This is great. I like how you used “Because I Love You” as the song for the video Mato. That really feels like an appropiate song to hear today, especially with fans thanking Nintendo.

Spidey said on Apr. 17, 2013

-_- Why Nintendo? Why do you still hate some of us Earthbound fans? You are the worst nintendo.

Im was really happy when i found out that Nintendo finally is gonna release Earthbound….Until i found it was for WII U ONLY. HECK NO!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Im not wasting 400 dollars just for Earthbound alone(Thats the only game to entice to buy it). WHY NOT PUT IT ON 3DS TOO? ITS NOT THAT HARD TO PUT IT ON VIRTUAL CONSOLE FOR 3DS TOO, NINTENDO!!!!!! I HAVE A 3DS, And even though i have EB on an Emu, i wouldve gladly bought it from the E-shop nevertheless, in case something happens to my Computer. But nope, Nintendo hates 3DS users when it comes to Earthbound, SO THEY CAN GO LOSE MORE MONEY FOR ALL I CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry if i anger the people here by this comment, but i am so angry at Nintendo for only having a Wii U release, that i don’t care at the moment.

Spidey, they didn’tput Mother 2 on the 3DS either. I’m really disappointed about that too but it doesn’t come as a surprise to me considering we knew that from whenever it was released in Japan. But yeah… I just don’t care about this except I’m going to put my earthbound cart on eBay ASAP.

Heck, I have the patience to save up money for a Wii U now. Even if 90% of money goes to college tuition and bills.

trickster2599 said on Apr. 17, 2013

@spidey Well, almost everything Nintendo related was 1st released in Japan. They didn’t release on the 3ds there, so they might not release here either, yet. Plus, the 3ds already came out, and the wii u just did recently, so they have to make money where it will most benefit them, besides the release of the game.

WolfWoods said on Apr. 17, 2013

On the 3DS thing, they will only release it there if the VC actually starts receiving SNES games, and that’s not the case right now.But there’s a chance of them releasing SNES games soon, since they’re running out of NES/GBC games…at least I think so.

CaptainCab said on Apr. 17, 2013

Prices for EB carts and complete sets are highly unlikely to go down, collectible physical media is still a very desirable option for many gamers. Chrono Trigger has been re-released on PSX, DS, VC, AND PSN but complete sets of the SNES cart (with box, manual, maps, ect) can still easily run apprx between $200-300 last I checked. Another example is the import Treasure shmup Radiant Silvergun for Sega Saturn which has run in the $200+ range for many years. When it was released on XBLA in 2011, some folks thought its ebay prices would go down but they haven’t dropped a bit.

Your comment. That’s what an entitled brat looks like. I’m sorry, but your response is so incredibly self-centered, selfish, childish, horrible, and pathetic that it downright makes me angry.

How dare you? Seriously, how dare you even type that festering load of self-entitled, whiny, over-blown, disrespectful stupidity.

I really hate you. I hate you very much. You are everything that is bad and wrong about a fanbase.

Your incredible entitlement, selfishness and stupidity infuriates me so much I can barely even think straight.

Where do I begin with this? It’s taking every bit of self-control I have not to just type an endless barrage of swearing at you, so I will actively refrain from profanity, though that is VERY difficult right now.

But where do you get off even being such an entitled selfish brat, to disrespect Nintendo for FINALLY pulling off the miracle of all miracles and finally making Earthbound commerically available for the first time in years, just becuase YOU don’t have the system it’s released on.

How selfish are you? How horrible are you? How disrespectful, ignorant, and pathetic can you BE?

All your whining, all your crying, all your sniveling, all your pissing and moaning, it’s all about you. It’s you you you you you. Wahhh. I don’t get what I want. I’m the only person in the world. The world revolves around me. Want want want. Cry cry cry. Me Me Me.

Nintendo is horrible because YOU are inconvenienced? What right do you have to even critizise Nintendo for this? It makes nothing but complete sense.

Nintendo’s current system is the Wii U. The Wii is discontinued. The Wii is not the seller right now. This is not just an Earthbound thing. And it’s certainly not a YOU thing. You act like Nintendo personally went on a crusade, and woke up this morning, knowing exactly who you were by name, and decided “Hey, we’re going to ruin the life of this ONE kid, today.” This honestly looks like how you’re thinking about this. As if Nintendo actually just hatched this WHOLE plan just to target you.

How deluded, self-centered, whiny, disrespectful, brainless and pathetic do you even have to BE to act like Nintendo, The Universe, Earthbound, and everyone on the earth revolves around YOU just to give YOU what YOU want, as if you have ANY right to be this entitled, selfish, whiny, knee-jerking, reactionary, and deluded to pitch this much of an entitled, delusional bitchfit about you not getting exactly what YOU wanted on a silver platter.

