Tips for Buying EarthBound

June 1st, 2010 | Audio Stuff, MOTHER 3

Miles sent this in recently:

I saw Ms. Marshmallow fan art on Deviantart, and encountered Porky and Ms. Marshmallow pairings. For some reason, Ms. Marshmallow’s dress reminded of Lady Gaga. This “music” is a product of absolute silliness. It’s MOTHER +LOVE 2 mixed with Love Game by Lady Gaga… parts appeared to fit well when sung in my head! Enjoy.

I can’t post this and NOT post this: PK Mash! It’s by good ol’ Sephy and has a lot more EB music mashups. It’s cool stuff. So check it out too!

Urf, as much as I can’t stand her, I think it could really attract some Gaga fans to like mother…….. is that a good thing?…………

Air on a G string said on Jun. 1, 2010

This turned me on to Lady Gaga. Also, Pokey.

My guilty pleasures in music:

1. Mashups
2. Video game music
3. Lady Gaga

So yeah, this is more or less my ultimate guilty pleasure. Related: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zijsxbqYXPU

So, this is like the first time I’ve heard Lady Gaga. I don’t see what all the fuss is about. She sounds like generic euro-techno from ten years ago(with the cliched “response” verse from a member of the opposite sex, haha.). The MOTHER3 music blends in rather well, though.

Big A2 said on Jun. 2, 2010

You can’t pay me to make it through any Lady Gaga song, including this mash-up. Sorry.

Now, a Mother and Velvet Underground mash-up would be something special.

Kendall! said on Jun. 2, 2010

My one refuge from Lady Gaga…

Anonymoooos said on Jun. 2, 2010

I also don’t see what the fuss is about. If I want to here that music-genre, I’ll listen to Roisin Murphy who practically invented the style. Goldfrap and Gaga are the unknowing copycats. Roisin Murphy was first, then came Goldfrap and then came Gaga.

Just sayin' is all ;O said on Jun. 2, 2010

Man, the fuss is because Gaga hails from the US. It isn’t every day we get someone that tries to go the techno pop direction. The US isn’t like Europe in the fact that techno isn’t a big thing over here anymore. Either way, people have different tastes and that is in general why people enjoy her music. Also, it is not a bad thing to be a “copycat” as you call it. I mean come on, that is what the music business is all about. Notice someone enjoys this kind of music, do it to make money. It isn’t like every other person in the music business has their own style of music, man 🙂

SCREW YOU GUYS, I LIKE GAGA SO THERE.

VickyBit said on Jun. 2, 2010

Wow, uh, those PK Mash ones are.. pretty terrible, to be honest :T Only a few parts of the tracks sound good imo. :V How disappointing.

PK LOVEGAME!!

Elliotcroft said on Jun. 2, 2010

I actually called my PSI power in earthbound PSI Gaga.

Kalasad said on Jun. 2, 2010

Ehh… I like Lady Gaga but not this particular song of hers. Plus she sounds much better live. But this mashup is pretty good. 🙂

Tim Stoddard said on Jun. 2, 2010

What is the Earthbound song mixed with Gaga? I can’t find anything close.

Ice Sage said on Jun. 2, 2010

Its “Piggy Guys” from MOTHER 3. Specifically, a remix of the song from the fan-made MOTHER+LOVE 2 album, which is impossible to find. Someone should find a way to upload the songs from those 2 albums, because they sound really good 🙁 .

Omnomnominous said on Jun. 2, 2010

I have Mother+Love 2, it is pretty awesome. The remixed song’s called ‘Pigbeat’, by the way.

