Tips for Buying EarthBound

January 25th, 2013 | Images, Itoi, MOTHER 3

The other day I posted about the Hobonichi Techo, which is the biggest thing Shigesato Itoi’s company produces now.

One of the neat features is that you can order all sorts of different customizations, including covers. Or you can get creative and make your own cover, which is what a lot of people do.

A MOTHER series fan by the name of Birdie recently made a custom cover:

Amazing work! In fact, it’s so impressive that it even got featured on Itoi’s site the other day!

Chewy’s translated what the Japanese text says about Birdie’s planner – you can see the translation here.

Those of you who’ve picked up one of these planners, have you decorated it in any EarthBound/MOTHER sort of way? If so, share it in the comments!

That’s awesome. Man, that cover beats a lot of the ones on the official website. I’d snap it up if it was ever for sale 😀

Lately I’ve taken to using the awesome custom-made MOTHER 3 bookmark I got for my birthday last summer to save my place in the planner.
(By and by, I’ve found that the Techo’s a great way to record poems that reflect my state of mind at the moment. I’m a real lit-junkie XD)

I wonder if this is the same person who has a store on etsy called FishingForBirdie. I bought a truly amazing handstitched Mr. Saturn bookmark from them.

I like hand made stuff. I already have a simple planner though… and it’s pretty cool to keep track of stuff. I want a bookmark too!

Thanks for the feature! It’s really nice seeing my work everywhere at the moment.
A cause of a minor freak-out, actually: yes, I own the Etsy store Fishing For Birdie and both the bookmarks described above are my work. The custom Hinawa one was some fun work and it was a lovely request to get!
I’ve put up instructions for making your own techo cover here (http://forum.starmen.net/forum/Fan/Forum/Hobonichi-Techo-2013/page/1#post1913844) and I’m sort-of taking further commissions if you send me a message on the starmen forums – I’ve sort-of left Etsy now after concluding I would never be able to charge what my work was worth.
I’d link you to a website but all I really have is a tumblr (fishforbirdie.tumblr.com) that is currently inactive.

@Birdie: Oh my, so you were the person who did my bookmark! I guess I should have realized when I saw the cover. :O I’d just like to say: thanks so much for making such awesome gifts (I use Hinawa and the Flint bookmarks all the time) and keep up the great work~

No, thanks to you! It was such a sweet custom request to receive. That made me really happy working on it, and it makes me even happier now to know it’s much loved.

Edit to above comments: I do now have an active website, fishingforbirdie.com. And if Mrs. Saturn is still around – may I use the photo of your bookmark you linked to above on said website? I only took one photo of the bookmarks before I posted them and it’s pretty rubbish. I’d credit and link back, of course.

@Birdie: Sure! 😀 If it helps, I took one with Flint in it too.
The only problem is that Flint is a little wrinkled, due to me being careless… I hope it doesn’t detract too much.
Best of luck with your site!

@Mrs. Saturn: Brilliant thanks! I’ve posted it up, much better than my photo.
