EarthBound Enemies Hack

Man, last week’s poll was so neck-and-neck. I thought for sure that one or the other would overwhelmingly win.
Anyway, let’s change things a little bit and talk about the games themselves rather than stuff in the games. The question this time is: Which is most likely to happen? MOTHER/EarthBound ports for new consoles, official remakes, or sequels?

I say remakes because NOA would have to change/fix/ruin some things to re-release it.

I think ports and remakes are most likely, with ports being at the top. Ports because of the virtual console and that DSi Ware or whatever that is coming out, and remakes aer elikely because NoA lawyers’s still want to change the content to be able to release it, though NCL will likely say no again. I think that if it comes to the virtual console, it will truly show that a lot of people want MOTHER.
I love my mother, and three other MOTHERs. haha
Ports, remakes, sequels in that order. Nintendo are wont to rehashing, remakes are few and far between even in their bigger franchises, and sequels are unlikely due to Itoi’s non-involvement with the series. It’ll be a cold day in hell before we see any of the above, though.
Ports. I wouldn’t mind a Mother 1+2+3. But still, even though it is hopeless, I wish it would come to our side of the ocean.
I’d say remakes because I think Nintendo wants to bring mother to America but wants to change stuff in the game. I wish they wouldn’t, I would prefer a port.
Ports are the most likely. Remakes would be typically reserved for more lucrative games. I’d say you can expect a few ports, at least in Japan, on future consoles.
Please note that censorship would not be considered remaking the game. At least not at this level. I wouldn’t even consider bonus content a remake.

I’d go with ports to new consoles, since I doubt people would make a remake but still there’s a good possibility. And a new sequel… Hmm, I’d do a back flip if that ever happened 😛
Actually, i’d think that the most likely thing would be a bunch of spinoffs, knowing Nintendo.
But, that option isn’t there, so, remakes, I guess.

I am thinking that, first, Mother 2 and 1 will come out in Virtual Console.
Then, Mother 4 will come out. (Mr. Itoi said that he would lets others do a Mother 4, so such is not 100% out of the question…)
I’m also partial to the idea of a Mother 1+2+3 for the DS or something. But chances of that actually happening are pretty slim.
Port, Sequel, remake. I remember reading Itoi didn’t even want the slightest change in the gba ports, so a remake is out of the question IMO.
I’m gonna be the pessimist of the group and choose the hidden D – all of the above. How is that pessimism? Because they’re all just as likely to happen in that they’re probably not going to happen at all.

Most likely? Port of some sort. I would far prefer a sequel, of course,
IMO Another sequel is very, very unlikely. As stated above, unlike with Mother 3, Itoi has no plans to continue the series and Nintendo wouldn’t go for it without Itoi. The other two options are a bit closer. Ports of old, popular games are common in this industry, but MOTHER is already on the GBA, so it’d be a while before a re-release would make any sense. A remake would solve the copyright problems in Earthbound (and let them finally cash in on the thing), but again I doubt they’d do it without Itoi, and he seems to be trying to move on at this point.
I guess my vote is on a port, with the caveat that all bets are off if Itoi wants to come back to Mother before the next handheld console comes out.
none of them are likely at all
of course porting a game takes the least amount of work but not even that will happen
🙁 I don’t believe any are likely to happen..
I’m grateful enough that MOTHER 3 happened.
Maybe MOTHER has been left in the hands of the fans, which is a growing number thanks to the translations!

I’m going with another sequel. We were lucky enough to get Earthbound. I’m pretty sure we won’t get mother 3 (esp. now that it has been translated). GBA is being phased out (so no M1+2). They (NOA) went out of their way to strip EB from Super Smash Bros Brawl So that’s outta the question.
..but, I’m pretty sure M3 will be the last one.
I’m guessing that there will be some kind of Mother 1+2+3 compilation released in Japan eventually. As far as what “we” will be getting, my money is on nothing at all.
Itoi has specifically stated that he has no desire to pursue creating a Mother 4, although has he ever said anything about having no desire to pursue creating any future game whatsoever?

Remakes would be likely
Remake is definitely the most likely.
Itoi doesn’t wanna do a sequel
And a port would be unlikely since they have to change various parts. Plus there’s Brownie Brown’s DS dealio
A port seems to be the most likely, as it’s an easy way to get sales…but guys, we’re talking divine intervention up in here.

Sequel would be nice, but a port is by far the most likely.

