A while back, the assistant game designer for MOTHER 2/EarthBound posted a picture of an Onett-themed New Year’s card that APE sent out presumably in 1994:
The text translates roughly to, “Our best wishes to you all for the new year.”
I never knew this existed until just now, and I’m also amazed that this predates EarthBound flukes by a good four or so years 😛

It’s so cool to see stuff drawn in the same art style, but not actually used in the game, like those weird pig things, that Saturn snowman, and Ness and Paula all dressed up!

Just for reference, the pigs are actually boars, and if you look, the two in the bottom right hand corner are playing with tops. And it was the year of the boar that year in the Japanese Zodiac, if you weren’t sure.

What a cute card! It is just me, or that tornado-looking thing walking on the sidewalk next to the explorer and the punk looks like the Unwelcome Gust from Mother 3?

I’m thinking about remaking this in Photoshop. It shouldn’t be too hard but it will require some custom sprites.
