Tips for Buying EarthBound

January 2nd, 2015 | EarthBound, Images

A while back, the assistant game designer for MOTHER 2/EarthBound posted a picture of an Onett-themed New Year’s card that APE sent out presumably in 1994:

mother2-new-years

The text translates roughly to, “Our best wishes to you all for the new year.”

I never knew this existed until just now, and I’m also amazed that this predates EarthBound flukes by a good four or so years 😛

I’m guessing ’95 was the year of the pig?

It’s so cool to see stuff drawn in the same art style, but not actually used in the game, like those weird pig things, that Saturn snowman, and Ness and Paula all dressed up!

Cool! If I had the time I would definitely have a go at recreating the sprites used on this card.

Just for reference, the pigs are actually boars, and if you look, the two in the bottom right hand corner are playing with tops. And it was the year of the boar that year in the Japanese Zodiac, if you weren’t sure.

Wow this is a wonderful picture! Onett looks beautiful on a snowy day~~

What I really want to know is what those pig things are… They look a lot like Nruffs from Kirby…

What a cute card! It is just me, or that tornado-looking thing walking on the sidewalk next to the explorer and the punk looks like the Unwelcome Gust from Mother 3?

Ah, that’s refreshing 🙂

@David: I think that’s a type of yukata or something.

@An E and two 8: Looks to me like Ryan-Woo-Pa (the Master of Mu).

@Linkdude: Ah, you’re right! It’s the Master, I forgot that he teleports around in a tornado.

JPEG is too lossy, any chance we get a PNG version of this?

Mato said on Jan. 4, 2015

Unfortunately, I think this is the best version that exists so far.

BEST FLUKE EVER.

By the way, Has anyone noticed the flowers on the top says “1995”? 😀 I JUST noticed it now!

GranTorino551 said on Jan. 9, 2015

I’m thinking about remaking this in Photoshop. It shouldn’t be too hard but it will require some custom sprites.

Hmmm… Challenge accepted.

@GranTorino551

You are awesome.
