Tips for Buying EarthBound

November 27th, 2012 | Audio Stuff, EarthBound, Itoi

Itoi’s site sometimes hosts live concerts of video game music – and a MOTHER 2 concert was apparently held last night. Such short notice was given that I missed it, but hopefully I’ll get some MP3s of it or something to share soon.

The concert this time was a collaboration between Hyadain and Professor Sakamoto. Both are well-known video game music remixers/players in Japan. Professor Sakamoto actually did a concert with Itoi’s site a while back, but I think this might be Hyadain’s first time.

If you’ve never heard of either, here are some older samples of their work:

Prof. Sakamoto: MOTHER Piano Medley

Hyadain: Tonzura Brothers

For this live concert, they apparently played a bunch of MOTHER 2 music. I can’t seem to find an archived video of it (although that’d be great if anyone could get it) but Aquas somehow managed to get a bunch of MP3s! Here’s a sample of one:

Twoson

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

You can get all of Aquas’ MP3s here:

You can also see the official site here!

I was nearly moved to tears with that medley… It was utterly phenomenal… Why did I have to listen to it in a public place?! Ugh, teary eyes… XD

And I loved the Money song! That was so fun and catchy!

As a big fan of Hyadain, Prof.Sakamoto, and Mother, how in the world did I miss this? I knew Sakamoto was on a number of songs on Hyadain’s new album, but this!?

Hyadain even dressed as a Tonzura Brother! From his Twitter: http://i.imgur.com/cfLsN.jpg

I actually managed to catch half of this concert early this morning (thank goodness I wake up early for school!) It was super awesome!

This begs the question: Why doesn’t 1101 allow a majority of its broadcasts to be viewable after they’re finished?

Thanks again for the MP3’s Aquas. It appears the video archive can be watched here but only if you have a paid Premium Subscription: http://live.nicovideo.jp/watch/lv116343018

That man has a Famicom on his head!

Is there anyone that happens to be a premium subscriber on niconico that could rip the event, or am I pretty much grasping at straws here?

Those videos are just incredible. The Mother medley sounded so good; I couldn’t believe he was playing on an electronic keyboard! Also, the Tonzura Money song was pretty awesome, too. If that’s how they really sounded, I know why they were so popular, now! xD I wonder whatever happened to them after all the stuff at Fourside… They were never seen or heard from again after they saved Ness and company in the Monotoli Building. I lied. They were in a Giygas prayer cutscene in Summers… So I guess they made it big over there. I’ll betcha they got into another bad deal…

Oh, and Twoson, also. No use in asking how many songs are there because I’m about to find out after I download them. :p Thanks!

I purchased a premium account on NicoNico just to watch this. There was a lot of talking for the first ~1.5 hours. It’s all worth it once they start playing though. Their rendition of Twoson’s theme as well as Tonzura Brothers: MONEY! were awesome! Well worth the ~$5 for a premium account.

JB2448 said on Dec. 4, 2012

Is there any way you can download it or record it in some way so that non-niconico premium members can watch it? It’d be most appreciated.

I watched it live and couldn’t rip it from any methods I knew of. I took a lot of screenshots but messed up most of them due to using Paint. The arrangements were beautiful. And I mean come on, Tanaka on bass and Suzuki on guitar!

This guy seems to have just now put up the performance videos http://www.youtube.com/user/TruthSealed/videos/

But I really wish I could find the first hour since it was essentially a long interview with Tanaka and Suzuki. I would need to watch it again to understand a lot of the Japanese. My favorite parts were Hyadain humming Earthbound music while the other dude is interviewing the composers. Also a shout-out from Prof to overseas fans, “Of course it’s called Earthbound overseas, they’ve done a lot of arrangements putting up videos and such and it’s a beloved game.”

That YouTube account is actually mine, and I got them from http://www.nicovideo.jp/user/25933094/video. If you don’t mind, and if your timeshift hasn’t expired, can you try to rip the broadcast with Kakoroku Recorder: http://jrcach.tumblr.com/post/27320617926/this-is-the-repost-of-my-past-article-these-two

Oh, it was yours? Haha, I just happened to find them while using google to see if the video had been uploaded somewhere before I posted.

Unfortunately my viewing period has expired. I wish I had known about this recorder beforehand. I could be wrong, but it looks like even premium accounts can’t watch anymore.
