A few months back, at the Giant Mr. Saturn event in Japan, we learned that Banpresto would be releasing an entire line of MOTHER and MOTHER 2 figures later in the year.
Well, it’s later in the year, and at last they’ve been officially announced! Banpresto has a new page that outlines all of the figure sets that will be released one by one over the course of probably a year or so.

The first two sets have been revealed:

Ninten, Ana, and Teddy

Ninten, Lloyd, and Pippi
The figures are 12 centimeters high (about 4.7 inches) and, like most MOTHER merchandise these days, have to be won in an arcade machine. These two particular sets are set to be released in late August.
The schedule on the site lists the full release schedule as the following:
- MOTHER Figure Collection 1 (Ninten, Ana, Teddy) – Late August 2010
- MOTHER Figure Collection 2 (Ninten, Lloyd, Pippi) – Late August 2010
- MOTHER 2 Figure Collection 1 (Ness, Paula, Poo) – Late December 2010
- MOTHER 2 Figure Colleciton 2 (Ness, Jeff, Pokey) – Late January 2011
- MOTHER 2 Figure Collection 3 (Three different Starman types) – Late February 2011
- MOTHER 2 Mini Figure Collection 1 (Ness, King, Mom, Tracy) – Late September 2010
- MOTHER 2 Mini Figure Collection 2 (Ness, Jeff, Dr. Andonuts, Mr. Saturn) – Late October 2010
- MOTHER 2 Mini Figure Collection 3 (Ness, Poo, Pokey, Picky, Bubble Monkey) – Late November 2010
- MOTHER 2 Mini Figure Collection 4 (Ness, Paula, Runaway Five members, Venus) – Late December 2010
- MOTHER 2 Mini Figure Collection 5 (Mr. Saturn, Captured Mr. Saturn, Dr. Saturn, Master Belch) – Late February 2011
- Mr. Saturn PVC Figure – Late September 2010
- Dr. Saturn plushes – Late October 2010
Incidentally, the mini figures are 8 centimeters tall.
Only pictures of the first two MOTHER sets have been shown, but they do look exactly like the official clay models. Very cool. I can’t wait to see how all the others turn out, but holy Giygas you’ll need a giant wallet to collect all of these if you don’t live in Japan 😯
I’ll post more info and pics as I get them!

I’m definitely going to import one of those. Probably the Ness/Jeff/Porky set.

I really can’t see a future where I wouldn’t want at least some of these on my desk.
Sigh… I assume ebay would be the most likely place for an American to find these once they come out?
Um.. Did Pippi get possessed by ghosts in the graveyard or did I miss that part in the story? She looks nothing like the other styles.
The Pippi figure looks to be based off of one of the unused enemy sprites in Mother 1.

I would be happy if they made a Giegue figure.
That would be awesome. 😀
Cool stuff. Probably if I pick any up I’d hold out for either Venus or the Starmen. Looking good though!
@greiv there was no original mother 3 clay models when it was relesed so they’ll be non
and pippis clay model is freaky as hell o_o

I would like to at least have the chosen four from EarthBound, but I’m guessing it will be difficult/expensive to get one’s hands on these outside of Japan.
I’m gonna have a hard time figuring out which sets to get! I hope they won’t be too expensive when they hit eBay.

Does anyone know if these will be available for importing? It says they “has[sic] to be won in an arcade machine”, but can we still purchase them anyway?
Those a pretty cool. I definitely want Pokey and Master Belch. Maybe a Ninten too. I’d like to see a Ness figure based on the American clay model of Ness too.
Its also nice to see a good image of Pippi’s clay model…well, at least a figure based on it so people can finally see that that unused enemy from Earth Bound was in fact Pippi.

O__o…… And just when I thought there couldn’t be enough merchandise, Dammmnn! Oh well, at least I know I’m not getting the Pippi figure *shudders*
I have a Ness figure, Starman figure, Jeff, you want it? Its all yours my friend as long as you have enough dollars. (no i dont own these)
HHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGHHHHHHHHHH
These all look really nice!
except Pippi i mean look at her damn
But over all, these are really cool! These things will probably be all over E-Bay.
AH MAH GAWD MUST GET!! Unfortunately I can’t, but I can dream. And yeah, I agree with everyone else, Pippi looks really weird.

Hey, awesome! I’d love to have these, but probably never will..Sigh….
….Is ‘Dr. Saturn plush’ a typo, or is that really the product description? What…would THAT be? .__o
Well, I left Japan at a pretty awkward time, and by the time I go back, I highly doubt these will still be available in the UFO Catchers. Hmm, what other method besides eBay…as we all know the price will be double to triple from what they’re worth on Yahoo Auctions Japan.

