Here I present you one of my latest hacks, “Against Giygas V2” a stage I made in the past, but that I now revamped by removing the platform, making the custom “song” for it, and fixing some textures. I’ve been hacking this game since two years ago, and I hope you’ll enjoy this stage as much as I do.
I gotta say, that’s one of the best recreations of the true freaky weirdness of Giygas that I’ve seen anyone make. My many hats go of to you!

Wow… just wow…
The only thing more amazing is some of those character hacks he has going there too! Man I need to get back into the Brawl Hacking scene.

I could do without the “song”.

wow! amazing! they should make it so random attacks happen to you that have random effects (such as electrocution and freezing) and make it so nothing visible hitting you, it just randomly happens. so you can’t grasp it 😛
anyway my favorite part is from 1:32 to about 1:50 in the video time (it repeats again later but I am just listing the first time it does it)
awesome hack. I’m shocked somebody was able to make a hack to this caliber
jesus christ that is horrifying
I am pleased with a playable Little Mac, though. It looks like he’s using Fox’ Moveset?

First of all, thanks for posting this on your site! I feel honored, as this is the second time a stage I made (First being Winters) has been posted here.
To those who are wondering about the song, I kind of wanted it to look like how it would have been in Earthbound, when Giygas starts to freak out. Some have mentioned that it looks like Giygas is crying like a baby, plus the fact that there is this “hidden” fetus/baby image in the background, so that is why I added babies crying, with different pitches. I personally liked that addition. If you take time to concentrate, you can actually hear Giygas saying “Ness, ness, ness” in a normal way, then in a freaky monster way later on.
@Andy
I had thought about this with someone, maybe it will be done.
@SmaMan
Thank you. These characters are pretty basic, to be honest. I could help you if you need, too. Little Mac was ported over Sheik, that Toon Link is a simple texture with Majora’s Mask (Added by myself), Mewtwo on Lucario was made by me (Took me a few days, it almost has 2000 downloads!), and that Wolf is a simple texture as well.
@Kyoo
Thanks a lot, but that sadly is not possible, unless I port this stage to a stage that has such effects (They are located in the module files).
@Violet
Nothing was wrong, but I wanted this to look like the “final battle” with Giygas, after the original four young heroes failed. If you pay attention, you can see Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo, absorbed by the darkness.
@WhatsHerFace
It’s actually Sheik, you can notice how he’s animated, and how he uses the whip, needles, etc. At the end of the match, if you watched it fully (Which doesn’t seem to be the case), you see the announcer saying “The winner is..Sheik!”.

I was absolutely surprised by this stage, I mean I’ve seen the one with the platform but it’s even moreso awesome than it was. The parts I enjoyed the most with this (excluding the obviously horrific background music because it’s good) was when the screaming face was at the far back and then the torrent of (what looks like) the unstable Giygas swirling around them.
It must have taken a while to make this all happen, what was the most difficult part of creating the Giygas animation?
![]() | Murcielo said on Jun. 25, 2010 |
Eh, I forgot to mention that the other favorite part was the ending when it called game and the animation came screeching to a halt. It just looked so much more defined when that happens.
Sorry for the double-post.

That was awesome, and the “song” was the best part. It really captured the Giygas experience. I’ll never picture the fight the same ever again.

