A good while back I posted some pics of what EarthBound carts look like on the inside. Now here’s what MOTHER 2 carts look like!

Hard to believe that something so bland and circuit-y secretly contains such awesome stuff inside!

I noticed that the circuit board of Mother 2 is different than Earthbound’s circuit board.

I love the design of the SNES carts. The square corners, the lines on the edges, everything about them had that classic Nintendo style and feel that I always liked.

Looks like a lot more chips than the EarthBound cart. Were there multiple revisions of MOTHER 2, like EarthBound(with/without debug, etc.)?
Mother2Kirby: Maybe the extra chip on the SF cart is for all those extra Japanese characters!
It only looks bland if you don’t know how it works, I think it looks like magic.

Ah, I almost bought this YAJ item when I saw the picture, thinking it was perhaps a prototype or something. 🙂
The circuit board is a few inches bigger than EB’s circuit board :O What did NoA do to the poor thing, EB looks butchered down compared to M2! 😛

Hmmm, curious. Does anyone who’s familiar with the innards of SNES/Super Famicom carts know why there’s an extra 28-pin chip in the center right part of the Mother 2 board that seems to be missing from the EarthBound one?

@violet, oh that’s why they didn’t sell in the USA now it all makes sense, they forgot the success chip. and here I was blaming the poor marketing and the large book, and price tag.
how silly of NOA to forget the success chip

They learned their lesson and made sure to include the “It Prints Money” chip once they started selling Nintendo DS’s

NoA’s marketing department just sucked a big one when they “planned” EarthBound.
@Violet, I just literally lolled at that statement. Best. Answer. Ever.
Is it just me or does the board itself vaguely resemble the ingame map of Onett?
I don’t really know any of you, or whoever writes this blog, but I hate you for calling that circuit “bland”.

^So how the hell did you end up here? O_O

I used to study electronics and chip design and all that, so I think I’m allowed to state my opinion. Plus, to be honest, all the fun isn’t even in the circuit stuff but the ROM chips. Which look bland 😛
@Crocodile Puncher, you’re kinda being a dick at Mato you know, he’s aloud to state his opinion, and all the fun doesn’t come from the circuits, but from the game itself!
Nah, I’m just playing around. I grew up with lots of this kind of stuff around so it all just looks awesome to me.
Besides, it just looks lovely.
Oh and I was just altering the truth from effect. I do know who you are.
It is intriguing how much they can fit in one of those.
