Once again the flood of Itoi interview translation continues as Chewy blasts through her NaNoTraMo stuff!
This time we’re treated to an interview in the January 31, 1997 issue of Famitsu. In it, Shigesato Itoi and Satoru Iwata discuss stuff from the ill-fated Nintendo 64 version of MOTHER 3. Here’s an excerpt:
Nagata Moving on, what’s the deal with the battles that Itoi’s always raving about like a madman?
Itoi How rude! (laughs) I’d like to talk about what it is, but I can’t yet.
Iwata It’s still in the testing stages. For example, MOTHER 2 had the monsters visibly walking around the field map. And when you touched one of the monsters, you entered the battle. So first and foremost we wanted to expand on that. In short, we’d like to allow strategies against the monsters right on the field. Not so battles become obligations, but so it becomes more fun.

Actually, Chewy did those last two interviews as well. Much thanks, Chewy. The pile of untranslated material is shrinking faster than ever.
But, knowing Tomato, you’re probably right about him being too busy. Hey, Tomato! Where are the last two episodes of Food Fight!?
Actually, if I had access to better quality videos, I would translate the last two (and the maybe the two specials) myself. Too bad all I can find are those crappy Chinese VCDs. Has NHK put any of their other Saturday drama series on DVD?

@EBrent I did say that Chewy translates this. Thank you chewy. I do feel really ashamed that I can help translate this stuff but I don’t. I know Japenese pretty well.

Thanks a bunch, Chewy. That interview sure showed a lot of attitude toward the project. Plus, we finally have more info about the concept of the controls for the N64 version. =)

I just wish we had scans of the pages where the interviews originated. I’d very much appreciate to see photos of Satoru Iwata before his time as NCL’s president.
Sheesh Mato. Your going over board with translating! 0-0. I think you should take it down a bit. You have your self too busy. ALthough Chewy translated this you have been translating a lot.