Anything except a port, because N’s legal department won’t let a lot of the music through, but a sequel or remake can simply have different music.

personaly, i prefer to remake is Mother 1 because, the grafics are simple in Famicon, with better grafics i bet the game will be better in all.
I voted remakes. i don’t know why, but i think it has to do with the “rerelease” loop hole i made up for it :/
I voted sequel.
Ports to new systems, really? Haven’t we been through this already, people?
I think MOTHER 1 is in desperate need of a good remake. In fact, I think it should receive an entire 3D overhaul and be released for the Wii, since we’ve never gotten that 3D MOTHER game so many of us wanted. I know Itoi’s mentioned that he’s not really impressed with CGI movies and stuff, but if someone could convince him to at least offer some kind of help in making it, it would be amazing.
Well, since EB has no chance on the VC (I already have a copy and an SNES, both working.), and Mother 1+2 wasn’t as good as preferred…*Cough*Musicissues*Cough*, not to mention Itoi said he wasn’t planning a Mother 4… Mother 1 could still have a chance on the Virtual Console.
Everyone knows game developers don’t mean it when they say they’re done with a series. I’m pretty sure almost every MGS title has been Kojima’s “last game” in the series.

That wasn’t what the poll question was about. The question is simply which is more likely than the others. I could’ve phrased the question differently and added a “it’ll never happen” option, but there’ve already been polls along those lines in past posts.
Actualy, a Mother 1+2/Mother 3 port is very possible – in Japan. The DSi has a shop channel, and that opens the opportunity of a Virtual Console for handhelds to show up. That may even be why Mother 1/2 were never released on the Wii’s VC either – so everyone can play each game on the same console if Nintendo ever went that route.
Now outside of Japan? Snowball’s chance.
I would say remake because of 2 reasons,
1: Mr filsa maye s lawyers love being total jas
2: Itoi dos not want a seaqul . p.s I am so sorry for the bad spelling. ;D
I’m more convinced there will simply be ports since it was done with mother 1+2 for the GBA.

I’m not 100% sure what the difference between a port and a remake are in this case… I usually consider a remake to be an edition of a game with significant changes, of which port would seem a sub-category of.
![]() | Leirin said on Jul. 12, 2009 |
MadDean: A port is usually the game with no changes or differences made, which is what Virtual Console tries doing. Remakes add in all sorts of random stuff.
I’d love to see a spiritual successor, such as the cellphone version of Another World… Only a little bit more than a graphic connection. Look at all the old spiritual successors in videogames like Bioshock.
I will say a remake of Mother 1 and 2 along with a mother 3 port for ds.
Now, I say a sequel. Given the massive amounts of legal difficulties around the Mother series and a US release, I’d scratch off a VC port. Remakes? I don’t think Shigesato Itoi would approve. He applied a lot of love to what he makes, and I think he would regard as any changes made in a remake as detrimental.
A sequel. I know he said he just wanted to be a player, but he also said that he was canceling Mother 3 years prior. This is a question not of his principles, as I’ve stated above, but what he would actually do. I’m guessing that he’s going to wait another 9-10 years, make Mother 4, then retire.
cool speaking of remakes i am a manga artist and remaking the Doujinshi and manga
They aren’t going to port the games without changing them dramatically to avoid copyright infringements, and afterwards they might as well be remakes…
![]() | Mr. Crosser said on Oct. 23, 2009 |
I’d just get a remake for DS, even if it was only in japanese
Remake. A port will be a pain in the butt for Nintendo. Shigisato Itoi said nothing of a Mother 4. Another reason for my choice is that I’ve never played a Mother game before.
![]() | Joshua Johnson said on Mar. 23, 2010 |
personally, I dont think nintendo will touch The mother series again. such a shame how the US has so many mother fans, and nintendo is too blind to see that releasing mother 3 for DS will bring in alot of money….. and Shigisato is done with the mother series….
I dont know. considering nintendo even refuses to talk about mother, I highly doubt they would like to remake one of the games.
Will you make a “Mother” games in the United States? Can you also make the Earthbound Zero into a remake on the Nintendo DS? My friend and I are huge fans in the “Earthbound/Mother” Series. You can put the games in the Club Nintendo website.
I think Mother releases outside of Japan have low chances to happen, unless Nintendo Japan CEO Iwata convinces or forces NoA to give more attention to this series, which is very dear to him. Here is the sad fate that befell Mother 3:
“we have very recently heard, from a very reliable source, that this game will never be officially published in the English language. The developers themselves commissioned full English, French, Spanish, and German translations of the game for the purpose of communicating it to Nintendo of Not-Japan. It did not pass their quality examinations. According to our source, the plot was “too serious”, to a point betraying the graphic design (cartoon-like).”
Man I really hope that Itoi bring us a sequel I know he has denied that possibility a couple of times but who knows maybe if we all pray he will give us a surprise…….DAKOTA!
Just imagine it, I know that all of us want at least a final game with this I mean a real conclusion something that all of us will remember and say: that’s what make me who I am? sorry if there’s gramatical errors. DOING!
if nintendo was smart they would put eb on vc i mean theyd get alot of cash. but if they did i guess it would be japan only. its not fair.
remakes are more likely. It would be the most logical choice because of the copyright infringements in the original games.
Remakes would cause children to cry, cute animals to burn, and Shigesato Itoi to cry unto the heavens in grief. Clearly ports are the answer here.
I say remakes because brownie brown already said that they’d want to make a DS remake of Mother 3.
