Tips for Buying EarthBound

May 14th, 2015 | EarthBound, Smash Bros.

Troy sent this in way back in November. I’m just now seeing it, so this is old news, but it’s new news to me, so here goes!

My freind Boomhauer send me this picture the other day. The internet barely knows of it yet so I decided to tell the people here about it. I hope you decide to put it in an article… Anyways I really like this site and I would love to help with things like this in the future.

And here’s the pic:

porky-trophy-smash

The text says:

Porky was just a chubby, selfish little boy in EarthBound. When he next appeared, in Mother 3, look what he’d become! We might need another two games just to explain how this occurred. Oh, Porky, what in Eagleland (or beyond?) happened to change you so?

I don’t own any version of Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U, so I’ve never seen this before and don’t know what this trophy says in Japanese. It’s neat to see them sticking with the “Porky” spelling and “EarthBound” with a capital “B”. I wouldn’t read too much into the part about another two games, though. I think the Lucas trophy had something equally as silly and/or trolly 😛

Another version of the text is EVEN more trolly! It claims that “we need two more games to explain what happened to him”!

Possibility for Mother 1 and 3 in English or Nintendo trolling us?

“When he next appeared in Mother 3,”

“Appeared in: EarthBound (and nothing else)”

Okay…

My “favorite” part about this trophy is that it’s the design for mother 3 yet only appears in EarthBound. Even Nintendo is acknowledging hey most people don’t know what happened to him because we never released mother 3. Maybe someday…..

The non-fighter Lucas trophy in Smash 4 is a bit trolly and touching in both the NTSC and PAL descriptions.

NTSC: “Before adventuring, Lucas was a timid, cautious boy. His journey has made him a stronger person. Maybe he met someone to spend his life with… Hang on—we’re moving way too fast! For now, remember that Lucas and Ness are favorites in the hearts of EarthBound fans.”

PAL: “Once upon a time, Lucas was a bit of a cry-baby. You might even say he was a wimp. But then, well…he had more than his fair share of rough times and toughened up a bit. Who knows what he’s up to now? Whatever he’s doing, his story – much like Ness’s – lives on in the hearts of all Mother series fans.”

I think it’s interesting they stick with Mother 3 as the name of the next game. I don’t want to read too much into it (more likely, they just used it because the game has yet to be officially named in the US and the fans know it by that name), but if they decided to release a collection of the series, maybe they’re considering just going with the “Mother” title as the official US name for the series. As in, they might rename EarthBound to Mother 2. It’s not without precedent. They’ve renamed the Dragon Warrior games to Dragon Quest in recent years, and past Final Fantasy games got their numbering “corrected” to the Japanese numbering some time ago to prevent confusion.

Now I need to get this trophy. I hope it’s easier to get it this time o_o; (I gave up in SSBB because holy sh*t it was so hard to get it!)

*Gasp!* You don’t own SSBU? It’s like, an EarthBound heaven!

Or they might call it “Mother 2: EarthBound”, since the game did have a subtitle in the original Japanese version.
