Tips for Buying EarthBound

July 26th, 2009 | Images, Itoi, MOTHER 3

The awesomely talented Elf Kitty (example of awesomeness) met Reggie at a Nintendo company picnic today:

She says this:

This was at the Nintendo company picnic today. After the photo I said “So can I ask you about Mother 3 now?!”. He just laughed and said “You can ask, but it doesn’t mean that I’ll answer anything!”

It was pretty funny 🙂

Ahh, Reggie. The eternal scapegoat of the Mother community. Seems like a nice enough guy, despite saying some dumb things from time to time.

I want his job so bad. He is a professional BSer.

this proves that he was lying about loving the mother series, if he did love the series so much, he wouldn’t have a problem talking about it.

hollow leviathan said on Jul. 26, 2009

Mitch, you rogue. Why did you have to do that? Your actions are in clear violation of the EB Central constitution.

Z-Master said on Jul. 26, 2009

Chimera : I think he was KIDDING.

SuperTrainStationH said on Jul. 26, 2009

Chimera, Reggie liking the MOTHER series does not come before him doing his job as the NOA president, which entails keeping his mouth shut about things Nintendo doesn’t have anything to announce about.

Considering how the gaming world is today, I’m not surprised. Had Mother 3 gotten a US release, within days we’d hear a FAMBLY FOCUS or whatever group they are spittin’ a lawsuit about how Nintendo is recruiting kids to be homosexuals or something like that. Nintendo’s all too familiar with ridiculous lawsuits from our crazed evangelical nation. Not “morally based”, for example, is MGM’s lawsuit claiming they had royalty rights for Donkey Kong AFTER having proven in an earlier lawsuit that it was in fact, public domain.

No Mother, No Earthbound, no problem.
(probably said a million times before).

Basically, the US has built a culture of sue/countersue to the point where daytime TV makes entertainment of it all. I’d say this was the reason Nintendo is extremely cautious over selling anything in the US.

Jeagle101 said on Jul. 26, 2009

As sad as I am about Nintendo not releasing Mother 3 out in the states, I have to always remember that Nintendo is a business, even though it looks like it’d be a good idea to release Mother 3 here, and besides, Reggie doesn’t have the power to release it here anyways…

Still, I can dream, right?

Hejiru said on Jul. 26, 2009

Huh, a Mother fan and Reggie met at a picnic and both left without horrible stab wounds.

Now I’ve seen it all.

Zinco said on Jul. 26, 2009

That upsets me, Mitch.

Asshole! Please anwer that!

John said on Jul. 26, 2009

Yeah… I have to admit, when I played through the translation of M3 It was very clearly, almost akwardly apparent as to why it hadn’t gotten a US release.

All powerful fairy transvestites.

Kissing effeminate mermen for oxygen.

Eating shrooms.

I’d like to play through again to remember all the very “NERRR! Conservative games-are-for-kids-only-Mom is nervous!” moments. But it doesn’t take a lot to see where the cultural line would create a variety of snags for an honest release.

Not to be a downer to anyone, but assuming it does ever get released in the US, expect a traumatic degree of face-lifting.

Also, for those who were wondering, Elf Kitty works at Nintendo. Here’s her site: http://katiedudley.com/

The Great Morgil said on Jul. 27, 2009

Well, at least she tried.

Elf Kitty said on Jul. 27, 2009

Haha, my pic made it on to EBCentral! 😀

I was invited to the Nintendo company picnic since I work there. 😉 I see Reggie sometimes and always want to bug him about Mother 3 just to get his reaction. It seemed safer here since we were outside of work, so I went for it, haha! I wasn’t expecting him to answer anything, I just wanted to see the look on his face when he realized that a crazed Mother fan was in his presence. =)

Churly said on Jul. 27, 2009

At least Reggie doesn’t be a jerk about and it does acknowledge the Mother fanbase exists.

He is not obligated to explain why he won’t bring it over.

The Great Morgil said on Jul. 27, 2009

See, though a lot of people here seem to make him out to be a jerk, i’ve always thought Reggie to be a pretty cool guy.

Sisto said on Jul. 27, 2009

Why don’t this guy just give people what
they want?

Moupi said on Jul. 27, 2009

i am mother fan so gangry ;~;

PKSTARMAN said on Jul. 27, 2009

… Please give us what we want! Even my brother and lots of people that play games wants Mother 3 or Earthbound on the VC!

zombieslapper said on Jul. 27, 2009

I really haven’t seen many other instances besides this one in which in terms of video games, the people didn’t get what they wanted. It’s irritating.

I dunno, they could probably crank up the rating to teen, and avoid much of the problem. Not all of it, of course, but certainly a substantial amount.

PKSTARMAN said on Jul. 28, 2009

Wow, shes REALLY cute! if shes also in the EArthbound Central stuff then… uhhh… Do you have a boyfriend? I live in Tennesee

Curiomime said on Jul. 28, 2009

*sharpens dagger*

gimme one good reason why we shouldn’t assassinate Reggie.

Mato said on Jul. 28, 2009

Because we’re not crazy or evil.

Curiomime said on Jul. 28, 2009

Sorry :\

Can we at least mess with his head a little? Some old fashioned gang extortion? Come on! We need to make the point directly to him! He’s stopped way way too many great japanese games from coming over.

Dark Kow said on Jul. 30, 2009

I saw the attacks coming. He’s not that bad. Quit scapegoating him (sorry IWGOTD, couldn’t think of a different term)
