Back in 2011, Shigesato Itoi tweeted that a professional tennis player by the name of Kei Nishikori carried around a Mr. Saturn plush for good luck. I had missed that tweet, but Jack W. posted on the EarthBound Central Facebook page about it showing up on the Tennis Channel recently, so I did a quick search and found it here! I guess he doesn’t know it’s called a Mr. Saturn in English...Read More »

A few years ago there were some gigantic Mr. Saturn things at certain Japanese arcades – if you don’t remember them, see here. Anyway, until today I never realized I’d never seen how one looks from behind. So here’s a pic! …I don’t remember seeing THAT on the Mr. Saturn anatomy diagram 😯 ...Read More »

A fan by the name of broomweed has started on a hack of MOTHER 1+2 to make MOTHER 1 very Mr. Saturn-like, as inspired by comments years ago on EB Central! Here’s a description of the project: Hey, you! Do any of the following apply to you: Haven’t played Mother 1 because of the lack of Mr. Saturns in it Always wondered what the Mr. Saturns would be like in Mother 1 Love trying to deci...Read More »

Back in Feb. 2011 or so, a Japanese TV show called “Tokyo Encount”, which featured lots of game-related stuff, had a little game in one episode that featured a Mr. Saturn! Basically, these two guys on the show had to guess what was inside a mystery box just by feeling what was inside: #gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-t...Read More »

After you defeat Giygas in EarthBound, if you go back to Onett and talk to Ruffini the dog, he’ll tell you to mail your thoughts on the game to a certain real-life mailing address in the United States. In fact, one of the earliest EarthBound community projects was Project Ruffini! Anyway, in the Japanese version of the game, Ruffini (or Itako Dog as he’s known in MOTHER 2) also tells ...Read More »

The other day I posted about the Hobonichi Techo, which is the biggest thing Shigesato Itoi’s company produces now. One of the neat features is that you can order all sorts of different customizations, including covers. Or you can get creative and make your own cover, which is what a lot of people do. A MOTHER series fan by the name of Birdie recently made a custom cover: Amazing work! In ...Read More »

While browsing Japanese sites this time of year, one thing I often see is Mr. Saturn in snowman form! So here are just a few I’ve come across: #gallery-2 { margin: auto; } #gallery-2 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-2 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-2 .gallery-caption { m...Read More »

While browsing stuff today I stumbled upon some Japanese balloon animal stuff somehow, and among the creations was a cool-looking Mr. Saturn that I found here: I have noooo idea how balloon things like this work, so I’m just going to assume that this is tough to make 😛 ...Read More »

Poe put up a bunch more of our MOTHER/EarthBound stuff up for auction on eBay yesterday, here’s a quick look! Japanese EarthBound Anthology I already sort of explained the Japanese anthologies here. These were made and sent to Itoi, Iwata, Miyamoto, and a few other people and media outlets in Japan. In all, I think only 10 or 15 exist. The main text of the anthology was professionally trans...Read More »

There’s a new anime coming soon called “Aoi Sekai no Chuushin de” which apparently uses the old Nintendo and Sega rivalry of the 90s as the basis for a fantasy setting. Or something. It sounds a bit like that Hyperdimension Neptunia game. Anyway, the characters are based off of various games from back then – you got your Mario Bros.-type characters, your Samus-type characte...Read More »