ShirowWolf: It’s not a typo, it’s at the very bottom right of the site: http://www.banpresto.co.jp/mother/

Yay! A Loid figurine! Do want!
Wait, it comes with Pippi…
DO NOT WANT!
@blahblah
You’ll give me credit, or else you will DIE!
Awesome! I must have all the Mother 2 figurines… not that I’ll actually have the money for them, but I can dream…
assuming each figure collection will will have an average price of 10-30$ on yahoo jp auctions, added to additional service and shipping fees of about 20-30$, so maybe 50$ per set….are we looking about 500$ for the entire collections?
…and that’s not including the saturn pvc and plush. 😡
No earthly language is sufficient to allow me to express exactly how much I need these. Well, maybe except Pippi. Seriously Banpresto, what were you thinking?
Anyway. These contain inordinate amounts of DO WANT, but actually procuring them will presumably be something of a nightmare.

Can anyone direct me to a site with preorders?
I doubt these are orders. I think these’ll be crane game things.
![]() | Chrissii (too lazy to login) said on Jul. 18, 2010 |
CRUD. Why is all the Mother merch always in UFO catchers? Looks like I’m making an account at one of those auction deputy sites for Yahoo Japan since I literally NEED to own all of these. 🙁
Wow. Pippi’s in-game sprite looks much more aesthetically pleasing than her model. Never thought that would happen.
These look awesome. My only complaint is why two sets with the exact same Ninten? Weren’t there any other characters they could have included? Queen Mary maybe? And if they had to go with Ninten twice, couldn’t they have given him a different pose for the second one, like hands extended for PSI or clutching a baseball bat? Anything? But, yeah, wish I could get these.
I think Ninen and Ness are getting released twice to make them easier to obtain. I’m sure they’ll be pretty popular.
Oop, forgot to mention:
Why the two starmen with the starman deluxe?
![]() | Commander said on Jul. 18, 2010 |
WAAAAH! Home Come Japan gets the good stuff? ;AAA; DO they know how lucky they are? Why doesn’t America love the Mother Series!? Sigh, now I need a credit card.
![]() | resetsurvivor said on Jul. 18, 2010 |
Me jsut pooped.
I wonder how much they will cost… and by that i mean the actual price and not stupid ebay skyrockets
Can’t wait see see how much they’ll be on ebay.
Some sellers can order (in bulk!) directly from Banpresto, I wonder if these could be ordered that way too.
@Lance
Probably because he’s the main/most popular character. If you look at other various toylines, it’s pretty common for the main character to be rereleased across several sets.
And again it’s going to cost hundred of dollars to us poor people outside of Japan.
So awesome though.
![]() | neonix said on Jul. 18, 2010 |
@Pigmask, I think one of those Starmen is a Starman Jr.
@Neo,
That makes nonsense, what’s the difference? Sure, the one in MOTHER is pink, but that’d be released in the MOTHER section.
P-Pippi scares me
Excuse me while I go hide in my closet in a fetal position. D:
Well looks like we’ll have to try ebay, since most of us don’t live in japan.
![]() | LucasTizma said on Jul. 19, 2010 |
Well, I would say “MOTHER 1 gets screwed again”, but I’ll take what I can get. It’s just not nearly as loved as the other two, sadly.
Also, what’s with Ninten’s clothes? Why is his shirt cut at that angle?
![]() | Poe said on Jul. 19, 2010 |
Ninten’s shirt looks that in the clay model: http://starmen.net/mother1/images/clay/ninten.png
I always figured he left part of his shirt untucked.
Yay, a collectible i wish i would get my hands on when it get’s released, this could go great with a lego or clay podunk model….
Just kidding.
I’ll try to get some when it comes out in ebay for sale!
@Clawclaw
Yeah, I get that the main character might be released more than once, but, as I said, in most figure collections where the main character is released multiple times, they actually do something with it. Put him in a different pose, a different costume, something.
![]() | Leirin said on Jul. 19, 2010 |
This is like a dream come true!! I hope some of them pop up on eBay after they’re out, I’d kill for just one!
Also, what’s with the complaints about Pippi’s model? I think it’s actually really cute and fitting for her personality. Though I think it’d look better if her hair took up more space than her face.
Hee. I like how one of Pippi’s socks is pulled up while the other isn’t. 🙂
Well I think we can all guess that the unused little girl sprite from Mother probably was supposed to Pippi.
![]() | LucasTizma said on Jul. 19, 2010 |
Whee. Excited about the progressive releases! At least two sets to store away and one set to put on my desk! 😀
I think it’s cool for the Japanese, since they’ll have this kind of special fun experience to get them, but it would be nice if there were some Mother knickknacks that were easy to buy online and weren’t really expensive… 🙁
Like a redheaded stepchild…yuk,yuk,yuk.
My guess would be to defeat the poltergeist that was in the lamp and baby doll (presumably possessing Pippi as well)
Maybe she was possessed…. I just don’t think they would make her crazy looking just for fun. I know I want Venus on my desk and a Dr. Saturn somewhere…
I’m somewhat terrified of Pippi now. I probably won’t get these, but they look pretty cool.
I know I must get Lloyd, Ninten, Ness, Jeff, Dr. Saturn, and the starmen.
See, this is why I never really took a liking to the clay models. Lloyd and Anna are the only ones that look OK. The others bother me. I can understand if they wanted Ninten’s shirt to look half untucked, but the angle is too weird and high. Teddy’s hair is bizarre and just looks ugly.
Pippi, however, is an entirely different matter. What the heck. Even if they changed her eyes to what Ninten’s or Anna’s looked like, it look ten times better. I’d even forgive the creepy pose and awkward clothing if the eyes were changed.
All that being said, I still want these two sets above all the other ones. 😛

