EarthBound 64

The February 1998 issue of Dengeki 64 featured a lot of MOTHER 3 / EarthBound 64 stuff. Although I don’t have the time to translate it, I think fans of the series will still find it neat. #gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf...Read More »

Aerostella came across this scan from the November 1999 issue of Game Informer. In it, it previews EarthBound 64 but calls it EarthBound 3. (click for full size) Back then I don’t think it was called EarthBound 3 by anyone anywhere, so I’m guessing the editors tried to fix the game’s numbering issue themselves. Even Nintendo Power and Nintendo’s site were calling it EarthB...Read More »

Jack recently sent this in: eBay has a subsidiary company called half.com where you can search for and pick up a lot of things (video games) for cheap. One of the first games I searched for of course was EarthBound, and… the attached picture might evoke some of the same thoughts it did in me. I added it to my wishlist! It’s true! You can see for yourself here. The “EarthBound Ex...Read More »

V-King sent in these scans of an article about EarthBound 64 that appeared in the German magazine Total!, which I guess has no relation to the UK magazine with the same name. Anyway, here’s the article: And here’s the translated text: (more…) ...Read More »

A few years back turkranma made a really nice EarthBound 64 / MOTHER 3 tribute video, but then the other day I noticed that his account was suspended for some reason, so the video was no longer available. Luckily I had a copy of it on my hard drive so I reuploaded it here: I know it’ll never be released to the public (unless someone becomes a super-spy) but how cool it would be to play arou...Read More »

In the summer of 1999, a playable demo of the Nintendo 64 version of MOTHER 3 (henceforth EarthBound 64) was shown to the public at Nintendo Spaceworld ’99. The Internet was still young back then, and we were all naive chaps, so looking back now, it was incredibly lucky for us that one of the very few Japanese fans we were in contact at the time with attended the event, took pictures, and wr...Read More »

A lot of people don’t know the details about the MOTHER series’ history, so let’s take a quick look. At some point in the future I may go into more detail about specific things, but for now, this is just a quick overview that I’ve translated from a Japanese site. Just to be safe, I’ve crosschecked stuff when possible. I’m not claiming this to be 100% authoritati...Read More »

The Notebook, The Proof, the Third Lie By Agota Kristof Find on Amazon (~$11) Find on eBay It’s not too widely known, but MOTHER 3 was inspired in part by a book called “Le Grand Cahier” by Agota Kristof, which was released in English as “The Notebook”. It’s the first book in a three-part series. Itoi first mentioned this fact way back when working on the ...Read More »

If you’re not sure what this is all about, see here. Basically, because of the markings on the disks, it was hoped that the canceled DD64 version of MOTHER 3 was on them. Anyway, it took a long time, but after lots of hard work, the disks’ current owner, coreycorey2000 managed to boot two of the disks a few years ago. One was Mario Artist and one was Sim City 64. He hadn’t been ...Read More »

As far as I know, there are only two videos out there of EarthBound 64 in action. Every once in a while I look at them again and each time I have a different feeling. Like “man this would’ve sucked as a 3D game” or “it could’ve been the best RPG on the N64” or “thank god it was released for the GBA instead” or “Man, I wonder what the story woul...Read More »
