A long while back I posted a GSF archive that included all the music from MOTHER 1+2. Courtesy of MaxOfS2D, here’s an MP3 archive of all the music from the MOTHER 2 portion of MOTHER 1+2:
- MOTHER 2 GBA MP3 archive (159 MB)
Honestly, there’s no real point in downloading this – I highly recommend getting the Super NES EarthBound MP3 archive off of Starmen.Net here instead. The GBA music is pretty disappointing – I’m secretly hoping someone will show up to save the day and redo the music like Final Fantasy fans have been fixing the music in the GBA Final Fantasy games.
I was hoping to someday do a side-by-side comparison of a bunch of music from both versions of the game, but I don’t have the time. If someone could make a video (unless one has already been made?) comparing a bunch of them that’d be awesome. Actually, the sound effects took a huge hit too, so comparing them would also be a good idea.
UPDATE: Fixed the download link.

I’d try it myself if I had the right tools. Or musical talent.

I just updated the download link, apparently the .zip file was corrupt before.

I thought this would NEVER come to be…
Thanks!
Here’s a Mother 1+2 music question: back when the Mother 1+2 translation was demonstrated during the Fanfest, Mother 1’s music had some really offbeat drumbeats, and it sounds normal in rips lying around the internet (although it still has the odd techno drumbeats); what was the deal with that offbeat music?
it’s neat to have it here, even though i already have the full soundtrack of m2.
Speaking of Mother 2 on Mother 1+2 I’ve been recently playing it using the M1+2 Translation Patch.
Now, it’s been quite a while since I’ve shown up on here, but I agree that the sound is nerfed to the point where you may as well just have the SNES soundtrack play the music as you play the GBA version… actually, you may as just play M2 on the SNES instead, then it’d be in ‘better’ Engrish too. (or on an emulator if you’re like me and don’t live in N.A)
I’ve only picked out one sound glitch that hasn’t been mentioned (it’s pretty minor) and I just got reminded due to the sound of M2 being brought up. Very occasionally the ‘white noise’ played when an enemy is defeated doesn’t cut out (making the game sound like an analogue T.V without a signal) it’s easily fixed by defeating another enemy, this was also present on a vanilla Mother 1+2 (so it’s not your patch causing it Mato 😉 )
Redoing the GBA Final Fantasy music? Do you have a link? Google isn’t giving very helpful results.
kik, i got all 4 games in japanese, complete in their boxes. And i played them in japanese, only recently started to play m3 translated. Portugal sucks in what comes to EB
@mark:
I believe Mato is referring to the Final Fantasy 5 Advance sound restoration patch

The Jackie’s Cafe/Bar music in MOTHER 1+2 should pase if the game is remade. It doesn’t seem to have our gang. But I don’t see what people have against the GBA soud track. Both the SNES and GBA have a good sound track. EarthBound has music beyond the super Nintendo.
Also, playing m1+2 via gbplayer seems to solve the issues,or is it just me
@ness-kun it isn’t you, it’s no wounder how MOTHER 3 can some how support that music but MOTHER 1+2 can’t. Nobody can say that the MOTHER series has bad music. I’ve never heard any other music like it. Even MOTHER in my opinion has way better music than other game minus MOTHER 2+3 today. But really a bit off doesn’t seem to matter

Mark: These are what I mean:
Final Fantasy V GBA music restoration: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/563/
Final Fantasy VI GBA music restoration: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/657/
I thought there was one for FFIV too but I might be wrong.
hey! i didnt know where to write this, so i just opted for the most recent post on the site. did you guys know that if you show the runaway 5 the money everdred gives you while you are backstage at the theater, they each have a unique line about it? i saw that the eb mother2 comparison did not mention, as well as the eb gamescripts i have come across, so thought i would share just in case.
I actually wanted to make a video/article comparing the music in EarthBound to the music in MOTHER 2 GBA, but the only thing holding me back was not having the GBA music as MP3’s. But now that I have this, I might now make the video.

Anonymous: Yep, the game is filled with little things like that. You can also do it with the Diamond when you’re saving the Runaway 5 in Fourside.
Also, try using the Carrot Key on the cow in Happy Happy Village.
@TickelMeBender, the songs are really not all of that different in retro spect (If that’s how you use that word ;)) But there are a couple of songs honestly are horrible and WAY different. I’m not the one to complain but if you wanna use all of the different songs go for it. I’ll be sure to watch that video :D. These songs are the ones REALLY diferent: Porky’s house, Battle against a weak oponite, Jackie’s Cafe, Twoson (Which I atually think sounds better), Battle 2, Giygas is wounded, Giygas is fatally wounded.

I still don’t get why everyone rips on the FF GBA games music. I think they sound just fine, and in the case of FFVI’s opera scene, even better then the original.
The Mother 2 GBA music on the other hand, yes that is very noticeably different and bad.

There’s a topic about this on Romhacking.net actually. Here are some examples of the FF5 GBA vs. SFC differences:

FF has the same amount of problem with this stuff. EarthBound has really good music and Did really good on the GBA. it may sound horrible but it can be worse
FFV Advance sounds better than other FF games on the same system, like Tactics Advance and Dawn of Souls; at the very least, all the sounds are sampled instead of some of the instruments consisting of crappy-sounding waveforms. The music restoration patch sounds better than the SNES at parts though so the effort wasn’t wasted.
Mother 2 is outright inexcusable; the samples are of poor quality and a lot of the songs are either off-pitch, off-beat, or off key in some way. The SNES version’s soundtrack had a lot of effort put into it to tailor it to the SPC chip; this is noticeable when you dump an SPC from the game into SPC2MIDI and find out the result sounds nothing like what you put into the program. It’s very clear they didn’t anywhere near put the same amount of effort into designing the game’s sountrack around the GBA when porting it.

I *completely* take back my opinion that the GBA version is more appropriately strange. It’s terrible!

I personally like how some of the GBA tracks sound; it’s hit and miss, really :p
Honestly, given the fact that no other projects are in the works ATM…it may seem like a great venture for someone to hack the music. I mean, it’ll be difficult, but at least if someone does it, or at least just makes “proper” music from Mother 1 and Mother 2 using the GBA technology, we can see how well the music could have been, had it been given the proper treatment…
Neat I always liked the GBA sound track
