Tips for Buying EarthBound

May 19th, 2014 | EarthBound, Hacking, Videos

One of the biggest, most high-quality hacks that’s in the works is Unearthed, and it looks like it’s going to feature an addition to the battle system – blue magic/PSI!

In other games, this refers to being able to learn a spell or special technique after an enemy uses it. EarthBound had nothing like this at all, but here’s a demo of the new learning system in action:

Unearthed looks to be full of big changes like this, so I can’t wait!

If you wanna keep up with the project more closely, you can follow it on the forum thread here!

Looks to be in its early stages, but still very cool. I guess they felt the original battle system was too simplistic. 😉 Having something new in the mix should be cool, as long as it’s not one of those extremely situational things where it only works on 5/300 attacks in the game or something. I’ve seen a number of games that do that sort of thing…

Very impressive! I hope getting a spell is chance based. It makes it that much more satisfying when you get it.

Unearthed creator here! This hack was a labour of love for me and the PK Hacking team. The codes have been tossed around for years now, but this is the first time a fully functional hack has been made.

I wanted to add a couple of new mechanics to the battle system to make it stand out from the one found in EarthBound, and “blue magic” was something that has always interested me. Hopefully when the game is released, players will appreciate the effort!

This caught my attention because Blue Magic is damn useful in Final Fantasy V. So it’s cool to see an implementation in EarthBound.
