

June 11th, 2010 | MOTHER 3, Videos | 27 Comments

Ross sent this in a little while back. We’ve seen some speed runs of MOTHER 3 before, but I think this is the fastest one so far. Just in case it’s not obvious, this is a tool-assisted speedrun, so it’s more like how the game would be played by a superhuman or someone who’s really, really, really good at games. This is currently the longest gaming or tool assisted video on ...Read More »

For a long time I hoped someone would try a speed run of MOTHER 3 of some sort, whether it’s a real playthrough or a tool-assisted one. It looks like someone has finally started working on a TAS of the game, here’s part 1: I guess most people wouldn’t consider this a legit TAS since it’s using a modified ROM. But I personally don’t care, it’s cool to see someon...Read More »

There’s a glitch in MOTHER 1 with the Bread Crumbs item that can help you skip huge parts of the game. I think the glitch was fixed in EarthBound Zero and MOTHER 1+2, though. For details, see here and here. Anyway, pirohiko, who you might remember also finished EarthBound in an hour, made a TAS video for MOTHER 1 that’s only 25 minutes 😯 Click here to see MOTHER 1 completed in 25 mi...Read More »

The Speed Gamer’s EarthBound / MOTHER series marathon for charity the other day ended with $10,451 in donations, which is apparently the most that any of their charity marathons have brought in. If you helped out, you deserve a donut today! If you missed it, they played 72 hours of MOTHER 1, EarthBound, and MOTHER 3, and because they had so much time left over, they went back and played thro...Read More »

Starting tomorrow TheSpeedGamers will be having a 72-hour marathon of all the games in the MOTHER / EarthBound series. If you haven’t heard of these folks before, they basically play a bunch of games in a short amount of time and have a live video feed and chat room going on, and it’s usually for a charity of some sort. The charity this time is the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundat...Read More »

The other day, pirohiko posted a Tool Assisted Speedrun (TAS) of EarthBound. The previous TAS record for EarthBound was 3 or 4 hours, but this latest run is just over 1 hour total 😯 To do this, legitimate bugs in the game are used to skip parts of the game, no cheat codes or anything were used. If you’re not familiar with what a TAS is, I like to think of it as how a superhuman might play...Read More »

Floogal just let me know about this, but a recent speedrun of EarthBound was recorded by _sdfg, and it has a time of 4 hours and 13 minutes. This was done on a real console, so it’s not a tool-assisted run, it’s legit. It was recorded in 42 different parts, that way individual parts could be re-rerecorded if it didn’t seem optimum. You can watch the speedrun here, and you can rea...Read More »

The TAS community is incredible at finding glitches in games to get really fast speedruns of games, including EarthBound. I knew there were little shortcuts here and there to get through EarthBound faster, but thanks to a post Floogal made on the Starmen.Net forums, I just found out that there’s a way to skip Twoson, Peaceful Rest Valley, Happy Happy Village, Belch’s factory, and Satur...Read More »
