I voted Ness’s Mum. I always found the way she talked to her son… strange.

Ness’s mom would rather clean the toilet than talk to her darling son, who just happens to be thousands of miles away. What kind of mother is that?!

I have to go with Ness’s mom, because she reminds me of my own mother much more than the other two.

Hinawa. She has a name, a character. She shows true love for her children, unlike the first two moms, whose only purpose served as a free hotel. Not to mention the circumstances of her character.

I voted Ness’s mom. I mean, if not for her, Ness wouldn’t have the will to fight(as in getting homesick -_-). And she indirectly helps stop Giygas.

Though, I do love Hinawa, I woulda chosen her too, but I can only go with one, and Ness’s mom was it.

Ninten’s mom… ha, well, other than giving you food and rest, that’s pretty much all she’s good for. :I

Ness’ mom. She’s just such a supportive lady to her little Ness. She’s not as emotion-based as Hinawa, but still enough so that Ness misses her and has to call home every now and then. Plus she arguably has the best dialogue of the three ladies. “Sure, you’re cool…whatever.”

Ninten’s mom get points for being the only one with two hairstyles.

I like the way that in Mother 3, she’s actually part of the story instead of just an extra.

Hinawa. She’s the only one that has more than 4 pixels for a smile. That’s my only reason, its not like some sort of tragedy happened involving her. Nope, not at all.

Definitely Hinawa, because she was a real character that had succumbed to tragic events. While the other two moms are good, they’re just stereotypical archetypical “home moms” without much depth.

Ness’s mom’s dialogue was always very funny and very Motherly-esque. While I like the oter two, Hinawa was too perfect and never really had faults while Ness’s mom had an attitude. This is just my opinion though. I love the Mother Mothers! :D:D:D

I understand all of the reasons to support Hinawa, but I had to go Ness’s Mom simply because I never felt I had the chance to connect with Hinawa. the only time we ever see her alivve is at the beginning of the game for a short moment, whereas I’ve known Ness’s mom since the game was released some 14 years ago.

Ness’s mom all the way. She’s the sweetest of the three. I always thought Hinawa really didn’t care about Lucas , and you barely ever see Ninten’s mom.

I do like Ness’s mom, if only because I found her sorta oddly funny, but I did like Hinawa, too. She’s probably the only mom that had a real impact on the story.
The other moms are just kinda…there.

I voted Ness’s mom because she has this cool thing about her that I can’t really explain in words.

Isn’t Ninten’s mom’s name Carol? I seem to remember there being SOMEONE named Carol… Maybe it was Pippi’s mother…?

Ness’ mom. Hinawa makes me depressed because I name the main family after my family, and I keep killing her off :(. That and Ness’ mom will feed him his favorite food over and over again.

Ness’ mom is the best. Hinawa’s a plot device; as Artek said, she just shows up and dies. We never spend any time with her, and never get to know her or gain any insight into her character. Frankly, I came out of Mother 3 with more of a connection to the Mole Cricket than to Hinawa.

Hinawa. Ninten’s mom is a close second though, simply because of one line in the game from your dad. “Just like your mom, you never wanna stop.”

Ninten’s mom NEVER wants to stop. Oh yeah.

Hinawa because even though she died she was always guiding Lucas and she also helped in the final battle.

Ness’s mom was cool, but like someone else had mentioned, she always seemed to be in a rush to get off the phone.

I voted Hinawa because you actually care about her character…the other two aren’t very major characters in the game considering they never really get mentioned or play a major part in the storyline

Definitly voting for Ness’s mom. Ninten’s mom is pretty much a watered down version of Ness’s, and Hinawa feel more like a plot devices then a real mother, you barly know her at all.

Ness’s mom give us our favorite food every day, know what to say when we are feeling down (or homesick) and even cover us by feeding lies to our school while we are saving the world. And she did quite a lot of damages to the Ultimate Cosmic Destroyer, no less!

I have to agree with what a lot of people are saying about Hinawa – she isn’t really around long enough to develop any important connection to the player. She is only ‘important’ as, well obviously as a plot device, but also as we spend time with Lucas, we really feel for the little guy for losing his mother.

As for Ninten’s mom… does anyone ever go and see her again after they leave Podunk? I know I didn’t.

My vote had to go to Ness’s mom. Like my own mom, always cleaning and supporting me, even when I’m just calling cause I’m home sick… that’s a mother.

Pippi’s mom’s name is Lindgren.

Ness’s mom is funny and seems alot more human than Ninten’s or Hinawa. Hinawa is nice but seems more like an ideal than a person, I guess.

Queen Mary is my favourite mother in the series. It’s weird she isn’t listed – wasn’t story about her and Giegue why Itoi chose the name Mother?

I voted Hinawa because even though you never get to know her, all of the flashbacks that lucas has and how upset he gets lets you know how good of a mother she was. also, Mother 3 made me think, how would ness or ninten had reacted if their mothers had been killed while they were childeren? I wonder if Ness would have ended up the same hero? on a side note, are you going to have a father’s day poll like this? if you are, you should put Jeff’s Dad on there, Just for the heck of it. (seriously how do you forget you had a son?)

@the name of the game is lightworks, No, Itoi chose the name MOTHER, because of the John Lennon song “Mother” Which happens to be one of my favorite songs by him.

I voted for Ness’s Mom because she’s perpetually happy and had a more prominant role than Ninten’s.

Hinawa. i can’t describe exactly why, but there’s something about her that i really admire and like, compared to Ness’s mom and Ninten’s. I also think she feels more passionate towards her kids while the others are just… there (no offense). Maybe it’s just the fact that she experienced so much in general that it really got me, but that’s my vote.