When I herd this I said “oh my god, ahhhggggg!” but in my heart I know I loved it 🙂

OKeijiDragon said on Jun. 2, 2010

Can I share some of my EarthBound mashes too?

http://forum.starmen.net/forum/Fan/Forum/The-Fresh-Prince-of-Nowhere

I’m surprised I didn’t get front page on Central cause of this. =P

Matt said on Jun. 2, 2010

Yeah, the Fresh Prince mash-ups on YouTube are pretty neat if not goofy, and there are a couple EB/Mother ones, too. I’m surprised they weren’t mentioned here. o__o

santiagoff said on Jun. 2, 2010

Y’know, this is quite a coincidence. I had always thought this two songs sounded similar, and now somebody mixed them for me! I love Gaga AND Mother 3, so this is pure orgasmic love! <3

Antiprattler said on Jun. 2, 2010

Only Porky can mitigate the awfulness of Lady Gaga. Haha

Tetra said on Jun. 2, 2010

I don’t see why nearly everyone here hates Lady Gaga…

Anyway, I like that Mashup :3 However, some of the other ones are pretty bad…but then again some of them are good! I think the ends of each of those mashups are kinda weird. It cuts off, or just ends up sounding strange.
Yeah, that’s my opinion.

G14 said on Jun. 2, 2010

Epic win.

Someone do Mother and ACDC or Aerosmith.

neonix said on Jun. 2, 2010

This is great. I love me some Gaga, and Pigbeat is my favorite track from MOTHER +Love2. Mmm, mashy goodness. :3

sigh said on Jun. 3, 2010

I can’t see why anyone likes Gaga.

Sorry but nothing could actually make me listen to this crap again. Not even Earthbound.

Earthbound is wonderful. But I wouldn’t swallow a turd for it’s sake.

Violet said on Jun. 3, 2010

I don’t know if this is really representative of Gaga, but she seems like essentially a poor man’s Britney. Which makes that man a very, very poor man…

And to the person who mentioned Goldfrapp in the same sentence as Gaga… no. Just no.

Green said on Jun. 3, 2010

It makes me sad to see one of my favorite sites’ fans bash my favorite artist. 🙁 Personally, both Earthbound and Lady GaGa are inspirational to me in their own representation.

Watt said on Jun. 3, 2010

The only part that belongs to Lady GaGa are the lyrics and the lyrics only, and yet, people say that this is the first time they’ve heard her music, and continue to bash it. lolwut

Violet said on Jun. 3, 2010

Just the lyrics? Or the voice too? Because they’re both pretty awful.

Hypotenuse Man said on Jun. 3, 2010

Having never heard any Lady Gaga before, I have to say that “I wanna take a ride on your disco stick” is one of the least subtle lines I’ve ever heard.

It doesn’t help that this file is called “Pork Stick.”

Anonymoooos said on Jun. 3, 2010

I mostly steer clear when it comes to ‘eMpTyV’ music. It’s not like she is different in any way from many generic stereotype music ‘stars’. She, to me, comes across as a modern day Madonna, singing about sex, dressing like she sells her body for kicks among things. That would only be great if porn was part of every child’s daily life…but then again, it might just not have been a joke in Earthbound if that wouldn’t be true….

Tetra said on Jun. 3, 2010

If it is your first time hearing Lady Gaga, you shouldn’t judge her on just this song. She has much better ones. And Lady Gaga isn’t my favorite artist either, but she’s honestly not terrible. I think she is a wonderful singer and I agree with Green. It’s disapointing that people on my favorite site are bashing a good artist. I didn’t say she was the best, but I still like her. This is a site to appreciate Earthbound, not to hate on Lady Gaga. And I don’t care if you voice your opinion, but there is a difference between doing that and bashing on someone. 🙂

Frenzy said on Jun. 3, 2010

Yeah, this mash-up is pretty radical. I didn’t even know Lady Gaga was something I’d like until I hear this. I’m not at all surprised to see everyone hating it though. It’s kind of sad, most hardcore gamers are just as prejudiced about music as people who ONLY listen to rap. “I ONLY LISHEN TO CLASSIC ROCK, METAL, AND VISHEOGAME/ANIME MUSHIC. EVERYTHING ELSE ISH A TURD.” While I love me some rock and videogame music, I hate just seeing ignorance. It’s okay not to like something, but to declare something terrible just because it’s not your preference of music is just plain stupid. I can’t understand for the life of me people who have to STOP and COMPLAIN like it matters to anyone but themsel- *gets shot by the hypocrisy sniper, murdering all hypocrites this side of the Mississippi*

Staarf said on Jun. 3, 2010

Well said, Frenzy. I actually like some of Lady Gaga’s songs. It’s good dance music; not every song has to have some deep, profound meaning nestled into its lyrics. It can be mindless jibber-jabber about sex and drugs for all I care, and I’ll still dance to it at a party.