Am I… dying… ? O _ O
I actually don’t mind the song. I would imagine that’s what Giygas would sound like without the SNES synth anyways.
![]() | BigSharkZ said on Jun. 25, 2010 |
@Murcielo
Thanks, and I do not think there was anything difficult to do in this stage, really.
@Chasmang
Hehe, thanks.
@Resetsurvivor
Lol, exactly.
Also, if you guys thought this was crazy / scary, just wait for my next Earthbound-related stage. I’m working on it as we speak. 😛
Yes, it’s Giygas-related as well.
Yeah, the music does match the psycho-craziness of the Giygas battle. I think you should throw in “Pokey Means Business” as an alternate track. And if you know how to do all that fun stuff with .brstm’s you can make it loop in the right spot and everything! Just a thought…
I think you should do a Masked man battle stage next, that would be cool! 😀
That was really good, I was so caught up in the stage that it took me till half way to realize, Mew 2 and Mac arent players…
That’s really cool except for the music. The music is very grating on the eardrums. Might’ve been better to do “Pokey Means Business” or whatever that track is called.
Oh man! Now I know what to do to scare the crap out of my freinds with!
I must say that scared the crap outta me. This is awesome. (If only this were for real.) “Ness,Ness,Ness,…Ness”
![]() | Kyoo said on Jun. 26, 2010 |
@PK Saturn, I feel Pokey means business. would damage it. because first of all. THAT’S NOT GIYGAS’S MUSIC! and I get infuriated when I see fan videos showing giygas, but playing Pokey means business.
plus, it would be so un-original it would feel like a crappy fan made thing lacking quality. the music he put on there added quality instead of subtracting it.
Pokey means business is something a questionable fan such as PK Saturn would put on it (and I call you a questionable fan because you didn’t know the song from the baceball chant in previous post, “EarthBound and Baseball, Again”
I feel even the light earthbound fans would have known that one. plus, pokey means business would show a lack of imagination, as that’s what everyone else would have probably done.
then again… I’m cranky because I want tobacco, sorry if I sound like a dick 😛
Actually Kyoo, Pokey Means Business IS Giygas music because it is played in the first part of the Giygas battle. I decided to re-watch the Baseball chant, and realized that the only reason I didn’t notice the eight melodies was because I didn’t pay attention to the trumpets and other brass. The chanting sounds nothing like eight melodies to me, and I have watched the video 10 or so times now. The brass, however, plays 8 melodies note for note. And while you are entitled to your opinion and I have no idea about how hard SSBB music hacking is, the music from this video seems like a combination of Darth Vader-esque breathing and some random mumbling (but its sort of hard to make the music out because of all the sounds that the fighting people are making). I’d imagine that while Pokey MB would not be quite as original, it would take a lot more time and effort to program into the game.
@PK Saturn:
Um, you DO realize who your opponent was in that first part of the battle, and why the song is called Pokey Means Business, right? Just throwing that out there. It’s not Giygas’s music.
Other than that, well done on the stage hack!
The song’s official name isn’t “Pokey Means Business” (it doesn’t have one) so you can’t use that as an argument.
This hack is really amazing. I have to say that the music is what makes it.
![]() | Kyoo said on Jun. 26, 2010 |
wow, you proved to me you really don’t know your earthbound, that music plays when you fight pokey and the Devil’s Machine, sure when you attack it says Giygas, but that’s only because Giygas is inside the Devil’s Machine.
the battle with Giygas doesn’t start till Pokey turns off the Devil’s Machine
and even if you didn’t hear the horns. the lyrical content is enough to know it’s 8 melodies. everything about it is 8 melodies, I’m going deaf because of an ear infection and I can barely hear anything. I didn’t even know there were horns in that video (couldn’t hear any). and the second I pressed play I knew it was 8 melodies.
PK Saturn…. are you a mother fan Poser?

Kyoo, you’re getting awfully aggressive over such a small thing. You might want to take a break from the internet for a while.