You have an immense amount of growing up to do, as well as having MILES to learn about self-entitlement, and realistic expectations.

The fact that such a momentous occasion can be so thoroughly and unnecessarily crapped all over by someone as entitled, selfish, whiny and ignorant as you, over such a stupid detail just because YOU don’t have a Wii U, as if you act like Nintendo as a company is built for the sole purpose of coming directly to your house, and asking what YOU want.

What else would you like, o master of the lamp? Would you like 900 copies of Eartbound? How about having them all for free? Because apparently if you aren’t delivered everything you ever wanted on a silver platter, your sole recourse is to cry, and throw a fit and throw such a horrible tantrum until you get all these things, just because YOU and YOU ALONE feel entitled by Itoi, Nintendo, and God himself to give it to you.

You disgust me. You disgust me to the core of my being on an intense and personal level.

Vanasto said on Apr. 17, 2013

Inverse – congratulations! Not on the announcement, which I’m sure you’re excited over since you clearly already own a Wii U and can pay the price of a movie ticket to play EarthBound legally. Rather, I’m congratulating you on making *yourself* the kind of terrible ranting fan who makes this community look bad.

Although I think Spidey used whiny, exaggerated language in his post, he (she?) had decent points. I’ve been wondering myself why people would be dumb enough to shell out hundreds of dollars on a failing system for one game, when you could buy the original cart and a SNES for a similar cost? And emulation is always free… so the only way this works out is if you already own the hardware, or have been really wanting to play some of the other titles and EB’s announcement pushes you over the edge to buy. If Nintendo would release this on 3DS, then that would make this game affordable to a larger group of people who wouldn’t need to buy new hardware, such as Spidey. Honestly I’ve got a feeling that this whole rerelease is a shameful ploy by Nintendo to sell more WiiUs to suckers eager to shower Nintendo with money since they “pulled off the miracle of miracles” by letting us have a digital copy of a 20-year-old game with no additional content, after having to sit around and watch Japan enjoy it first of course. The only people for who this really is good news for are those who already own a WiiU and prefer to pay the VC price rather than using an emulator. Oh, and if we’re lucky, maybe this will attract a new generation of spiteful fans as well!

tot said on Apr. 17, 2013

You are all celebrating prematurely. The Wii U is Nintendo’s worst-selling console since the Virtual Boy. Even the GameCube sold more. Even the VITA is selling more than the Wii U.

Nintendo is sending out this game to DIE. The amount of people who own a Wii U is tiny. Even Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate wasn’t enough to bring up the sales of the console. What makes you think a niche game like EarthBound will?

EarthBound will bomb in the U.S. Virtual Console, just as it bombed on the SNES over a decade ago. And when it does, Nintendo will once again think that Americans do not want this series. And now we will NEVER get Mother 3 or 1. Ever.

If Nintendo were to just release this game on the original Wii’s virtual console, or the 3DS, this wouldn’t be a concern at all. The Wii still has a HUGE playerbase, EarthBound would be much more successful on it. But nope, this is Wii U-only. Nintendo has already decided the fate of this re-release and it isn’t good. Why on earth did they have to wait until their worst ever console to finally re-release EarthBound? WHY???

Only time will tell us if the fanbase of this series will actually put their money where their mouth is. Will enough Starmen.net / EBCentral visitors buy the game to give it a good chance at the market? I’ve yet to see proof of this. Most EarthBound fans never shelled up the hundreds of dollars to buy the SNES cart on Ebay. What makes you think they’d be willing to shell out $300-$350 for the Virtual Boy 2 just because EarthBound, a game they can already play for free on an emulator, is on it? Believe me, I hope to GOD I am proven wrong, and that the game sells miraculously well. But that is simply an impossibility at this point, given the state of the Wii U. No one is buying the damn thing.

Bucky said on Apr. 18, 2013

aerobert said on Apr. 18, 2013

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the news (forgot about the Direct). Earthbound come to VC GLOBALLY!

Us Scandinavians have been blessed with a lot of great Nintendo games, but this one was the one that got away.

Finally! 18 years of waiting!

Anon said on Apr. 18, 2013

@Tot: This is the normal business pratice for things like this. They know the game has a huge following, and they try to use it to their advantage. Duh.
The WiiU might have a bad start, but there have been few consoles that did not have one. Remember the 3DS? Yeah. GameCube? Sure do. Or even PS3 and xBox 360. It works that way. And now, that the WiiU is out for 6 Months, has sold >3 Million units (Which is about one million more than the Vita has sold since launch, btw.), you already doom it.
gg, man, gg

It is equally fantastic that Europe is finally getting to experience it for the first time. Today is indeed a day of celebration for all Earthbound fans (including those who may have never been able to play the series until now) – Thank you so much Nintendo for giving the fans what they asked for! 😀

I don’t own a Wii U, but I think that this is a huge success for the fans of Earthbound. Despite being the only game commercially released outside Japan, it’s finally getting a re-release. FINALLY.