It’s really weird how all these other sites are mistakenly reporting that these figures will be for sale in Japan. They’re not, they’ll only be available in the crane game machines in select arcades.
![]() | Poe said on Jul. 20, 2010 |
It’s ironic that another site posted the wrong information right after you made that observation, Mato. Maybe you should emphasize the correct information in big text at the top of the article so that hopefully other game sites will get their facts straight.
![]() | neonix said on Jul. 20, 2010 |
^No, don’t do it! The less people who know how to properly obtain these, the better my chances are of getting a whole set for less than my paycheck! 😛
OOOOOOH! I want! I need! Dear me! All of these promo materials though… do you think they mean something? Or is it just a nostalgia cash in? I HOPE THAT THEY MEAN SOMETHING!
It’s funny, I want all of the second figure sets the most. (Dr. Andonuts = <3) Barring Pippi, of course.
Seriously Pippi. You've put on some pounds. No wonder Ninten dumped you for Ana.
Dr. satrn fix you all up! Boing! He is the ultimate mother character.
I REALLY want Mr. Saturn, Captured Mr. Saturn, Dr. Saturn, Master Belch set!
The pippi model looks like the one from the mother encyclopedia, Why hasn’t anyone else made that connection?
![]() | Axl-fox said on Jul. 22, 2010 |
@ Mrakken: Im pretty sure those figures were made just for nostalgia’s sake.
HOLYSHIT!!!!that pippi figure was an unused enemy sprite in mother 1!!!! 83 comments are alot to read but i think i am the only one who noticed. in that lost levels website article on mother 1 is a page on unused stuff and in that page is a picture of pippi and a pillow as enemy sprites!
i didint know if it would remove this post for spam but here is the link
http://www.lostlevels.org/200407/earth-04.shtml
damn Skull1984 beat me to it but atleast i put in the link…..
sorry for triple posting 🙁

Never played any Earthbound game but I must say I love the games and want the figurines so badly.
Hopefully someone in japan is smart enough to realise they could buy a shitload of these things and instead of putting them in machines they would double the price it would cost to get one out of the machine and sell them in sets on ebay to americans. Then we could get sets at a reasonable price and they get double the money.
It would be better if they gave Pippi that Pippi Longstockings look along with the pac-man eyes.
THEN she’d look decent!
I want Ninten sooooo bad!! He looks very cute!!
…Pippi? I-is that you?…
Ninten and Ana look super cute!!! I’d get them and maybe the Ness/Jeff/Pokey pack too. ^_^
The Pippi figurine scares me…
![]() | iwata kicks you know what said on Jan. 3, 2011 |
“Holy Giygas…” LOL!
Couldn’t you just fly to Japan? Would you still save money, or would you might as well buy in the USA/
![]() | iwata kicks you know what said on Jan. 3, 2011 |
I mean *****USA?
I REALLY WANT THE STARMEN COLLECTION!!!!!!!! I also want master belch and Ness mini-figure!!
Damn!! >.< this is sooo hard 2 get! and pippi looks really freaky, i guess banpresto wanted 2 pair up ninten and ana ,so they made pippi look like this so everyone else could agree =(
I like to spell Ana with two Ns as in “Anna”. Does this make me wrong?
![]() | Poe said on Jul. 28, 2011 |
@A-wel Cruiz – Nah, it doesn’t matter that much.
Currently, Yahoo Japan is a treasure trove of these figures, along with the Mr Saturn plushes!
Pippi’s face will give me nightmares.