yeah I was thinking the same thing. SORRY PEOPLE!
OMG Wolf looks so AWESOME!!!!!!!
I LOVE WOLF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*fangirl screech*
@Sir Ilpalazzo
Wait, I’m confused. I go to Starmen.net, and looking at the EarthBound audio files, I see that the name of that song is indeed called “Pokey Means Business!” Very pointless discussion, if I may say, but you can’t deny that people do refer the song by that name. What is the “official name” anyway? @_@
![]() | Mato said on Jun. 27, 2010 |
I covered the topic a while back, here’s a link:
http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/03/pokey-means-business/
Basically, it’s a fan-made title that people mistakenly think is official.
If nintendo saw this, theyd be like, “See? I told you we should have put Gygas in Brawl!” And then another guy says, “It might scare the children…oh wait….I forgot that I was the one who rated it to be a teens game.”
I know that Pokey MB is not an official title, but it is the only one I have ever heard of for that song.
And at the very beginning of the Pokey battle, it says “GIYGAS AND HIS COHORT ATTACKED!.” Whether or not this Giygas inside the devil machine or not, it is indeed Giygas. Pretty much every video of this on Youtube refers to it as the first part of the Giygas battle, so are they “fan posers” too? I don’t think so.
And I can’t understand Japanese, so the lyrical content (i.e. the words) mean nothing to me from the baseball chant. If you are able to make out eight melodies from the singing, then congratulations, but I can’t.
@Sir Ilpalazzo
What do you mean I can’t use it as an argument? Of course I can. Just because it has no official name doesn’t mean I can’t use it’s fan name.
![]() | Poe said on Jun. 27, 2010 |
PK Saturn, let it go. It’s not important.
Actually, this song has a little-known official title, in the MOTHER 2 Original Sound Version. It is:
“Pokey, Armed and Dangerous.”
So, it is about Pokey. Case closed.
Oops, it’s actually “Cease To Exist.”
So, it’s about both Pokey and Giygas. Case closed.
But, I just realized something. That isn’t an official title either. So you can basically call it whatever you want, but it’s really about the combined forces of Giygas and Pokey.
@PK Saturn: When I said that, I was responding to Yeppers. He said the song is Porky’s theme because the song’s name is “Pokey Means Business” and I was telling him that that title can’t be used in an argument because it’s not official. That’s all.

I’m surprised after 43 comments, nobody has gone off into a ranting flame that this is Melee, not Brawl. I love the EB community for it’s utter kindness.
Anyway, this is the best video I’ve seen all week. Thank you. The background, and especially the music is really intense. It gives off a powerful and scary feeling that one would feel if they actually stood in front of Giygas.
![]() | BigSharkZ said on Jun. 28, 2010 |
@Neonix
May I know what the heck you are talking about? This is not Melee. Not at all. Look at my other videos.. Thanks, though. o_o
![]() | Miles Vialpando said on Jun. 28, 2010 |
I want the background music in MP3 format. Hahaha
![]() | BigSharkZ said on Jun. 28, 2010 |
@Miles Vialpando
It’s downloadable in the description.
I got neonix’s point. He thought it was Melee because of the GC controller.
It is Brawl indeed, but BigShark was using the GC controller, there’s this option in the game.
![]() | neonix said on Jun. 29, 2010 |
Yeah Felipe is right. Stupid me. *slaps self in the face* I had a momentary amnesia where I forgot the GC controller actually showed the GC buttons on screen. 😛

![]() | Roo said on Jun. 29, 2010 |
That has got to be one of the creepiest things I’ve ever seen in a video game – puts the final battle in a different light for sure. Giygas in post-16-bit glory is damn scary!
That was amazing. It’s hard to visualize what the entire setting would be in-game, because it was just called “his own dimension.
Also, did I hear “Ness…Ness…Ness…” at 1:11 ?
![]() | JoeShmoe said on Jun. 30, 2010 |
Lol, neonix, my old stage didn’t look THIS elaborate. XD
this just reminds me that gyigas is creepy enough make me have bad dreams. (and make pee my pants)
I read the comments hoping to find some information on where to get the audio or the hack file since it’s pretty cool.
All I got was a bunch of Mother fan-wankery :/

Holy crap…
That was so disturbing…
Reminds me of hell…
Pray to God we don’t suffer in hell…
Welp, it’s a good thing I wasn’t planning on sleeping for the next 72 hours. Very disturbing.
wow giygas needs to be a boss hack
