March 4th, 2010 | EarthBound, Smash Bros.
I don’t know the source for this, but it’s a really cool pic. It was made back when Nintendo was still doing daily updates hyping up Smash Bros. Brawl:

Pokey showed up in Smash Bros. Brawl, so it half came true. Having Giygas as a boss like this would’ve been extra cool too. I can’t imagine how one would actually beat Giygas in a situation like that, though. What would be the closest Brawl equivalent to praying? Taunting? I dunno.

Brawl, for pete’s sake… Just let the thing die already. Too many of these kind of things floating around thanks to that disappointment.
A Giygas stage would be undoubtedly awesome, but it would come as a bit of an unsettling shock to most of the players who would have no idea what was going on. Though, a stage like that probably would have kicked up interest in EarthBound again…

Ah, good times! Not sure what I think about a Smash Bros. level without an obvious stand-on-able surface, though.
No offense to you Taylor Southerland fans, but the way he drew Pokey was really messed up 😛 But anyways, I think that this SSBB update really mudt have gotten the fans pissed off that it wasn’t in the final release, but, if we were to obtain a prototype copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl then hmmmm…. But, I’m not even sure they make prototypes of games anymore at this time, or do they? I dunno…

Ah, SSBB. I was actually kinda disappointed in the lack of Mother 2 content in the game. They really added nothing, and even took away the Fourside stage (which I believe had the only real Mother 2 music available in Melee).
Ah well, at least they didn’t take Ness out entirely. Small victories…
I’m actually kinda glad this didn’t make it to Brawl in a way. Back when Brawl came out, the first questions I asked was “Who is Lucas??”.”He’s from the same game as Ness? What game was that again?” I didn’t even know what Earthbound was! O_O
I only found out through some research through the internet. Seriously, when I saw New Pork City and Porky in Brawl, that was random enough as it was for me, because I was like “Who? What game are we talking about again?”
Man, I would have nightmares if that were to happen to Smash Bros now, the SNES version of Giygas to me seemed, underwhelmingly not scary, it felt like fighting an awesome version of Bowser! I’m sure a 3D version of Giygas would scare everybody!
I know! Lets make a 3D Earthbound! 😀
Or, you could have an animated Giygas wall paper throughout your house. O_o
Erm, all of you know this is a fan-made mockup and wasn’t on the official Brawl site, right?

Yeah, it’s pretty obvious.
I always thought this could’ve worked out for Brawl, and that Giygas would’ve made a more epic level than Porky and his robots. Oh well, you take what you get.

COME ON! SHOW ME YA MOVES! *Giygas can’t fathom the awesomeness that radiates from captain falcon!* YOU WON!
I suppose at certain intervals it would show (a) certian character(s) praying or something, and eventually everyone else would be praying and you’d win. You’d just have to survive.
That would have made a more interesting final boss battle, to be sure. Tabuu was annoying as all get out sometimes.
Maybe Paula would make a cameo appearance to pray Giygas to death after you inflict xxx damage.

Tabuu was pretty lame. Seemed like a total ripoff — I’m like, hey, this is Subspace. Where’s Wart?
Lol, Wart would have been a disappointing final boss if you ask me. Using a unique boss specifically for SSBB was a good idea. And I’m glad Porky was the second highest up. Shows what game prevails! 😀

WHAT
I cannot believe the insolence! Lord Wart will be most displeased. All I’m saying is: if you find yourself getting blasted with bubbles, well, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
To make Giygas work in smash bros i think you would want something like…
Some target to attack moving around(pokey? some sort of core?), no stable platforms and attacks emanating from all around to keep the player on their toes and swapping out the standard taunt for a pray animation.
You would have 2 damage meters, the Target and Giygas.
The Target would acquire damage but have a regeneration period… during the regeneration (before it completes) you would have to pray so that the damage to the Target will transfer to Giygas rather than being negated.
A fun way to integrate Brawl mechanics with a Giygas battle could be like… as the crowd cheers for the players, Giygas begins to disintegrate. It gets more and more continuous as you battle without dying until it drowns out the boss music, and with one final hit+cheer Giygas bursts into television static.
Man, that’d rule.
I agree Wart would have been awesome. And only Peach could hurt him, really. People would be running to GameFAQs because he totally keeps blowing bubbles in their faces.
Wart would have been a better final boss than Marx. Err, Tabuu.
And hey, the Devil Machine is reflecting Dark Samus, not Samus!
Zero Suit Samus: “Paula help me! Pray for the safety of me and my friend… What was it again? Oh Right, Kirby!”
I quite agree with canned o above on how the mecchanics will work, but won’t *checks**O_o* 3256% of damage be a bit unfair, even for a boss?
They SHOULD add in Gyiyg in SSB4, they need more villians, they need an earthbound character who isn’t a Ness clone, we need the mewtwo mourners to get a replacement. Just use his Mother form, and then his Mother 2 form for the most devastating final smash EVAR!
@ Labrynian_Rebel:
Yes. Gyiyg/Giegue/Whatever-you-wanna-call-him would be undeniably -awesome- for the next Smash Bros…
… but sadly, even if Nintendo/HAL -does- put him in, then you -know- there’s gonna be -some-one out there who’ll get upset that they didn’t use -their- favorite interpretation/rendition of him. 🙁
… unless that ends up being -his- version of “color palettes”… or if they approach it like Wario…
I like the idea, but, Giygas would be KINDA overpowered, here’s what it could do:
. It could shoot explosions anywhere on the stage (With the power of Ultimant Chimera!)
. It IS the stage (DUH!)
. For it’s inexplicabal attack, it could do a PSI starstorm with a bunch of PSI Fires bursting around
. Samus beams EVERYWHERE! For a attack
. Master hand lasers locked onto a player
. You could beat him, by using taunts, it becomes prayers, which cause a normal attacks worth of damage
I think it would have been a great idea to replace Tabuu with Giygas as a final boss
LOL I wish that happened in brawl, but as long as its for kids(strangly enough even though its meant for kids Brawl is rated T) it will never happen.
From the style of the drawings, I’m assuming this is the work of Taylor Southerland, a regular contributor to Starmen.net.
