The Photographer one is just genius, if I do say so myself. The cardboard one is pretty amusing too.

I like the art style in this one. It reminds me of series like Shin-chan or Dr. Slump (Paula even does imitates Arale in one panel).

I think the Fuzzy Pickle Sandwich was pretty funny. If i remember correctly from Mato’s M2vsEB series, the photographer said in the Japanese version “Cheese Sandwich”, so i guess that’s where that joke came from. Still, pretty funny, though.

By the way guys, did anyone see the news on Smash Bros? There’s a leaked document saying it will be called Universe.

A major problem with this rumor is they said they’d add no more earthbound material. We need Smash Bros. in order to gain Earthbound fans and keep the series remembered!

@DJ 2Sang Well, i’m fine with them not adding anything. There’s not much more to add. Maybe Jeff or Duster. I say, as long as they keep Lucas and Ness and preferably at least one EB-related stage, that’s fine. Its not like a MOTHER 4 has been released since Brawl that has a bunch of new things characters and stages who would be just perfect for Smash. Though, I kinda hope Palette swaps will be a little bit more like Wario in Brawl, and actually change there physical appearance to match another character. That way we could get Claus as a alternate Lucas and Ninten as an alternate Ness.

Haha, I like the Escargot Express one! I mean, I’ve always kind of wondered how they go about getting to these dangerous places so easily when you have to struggle to get there sometimes.

@DJ 2Sang: It’s a hoax. Masahiro Sakurai is working on Kid Icarus: Uprising and hasn’t even started the game yet; the only reason the announcement was made was to help recruit people towards its eventual development.

Haha awesome! I’m pretty sure every time I think of the cameraman, I’ll just remember all these jokes about him.

Well they could make Ninten a character and add some more assist trophies like Poo, Boney, Paula, Eve, or Kumatora.

Also, maybe make Pokey a character too..? After all, he’s the only main character to have a major role in more than 1 mother game.

Hopefully these two haven’t got upload issues right now. Either way, there they are. Still got work to do but I’ve been rather sickly this week. Will do my best to get more up, but they won’t be coming at speed anytime soon.

Yeesh. I’m not entirely sure if these are SLIGHTLY better than the last batch, or even worse. (and those were pretty bad).

I’m leaning towards worse.

Is there any joke that these make besides, being awkward or tasteless. Because as it is, these fail to even coerce a chuckle out of me.

P.S: They somewhat remind me of some of the worst comics of early 70’s Mad Magazine. Or Parody Press’s “comic books”. The type that seem to rely on awkwardness and poor taste, rather than having an actual joke to set up, or a clever bit of humor to establish.

It’s all just weird faces and severely out-of-context immaturity.

You’re actually leaning towards any or all of these being worse than “Dearest Aunt”? Aren’t you overreacting juuust a little, or only saying that in order to remain totally negative?

These aren’t bad by any means – I have no idea how anyone would be upset – and I do like the art style. This sort of humour is just sort of weak.

For “Humble Paula”, am I missing something? The last panel doesn’t make sense to me. Did they use the English words for nose/rose or did it work in Japanese too?

Oh, and just for the record, Smash Bros is by HAL. HAL also made EarthBound. They also made the Kirby and the SNES version of SimCity, which are other things that have featured in Brawl multiple times in some form. I wouldn’t be surprised if they included more Mother stuff in the new one. Probably some Face Raiders too.

Anonymous, the original comic makes a pun on the word “hana,” which means “flower,” but also “nose.” In her last comment, as far as I can tell, she really is just claiming to enjoy reading quietly. If there is any wordplay there, I couldn’t find it. I would say the joke here is his overactive imagination. By the time that point has been reached, he’s already completely lost.

Maybe not the best strip, but I really liked this set overall. I don’t really see how most of these could be considered “tasteless.”

Yeah I call shenanigans on haters here. There is far less lewd humour in these, and the jokes are on par with standard shonen-jump humour. If you happen to not like shonen-jump mangas/anime, that’s fine, but then the manga, probably for the most part here in general, won’t be aimed at you.

There are lighter, fluffier mangas out there, but not a lot of the official manga has that. I do have a couple in my collection, mostly stuff already scanned, but again it doesn’t make up as much of the collection as the official mangas, which allow for a little more freedom in their jokes than I find western cartoons often do. Besides, the lighter stuff, while adorable to look at, doesn’t interest me.

But hey if you really want to complain about taste, how about I get one of the blue-Giegue mangas in the eBay selling list? 😉 Take your pick, the sellers are only finding worse.

Gag mangas are a very hit-and-miss thing for me, and for the most part this was a miss. Out of this collection, I’d say my favorite chapter was “Buzz Buzz Strikes Back” for its silliness/cuteness factor (then again, maybe I’m shamelessly self-promoting since it took so long to polish the SFX editing to what it looks like in the final product). Meanwhile, “Kids’ Stuff” probably had the most to offer in terms of actual humor.

I kind of prefer the Enix 4-panels to these; if I had more spare time, I would work on that.

Also, I’ve gotta applaud EBrent’s attempt at localizing impenetrable Japanese wordplay. Just sayin’.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at these. But that might be cuz I just discovered Mother 2 a month ago and I’m still hooked enough that anything Mother related makes me giggle with glee. xD
