Famitsu’s Review of MOTHER 1

None foundSeptember 13th, 2009 | Weekly Round-Up
Kind of a slow week this week, but some cool stuff still popped up. A couple magazine scans, info about the Mr. Saturn stuff in arcades, info about the EB0 prototypes, and more.
There’s not a whole lot more to say, so let us take a look at what’s transpired this past week!
Site News
- Did a little bit more work on MOTHER 1+2 as mentioned in a post this week here. This project is pretty low on my priority list though because I have more important stuff that requires my time.
- This last week was actually one of the better weeks for the site, I guess a lot of people are coming in from stumbleupon, though I don’t know why.
EarthBound News
- Detailed info about the EarthBound Zero prototypes all in one location
- Mr. Saturn in Japanese arcades!
- MOTHER 3 in NGamer magazine

- Cool MOTHER 3 second-to-last boss battle remix
Cool Auctions & Merchandise
Perhaps the biggest merch news this week is that a lot of the new MOTHER 3 Mr. Saturn plushes have been hitting eBay. In Japanese auctions, they sell for $40-ish with buy-it-now, but over here sellers are still inflating the price like crazy to things like $150. But if you keep checking regularly, you’ll probably find one for a decent price. I think I saw like five or more this past week, I’m guessing we’ll only start to see more in the coming weeks.

Anyway, here’s a lot of other stuff that showed up on eBay this week that’s worth checking out. Remember that you can check to see all the EarthBound and MOTHER stuff currently on eBay here. And if you’re into RSS feeds, check out this one, it will keep you somewhat up-to-date with EarthBound merch as it shows up on eBay.

What’s Up With Itoi
- He didn’t get political when he said this, but Itoi mentioned how it’s strange that nowadays people (in Japan, specifically) vote for the political party rather than like in the older days, when it was more about the individual people and their individual platforms. I’m guessing he brought this up because of all the stuff that went on recently with the prime minister elections there and the incumbent getting his head handed to him.
- Itoi also talked about something he calls “grownup purchases” – things you buy because you wanted to buy it as a kid but couldn’t at the time. In his case, he bought a ton of Beatles stuff this week, even though he had all of the music already. He spent most of the week talking about how awesome the remastering is and how he listens to a little bit of their re-released music per day. He was definitely very excited by all this Beatles stuff going on.
Upcoming Stuff
I don’t have any plans for this next week, we’ll just go through the queue some more.
End

Nah, I’ll let LucasTizma or someone else get it. 🙂

Yeah, stumbleupon will get you a /lot/ of visitors. It just does. I’ve seen it bring down servers before. Yep.

I agree with Itoi about how awesome the Beatles remastering is. Yellow Submarine sounds way better than in did on the tape I had of it. 🙂
Why does the person who keeps selling Mother 2 “in Japanese version” always spoil Mother 3 in the description?

Only if he’d have a MOTHER Compilation ready for us…
Use a proxy to buy it from Yahoo Japan and you can probably get them for 60 with shipping.
I’m glad Itoi knows about the Beatles remastering CD’s, I wonder if he bought the Beatles rock band though… it would be entertaining to hear him sing Helter Skelter.

No, I don’t even think they have Rock Band over there.
That’s so sad. Not that they don’t have Rock Band, that such a huge Beatles fan like Itoi doesn’t have access to the very first Beatles video game!

Pretty sure Itoi has the resources and wherewithal to import a copy if he’s really hot for it.
I know exactly what he means about the grownup purchases. When I first found myself as a “grown-up” — back in the dark days of the twentieth century, because I’m ancient beyond reckoning — I spent pretty much all of my disposable income (and quite a bit that wasn’t!) on stuff that I always wanted to have but never could. I still do this to an extent, but not with anything like the reckless abandon from when I was young. 🙂

I do “grownup purchases” myself, but such is mostly just Pokemon cards that I always wanted (like a 1st edition card*)
* = More specifically, I got a 1st Edition Base Set Lightning Energy for a quarter.

I just bought that ridiculously low Player’s Guide.
I dunno, the seller seemed a bit suspicious.

I stand corrected-
The Guide turned out to be real, Scratch N’ Sniff intact and everything. 😀
Piggy Jelly indeed.