However, I don’t think she should be taken seriously as a musician quite yet. The genre she sings in doesn’t allow it. Shame too, she has a gorgeous voice.

Seifer said on Jun. 3, 2010

What an abomination

CloudMallo said on Jun. 3, 2010

Personally, I think this mash-up was well made. Mostly all parts fit together well. I don’t like her, but I don’t hate Lady Gaga with a burning passion, and I enjoy Mother 3 music a lot. Kudos to whoever did this. Let’s cut down on the Lady Gaga bashing, shall we?

Skulryk said on Jun. 3, 2010

I’m probably biased because I freaking love mashups but this is pretty awesome. Pretty well done, too. Don’t know the individual songs too well, though.

Kirby Phelps (PK) said on Jun. 3, 2010

I’ve never listened to a Lady Gaga song before until now. Sounds pretty good. So does this mean I like Lady Gaga, is it just that Mother music makes everything sound good? I don’t know how much of the song was edited so…

SHYKOOPA said on Jun. 4, 2010

Ugh… I so hate Lady Gaga… and it mashed very poorly…

Meh

Johnwalt said on Jun. 4, 2010

This sounds really good! 😀

PriestessPaula said on Jun. 5, 2010

I’m not sure how much I like Lady Gaga, other than I love this mashup, and Pokerface, but…Yeah. This is awesome.

slovaksiren said on Jun. 6, 2010

Wow, that’s kind of catchy… as much as I do not like the original…

Anonymous said on Jun. 26, 2010

@Strawberry Tofu: Funny, I first got into Lady Gaga on a long flight last month (they had the entirety of The Fame Monster on the plane’s entertainment system) and realized one thing I liked about many of the songs was the bitty portions. It’s why I put “Porky’s Porkies” on my iPod and turn it up way loud whenever it comes on. That song always makes me outrageously happy, no matter how bad of a mood I’m in.

Some Rope Snake said on Jul. 11, 2010

Holy, I should have heard that earlier XD

wamyc said on Aug. 8, 2010

Wow. A lot of vitriol here. If you don’t like it (AND feel you must comment) why not say “Gaga’s not my style of music but cool to see people getting enjoyment and creativity out of mother’s awesome music.” It’s not really necessary to express so much otaku-rage and elitism.

It’s an okay and interesting mix, but not the best. Good synching but both tracks were better in the original.

Ampersand said on Nov. 11, 2010

I don’t particularly like this song, or the others (Which is so far only 3, counting this one) that I’ve heard from Lady Gaga… But I’m really kind of sickened by just how virulent the hatred for her gets…

The Earthbounder said on Jul. 10, 2011

MOTHER 3 HAS THE BEST MUSIC OUT OF ALL OF THE MOTHER GAMES!

Zoom! said on Nov. 16, 2011

No EarthBound Zero does. >:(

Mikeja78 said on Apr. 28, 2012

I think I might agree with The Earthbounder.

BB Gang Zombie said on Apr. 28, 2012

Now now this comment section isn’t exactly the place to argue…

But, EBZero totally has the better music, so there. >:|

I will say, Mother 3 was hindered greatly by its primitive sound chip– if it were on a system with more powerful sound, I would likely be able to enjoy it much more. But, unless that happens, I’m sticking with EBZero.

Ness1985 said on Apr. 28, 2012

MOTHER 3 has more & better music out of the MOTHER series, that’s just a fact. However, you can like the others more if you want.

Snowman said on Apr. 29, 2012

Music is entirely subjective, it’s not a “fact” that Mother 3 has the best music nor is any music “better” than any other music. These arguments are pointless and it’s impossible to convince anyone that your tastes are better. You can argue that M3 has the most songs, but that’s about it.

BB Gang Zombie said on Apr. 29, 2012

^ I just thought the conversation was silly. xD

I DO however prefer EBZero’s music, but I think it would be interesting to see if taken to a vote…
