Tips for Buying EarthBound

November 7th, 2013 | MOTHER 3, Videos

A while back we looked at an EarthBound Zero review video done by the Slime TV YouTube guys. They posted a MOTHER 3 video a few weeks back, and here’s what they have to say!

Hi, we previously reviewed Earthbound Zero on our show and it ended up being featured on the site and I’m sending this message to let you know we recently posted a review on Mother 3. Of course we love the series and keep up with the postings here. The review was really made with big fans in mind as we talk a lot about how great different elements of the story are.

Man, I really like their enthusiasm! If you got some time today, check it out!

Everyone on this site probably has already played Mother 3, but it’s a serious understatement when they say at the beginning that this review is a “little spoilery” – they’ll spoil the ending, the main events of the story, everything, no warning, just slipped in casually as they riff on the game.

So if you have any desire to not spoil it, don’t watch this video.

(I played Mother3 as soon as the fan translation came out, and was gearing up to play it again now that I’ve forgotten most of the story, but damn! Spoiled! Guess I’ll wait another year.)

…how do you “forget” Mother 3’s story?

I’m not a huge fan of these guys. They’re all over the place with their review and I dunno, they just rub me the wrong way, I guess.

Also, I can see both sides from Joe and KingOfSwords:

My mind doesn’t work too well in retaining read information unless I read it a lot more than once. With that said, I enjoyed EarthBound and Mother 3 enough to replay them quite often. I can tell you exactly how EarthBound goes chronologically (that should be read as chronologically in MY experiences, lol), but I still wouldn’t be able to tell you Mother 3’s story chronologically, though. I know what happens, but I can’t piece it together where it’s all supposed to go.

I think he means dialog and story beats. Like most rpgs, the story is sort of forgetable. Unlike a lot of rpgs, the characters and setting extremely engrossing and interesting.
