I was browsing Starmen.Net’s archives from 10 years ago this month and realized that it was about 10 years ago exactly that the first rumors about the MOTHER 1+2 port and the MOTHER 3 GBA release started to leak out. Here’s the first one we heard of, posted on July 3, 2002. It’s from the old Japanese “Famitsu Cube” magazine:

Miss Rumor:
I’ve heard that one game company is going to revive a masterpiece RPG of the past for Advance.
And it’s not your usual ordinary game.
The one-and-only masterpiece that everybody has long waited for.
And this is the part where it gets interesting.
They’re first gonna release the revived games, but after that, there’re gonna release a completely new sequel for Advance!Mr. Truth:
Hmm, a masterpiece of masterpiece RPGs… you mean “******”?
No kidding!? I can still believe the part about reviving for Advance, but it’s hard to believe the part about a new sequel on Advance…
Well, but if it’s true, I would like to believe the happy news!
I’d completely forgotten about this rumor, it’s cool to see that it came to be 100% true. Even if it did take almost four years for MOTHER 3 to come out 😛

Apparently this was in July 2002, and in Sept. 2002 there was this: http://starmen.net/siteinfo/image/smnetinegm3.jpg
The M1+2 commercials didn’t happen until like March or April 2003 or so.

Such exciting times. I wish we had another official Mother game to look forward to!
Even though I got into the Mother series recently (last year or so), this is really interesting. I like reading about the history of these games.
@ NeoDarkrai Me too. That is, I played EB for the first time when I was about three years old (not even kidding), but I used to be scared of it, go figure. Haha! Then, somewhat recently, I grabbed a ROM of it for the nostalgia trip, and suddenly, “HOLY CRAP, this is awesome!”
But I digress. I feel a bit sad that I didn’t know all of the special details until much, much later. Kind of makes me feel left out. In a sort of good way, if that makes sense. Whatever, I haven’t had any sleep in the past 22 hours. That might be the problem.
Yet I still digress.
Interesting. I visited SM.net regularly during that time, and I kept up with the news. I distinctly remember first hearing about the GBA revival of Mother 3 from the M1+2 commersial, which seemed to come out of nowhere. Did I just miss this? Were U.S. fans already aware of it?
