Tips for Buying EarthBound

May 7th, 2013 | EarthBound

By now it’s pretty old news that EarthBound had been rated by the ESRB back in 2007 for the Wii. What I never knew was that it had also been rated by Germany’s ratings board:

To see it for yourself go here and enter “earth bound” where it says “titel”.

As you can see, it, too, was classified as a Wii release. It got a rating of “6+” and received this rating in 2007. So it sounds like the original plan for EarthBound was a worldwide release on the original Wii, not just a North American release like back in 1995.

Thanks to KingDarian for digging this info up!

If English speaking people want to browse the website, I would also suggest clicking on the little “EN” thing in the upper right corner. That way, the whole site is displayed in English.

Makes you wonder if they actually plan to translate the game for the PAL region. They obviously didn’t plan it for the Wii release.

They always said they have no plans, until the certain Nintendo Direct. I’ll never get this kind of marketing.

Was it rated by CERO in Japan?

ChronoMoogle said on May. 8, 2013

Nope, it had been rated because the imported games were also sold on ebay Germany. And lately even old used games (which existed before the USK started to rate video games) need to get a USK rating to get sold to people under 18 years. I hope this avoids misinterpretation.
Greetings from Germany!

So Europeans are generally 9 years ahead of Australians in maturity?

The Apple Kid said on May. 8, 2013

@ Halloween We have already established an “M” in Australia is the equivalent of a “T” in America. An “M18+” is their equivalent of an “M” here.

If that would be the case, ChronoMoogle, it would have been rated for the SNES, not the Wii, a platform it will never be playable on. That would make absolutely no sense.

Germany–Japan relations, lol!

But this is interesting: In Germany some people played Earthbound ON A WII (!) (not Wii U, the old Wii)or what did this mean?
(I don’t think the USK have an SNES – it’s illogically)

So theoretically Nintendo had wanted to release it on the Wii VC but they waited for 6 years only to made it a system seller for the Wii U, which I think it’s just a Wii 1.5?

That’s not thankful – that’s a rip-off!