Fans and owners of the game can now purchase a legal copy of the game without dishing out hundreds of dollars (on the game itself.)

It’s a win! A big win and it’s recognition for the Mother fans all-round, whether you have a Wii U or not.

Congratulations everyone!

To: All People Who Are Whining said on Apr. 18, 2013

Guys, it’s on the Wii U just like it was in Japan. And if you really like Nintendo then you shouldn’t be whining. I realize it would be more convenient for everyone if it were on 3DS but didn’t most of you play this on your PC, anyway. PC, something stationary.

Some smart phones now can have some emulators but still, why are you angry about not being with the times yet?

And it’s not like you’re never going to buy a Wii U. Wait until the next 3D Mario comes out. Or Smash Bros. Or Zelda. Or… anything good.

I agree, the Wii U right now is how the PS3 was it’s entire life. No games.

But it’s going to be coming out late this year. The Wii U will actually have a few games by then so there’s more reason to get one.

Bionicfemme said on Apr. 18, 2013

I hope Nintendo releases some new Ebound merch too, that would be really cool.

Will Fangamer have another EB Fanfest when it’s released? They totally should!!!

“Based Nintendo”…because the best way to thank a Japanese company in English is to use a stupid meme no one over there would understand.

Are you… thirteen?

I love Nintendo. Everyone here probably does, but that doesn’t mean they can’t find fault with the company. It’s not “whining” if you’re just stating that the Wii U costs too much for a system with no games, or if you believe this is a marketing ploy to sell more systems. That’s not whining at all.

People don’t need the Wii U. Their lives can go on. I didn’t buy a Wii until last year, and I primarily use it for Homebrew. It doesn’t matter that it has three major Mario titles or whatever; I still don’t feel that my $150 dollars has been redeemed. Why would I buy a Wii U now? I probably will later, and most gamers will do the same thing.

Why you’re trying to degrade the PS3 is beyond me, unless you’re a Nintendo fanboy. The PS3 has some great titles, and I one more PS3 games than Wii or 3DS games. Not only that, it also has Ni No Kuni: The closest thing we’ll ever see to a Mother 4.

…but the Wii U will not have the important titles later this year. An all new Zelda? Nope. Do we have any idea what the new Mario game will be like? Nope.

So, call me a whiner, but I’ll call myself a rational thinker.

xkcccc said on Apr. 18, 2013

@Runaway Dog: One could argue that the best way to thank a Japanese company in English is not to thank them in English, but hey, a thank you is a thank you even if it doesn’t make much sense.

And I’m sure they have the same internet as everyone else (whose internet isn’t censored), at least a few Japanese people with English fluency who looked into the meme or foreigners living in Japan would probably understand what it is. Not everyone though.

Runaway Dog said on Apr. 18, 2013

@ xkccc

Did I say they didn’t have the same internet as everyone else? They don’t live in a culture where a rapper says some stupid sounding thing and you have a million 4channers turning it into a meme.

If you’re going to thank a company who for the most part does not speak the same language as you, it is idiotic to use a meme that not even everyone over here understands. “Based Nintendo” means absolutely nothing to someone with a limited understanding of English.

I can pretty much guarantee you that knowyourmeme.com is not on anyone at Nintendo Co. Ltd’s shortlist of frequently references websites.

To: Bucky said on Apr. 18, 2013

Nice strawmam, Bucky. I shouldn’t validate what you said because of your logical fallacies, but you probably didn’t notice so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Ni No Kuni, I haven’t to be honest and I don’t know really anything about the narrative other than that the protagonist’s mother dies and there are pig people. What I’ve heard as to its quality is that you either loved or hated it.

It’s narrative may be Mother-esque, I doubt it’s as good. The visuals especially. They just seem so ‘meh’ compared to the Mother series.

And there is a fanmade Mother 4 in the making. What they’ve completed and shown so far looks pretty nice.

You should look into it.

Bucky said on Apr. 18, 2013

To: Bucky

“Logical fallacies?” You really are thirteen, because your spelling and typos leave something to be desired.

“Ni No Kuni, I haven’t to be honest…”

What? Is this a statement? Don’t you mean: “I haven’t played it to be honest?”

If you have not played it, what can you say about it? Nothing.

Just so you know, Level-5 developed that game with STUDIO GHIBLI. Are you familiar with either company? Level-5 have often worked with Brownie Brown. You know, that company that helped develop Mother 3? They also worked on one of the recent Layton games, with a bonus game called “London Life.” It’s Animal Crossing meets Mother 3.

So, whatever you have to say about Ni No Kuni is irrelevant. It’s a VERY high rated game, one of the few REAL RPGs made in the past few years, and Mato even has a couple of articles on Earthbound Central about it.

You should look into it.
