Super Mario Maker is constantly coming out with new characters to play as, and the latest Japanese video has Master Belch from MOTHER 2/EarthBound slated to be playable on Dec. 19th, 2015:
I don’t know if it’s going to be a worldwide release thing all at once, or if it’ll be a Japanese-only thing at first. But holy barf I NEVER expected this! Luckily I have a Japanese Wii U, so maybe in the near future I’ll stream some of it here to get my belch on!
EDIT: And Mr. Saturn too!

I’m sure these will be included in the US update slated for the 21st? Of December. Amazing though that they are being added. Hopefully they will accompany a Super Mario Maker level made by Itoi himself!

Update: They are already live in the US. Just unlocked Belch, about to get Mr. Saturn. Coolest of all is not only so they feature sprites from EB and EBB, but Mother 3 as well!

I just unlocked them in my US version copy of the game. The event stages to unlock them were really fun.

I’ve gotten the Lucas and Ness amiibo in my hands yesterday.
I’m in Japan, and I was getting a haircut. After that, I went towards the area where they sell really fancy pens and all that, and I saw a cart hidden behind a pillar and a whole shelf of toys. The cart was FILLED with a ton of amiibos (including rare ones and most of the new ones). I found Ness and Lucas in the bunch and I HAD to buy them, so thats how I got them.
