Tips for Buying EarthBound

December 14th, 2009 | Images, MOTHER 1

If EarthBound Zero were real, this is what fighting a crow from Ninten’s vantage point would look like. It’s actually kind of creepy somehow.

Thanks to Ness Hero for the pic!

You know what would be cool? If someone made an enemy guide for EarthBound or EarthBound Zero and used real-life pics for as much stuff as they could. Some of the robots and stuff might be hard to find but people are finding lookalike stuff all the time so I doubt it’d be impossible 😛

Creepy? I think it’s funny! 😀

resetsurvivor said on Dec. 14, 2009

I never really thought about the crow’s this way. Kind of makes it funnier to think of Ninten whackin’ this guy with a bat. Poof! feathers.

Hejiru said on Dec. 14, 2009

No crows were harmed in the making of this image. However, some may be now terribly addicted to nicotine.
Experts say smoking causes the average crow’s HP to fall to 80%.
Please, think of the crows.

From the shape of the beak, that might actually be a raven.

Such a real world lookalike manual would in some ways resemble the manual for Zelda II: The Adventures of Link. The enemies in the game looked very tame compared to the horrifying depictions in the manual – especially the slimes!

Hejiru said on Dec. 15, 2009

^You got a link for that? I’m curious now…

That’s one of the things I loved about the EarthBound strategy guide. The fact that it had a lot of photos of real places that were supposed to represent the places in the game.

I also think that would be awesome. Someone needs to start collecting photos like that… And then more people should start taking photos of stuff whenever they can…

Carl said on Dec. 16, 2009

I, too, have always really appreciated that the strategy guide use real photographs to represent so many things from the game. It’s interesting and unique, and makes the Earthbound guide very much unlike any other I’ve seen. Just another cool thing that makes Earthbound so awesome.

Ninji said on Dec. 16, 2009

If there were ever a fan-made MOTHER guide made, then this picture would be used under the Smokey The Crow section, like the epic EB guide which used real-life pictures, and clay models to represent the enemies…..

Ninji said on Dec. 16, 2009

Also, Carl, I haven’t seen you here for a LONG time, what happened to you?

Carl said on Dec. 16, 2009

I post here fairly regularly; are you sure you aren’t thinking of someone else? My last post was in the “Prototype for Sale” thread, only a week ago. I generally refrain from commenting unless the subject is something I’m really interested in, so it’s not like I respond to every single update, but I’m not shy about chiming in when I have something to say.
