Giant Mr. Saturn… for $2000

Yesterday, I posted this in celebration of MOTHER’s 20th anniversary, and it’s been well-received. People even sent in congratulation messages to Itoi, because this was the very first thing Itoi said on his site today:
There were quite a lot of e-mails from overseas yesterday. 20 years ago from the 27th was the day MOTHER was released, and the messages were celebrating that. It’s kind of funny that the creator doesn’t even remember the 20th anniversary, but I looked back fondly on those days after being reminded. While I was at it, I decided to play the game’s soundtrack in my room while I worked. Many thanks to everyone! BOING
I wonder if he knows that only MOTHER 2 was ever released outside of Japan. Oh well, it’s still cool acknowledgment anyway, and it’s good to see him actually talk about the games for once. It seems like he only mentions them once or twice a year anymore 😛

Yes, but I’m sure he doesn’t follow Nintendo of America regularly.
In the end, I’m glad he just recognized the international appeal for his series. I hope he has some pull over Nintendo Co., Ltd.’s distribution of the games. I mean, isn’t he good friends with Satoru Iwata?
Hmm, I was wondering if he was ever going to respond to his MOTHER’s birthday!
This is nice but I am frankly a little unsettled that he doesn’t bring up the MOTHER games often. Oh well, I’m sure he’s a busy man.
Why, Itio, why!?

-Giant expensive Katamari’d package of love: no respone
-Uninhibited individual congratulatory emails: nostalgia trip and warm fuzzies
I guess the lesson is simpler is better. It’s nice to hear things from Itoi every now and then, although unless some other video game project comes up, there probably won’t be anything else to listen out for until the 25th anniversary of MOTHER when we get to bug Itoi again.
Good thing.
Btw, I’m sure he mentioned the mother game again in that post, but maybe I’m wrong.
Oh, yeah, here:
Is that even related? Or is it just a brief mention or something?
Anyway, thanks for translating. I’d feel pretty good if I had such a loving fanbase XD
Wow, Yesterday I made a party like woah! extremely carzy and long! This 20 aniv. was great! I hope Itoi did one too… maybe he forgot the 20 aniv.! Congratulations Shigestato Itoi!
I hope hope that too Smaman! and tthanks for responding in the Old Mother 3 artcle!
Nice. It can be difficult to be enthusiastic about something that you create for work, rather than recreation. You can’t really fault him for that. But it’s good that he does have fond memories of the past 20 years. Ups and downs, I suppose, as with everything.
I sent a mail myself yesterday. Not sure if it was read, probably skimmed if anything, but it still felt right :).

santiagoff: Yeah, that’s just a brief mention, he says the idea of all these different people (including Mother players) reading stuff by this wise old guy he respects is kind of neat.
In other words, nothing really of interest to us, especially since the majority of people here can’t read the old guy’s stuff.

I’m glad we were able to help him remember 🙂 Maybe he read my email?! 😀
@mato: Yeah, I’d like to be able to read his stuff. He seems to have some pretty interesting thoughts. Oh well, thanks for answering 😀
Mato, what do you think about doing a daily translation of the Hobonichi blog posts? You’re probably way, way too busy for that, but if you weren’t, would it be something that would interest you?
I do think an english version of the blog would be cool. I’d read it.

b: I actually did do that for about a month a year or two ago, but it wound up being too much work, especially while also trying to juggle the Mother 3 translation and everything else. So now I only translate specific thing that seem interesting. I actually have like 30+ entries saved that I’d like to translate sometime but haven’t gotten around to it because work keeps me too busy during the day.
Do a search on EB Central or on Google for “Eye on Itoi”, that’s what I called the old translated entries.
I’d also love to read that, but it’d be too much work for you in my opinion. Poor mato D:
@ santiagoff:
I think that what we need is a full team of volunteer translators, always hooked up on Itoi’s blog and translating everything 🙂
… yeah… like that would happen…

It’s cool to see Itoi actually acknowledge us. (even though I didn’t really do much anything besides sitting on a couch all day :P)
People can`t quite seem to understand that the creator of something does not obsess about it like it`s fans.
Or that the creator created other things, most of which arn`t even videogames….
Still, quite a landmark…
Itoi is acting like if he never made the mother series the world might have been better to some extent. It worries me alot.
@bitchslap Itoi is a busy man and has a life history of many accomplishments other than MOTHER. He doesn’t have time to acknowledge all the time, but he is definitely happy that he made it. Go read some of his stuff about no MOTHER 4 and see what he has to say about the series
That Mr.Saturn in the picture is actually a statue that he handed out to like, 10 people.
He has to know that M2 was the only one to go overseas, he was the creator.
