The Newcomer’s Guide to MOTHER

There’s a zillion Super Mario World hacks out there, as many probably know. There’s one called The Tale of Elementia. Part of it features a Tanetane-like place from MOTHER 3, and even includes hacked music to sound like Tanetane Island’s music:
Juanito, who sent this video to me, also says:
Also, upon reaching the goal, it plays part of the ending song from EarthBound. And one of the overworld songs is Pollyanna. Another level has a train, which uses the Tazmilly Village song and the train song.
I’m not sure where to get the latest version of this hack though, so if anyone knows, please share the URL!

It’s a cool hack, but the host is kind of annoying.
I also hear some music from Paper Mario, mario 64 and some other games. Whoever done this hack is a real fan of nintendo in general.

Agreed. The hack was fun to watch AND the host got on my nerves. He swears too much.
That was damn cool. I actually liked the host, at times I would look left to see his totally deadpan face and just laugh.

I think this is it, the first video this guy made of this patch says this is the “final” version, since the creator is no longer working on it.

Man, I’m so glad I’m no the only one that thought the host was bland and suffered massively from “tries too hard”
I didn’t want to look like a jaded bitterpuss though <_<
Also, on the site where I found this link, a few people made a couple song remixes of mother/earthbound songs with the Super Mario World instruments.
People hack and make Fan games all of the time. A lot also have so much to do with Mother. Intresting game
For those who don’t know, the LPer is Jay Pavlina (aka the guy who make Super Mario Crossover).
I’ve been a member of SMWCentral for about 3 years, and yeah, the community is pretty great at porting music from other games and ripping graphics from other games as well.
Tale of Elementia is kind of old by now, as it is about 2 years old.
Some of the ports submitted even use samples from other games or the original game the song came from, which is pretty awesome. I don’t think any EarthBound/Mother ports use samples though, as they are relatively new to the SMW hacking scene.
I think Tale of Elementia has a few more Mother songs in it, as the creator of the hack is/was a pretty big fan of the Mother series.
And to play it, you need a SNES emulator, a SMW ROM, and the IPS patch from SMWCentral. I used Lunar IPS to patch it but I think some other patching utilities could work as well.
I don’t know if the game will run correctly on the newest version of SNES9x or bsnes, because recently SMWC figured out that we have been porting music “incorrectly” as some songs don’t actually work on real SNES systems, and the newest versions of bsnes and SNES9x have more accurate SPC700 emulation.
I should also mention that an earlier version of The Tale of Elementia had another Mother 3 song, Mind of a Thief.

There’s a small Mr. Saturn sprite in it.
Also, the official trailer for the hack had an EarthBound remix playing in the background.
I actually really like him as an LP’er. It’s a good contrast to the really upbeat, floppy guys. knowatimean?
Oh wow lol, I was playing this hack, and I found something cool. If you press start on the world map, and go to the top right corner, you can see a giant sprite of Ness.
This guy is Jay Pavlina the creator of Super Mario Crossover.
You WILL give him your respect.
