Tips for Buying EarthBound

October 9th, 2009 | EarthBound

You know Magnet Hill in Fourside? Well, there’s apparently a Magnetic Hill in real life, and it’s one of those weird optical illusion hills where it looks like your parked car goes uphill:

Thanks to Mr. Jeffman for the info!

There’s a similar place here in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA where your car seems to roll uphill. In the old days people called it “Magnetic Hill” but more recently I’ve heard it called “Gravity Hill”. I forgot about that.

The Salt Lake City one doesn’t photograph as well as this one, though.

Nice indeed.

I read about something like that in my homestate of Michigan. We also have the “Mystery Spot” up in the Upper Peninsula where there are multiple illusions like this, including water flowing up, among other things.

That magnet is a bit tacky, don’t you think? Oh well, it’s still cool. 😛

Hehehe, I’ve passed there before lots of times. There’s the Magnetic Hill Zoo and Magic Mountain around there… it’s a very fun place. The city it’s in is Moncton.

Wikipedia describes the phenomenon here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravity_hill — there are a very large number throughout the world, which they list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_magnetic_hills

There’s even blue houses in the background.

Omnitarian said on Oct. 9, 2009

Any videos of the illusion in action?

Poe said on Oct. 9, 2009

Omni – one of the locations on that list that Dave posted in Wikipedia is Spook Hill. I live near there and it’s nothing special at all. You put your car in neutral and you roll down the hill, just like any car will do on a hill if you put it in neutral. No optical illusion, just a lame tourist trap. Maybe it’s different at other hills, I’m just ashamed that Spook Hill is so popular.

adam said on Oct. 20, 2009

I went there as a kid.

I never drew the connection…only 7 more sanctuaries to go?

geigue master said on Nov. 7, 2009

That one is the one in moncton isn’t it.

Pony said on Jun. 28, 2012

I totally live there!! I never understood how it worked as a kid, but now that I realize what’s going on, I find it really stupid how they charge people to go on it. The water park is pretty sweet though. I guess.