Hinawa. Ninten’s mom didn’t even DO ANYTHING. At least Ness’ mom was important because Ness gets homesick a lot, and she delivered the penultimate blow to Giygas. Also, she let Ness skip school and tried to keep it a secret from his teacher. That’s just awesome. On the other hand, without Hinawa, MOTHER 3 just wouldn’t be the same. Yes, all you see of her is just the prologue and flashbacks, but she’s still awesome. Honestly, she gives you a Nut Bread when you ram into her and who could forget, “Then you can stay inside, in your pajamas, for the rest of your life.” You know, I disagree with Itoi. Rather than the Mole Cricket, I think of Hinawa as MOTHER 3’s Buzz Buzz. Buzz Buzz gave the Sound Stone to Ness, and then he died RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING. But if you look at a tombstone in Magicant, it says, “This is Buzz Buzz’s tombstone. He appeared earlier in the game and gave up the ghost before he achieved his goal.” Well, Hinawa certainly wasn’t forgotten, and though she only gave Lucas her love, it’s just the same; and if you think about it, isn’t MOTHER 3 Love Theme like MOTHER 3’s version of Eight Melodies?

retard: I know that, but the name was also chosen because it fits with the theme of the games, wasn’t it? I don’t think it was just chosen whimsically. One of the biggest themes of the first games, anyway, is a mother’s love.

The others not so much, but everything starts with the first game and the story about Giegue and Maria – and the third game does have Hinawa.

FUN FACTOID: John Lennon called Yoko Ono “mother”. Weird or what?

Ninten’s Mom: You see her once and never again. She only says 2 lines the entire game. Free hotel.

Ness’ Mom: Lines change often. She helps you get rid of homesickness. She prays for you in the Giygas fight. Free hotel.

Hinawa: Tons of dialog. More character development. Dies in the first chapter, but continues to be a main character. No longer a free hotel.

I think I’m gonna have to vote for Hinawa, but I do have to give props to Ness’s mom. She seems very, I dunno, mom-ish. I like the letter at the end where she says something to the effect of “I heard you were fighting some evil space guy. WHat was his name, Googi?”

It seems like a real mom; she doesn’t fully understand what you’re doing, but she supports you anyway. I think it’s because Ness is thirteen-ish that the relationship is different. Hinawa is a purely loving person, and makes the game very emotional (sunflowers), but because Lucas is so young, you can’t really see a full side of her.

Ness’s mom is my favorite.

Hinawa simply had much more significance than the other mothers listed. She was a central point to the plotline of Mother 3.

What I’m wondering is why isn’t Queen Mary listed? She’s really the reason for the series’ name. I’d pick her if she was listed.

Ness’ mom. I think Hinawa was an even shallower mother than Ness’ mom, just kinda the usual love-your-kids-so-hard mom, which is neat, but to be expected (most of her personality comes from Lucas’ love for her, I think) whereas Ness’ mom is somehow way more realistic; kinda ditsy, sweet, house-cleaning, calls Giygas “Googi”, and generally seems to think that Ness is just out enjoying himself or something. I love the line at the start, “Ness, you don’t seem scared. Are you nuts?”

I notice that the people who voted for Ness’s mom tend to say that there wasn’t enough time for you to connect with Hinawa, yet the people who did vote for Hinawa were able to connect with her just fine. Differing attachment rates are very interesting. It does make me wonder, though, how the former group feels about Buzz Buzz.

She (Debateably) played a bigger role than any of the other moms, and as to her fate.. you’ll need to play Mother 3.

Ness’ mom and her TOO BAD attitude never fail to make me laugh 8D

For Me its a toss up between Ness’s mother and Hinawa. Ness’s mom was pretty funny at times, also I don’t know too many mothers who let their children just eat their favorite food and go straight to bed. Then again she didn’t really have any other things going for her other than a few quirky lines, and serving Ness his favorite food being like a free hotel, though I have to say I have to thank her for being able to cure Ness’s annoying homesickness condition though still it really gets annoying to have to call her at the worst possible times.

Hinawa has more involvement and is more major in the game’s story being and being a kind a gentle soul *spoilers* and without her the last fight would have been unwinable. But this is only because she is the only Mother in the series to be given more involvment in the story than the other two, if the other mothers had been just as much involvemnent story wise it might be different, also they didn’t really give enough time to give the player an emotional attchment to her, I didn’t really cry when she died, I hardly had any time getting to know her in the story. I know there are some flashbacks but they’re are hardly any of them and most are portrayed as more of a way to guide you in the right direction than to gain emotional attachments. I kind of feel the same way with Lucas’s fight with Claus. There were hardly any flashbacks between the two. My beta reader who was giving Me story advice once said you need to show a lot of the character and their relationship from the past because if you don’t then when it comes down to it they won’t really feel the struggle the person in your story is having, and I really didn’t cry when I reached it.

Anyways, I do like that she is more involved than the other Mothers though.

Though yeah Ninten’s mother could have really been used as more than just a basic recover for free stop.

I vote for Hinawa, I mean come on, she’s super sweet, the reason for Lucas’ Bravery, *SPOILERS* the reason Claus is Masked, the plot machine, and she gave faith to both of her children all the time and *SPOILERS* During the last battle.

Hinawa, definately Hinawa. How could you not love Hinawa?! She’s a sweet, endearing character. She’s a caring, gentle person who cares about everyone. And apparently she teases Flint in one flashback…. She’s got a character and moves the storyline. She’s really all that you could ask of a story character: she’s endearing, lovable, memorable, leaves a lasting impression, and she moves the story along. She definately is the best of the three.

Not to say Ness’ mom isn’t awesome, it’s just… Hinawa is more awesome….

She really cares for her son, and just because she didn’t stop him to enter in a dangerous and horrible journey (this is pretty cool, in a certain way XDD) it doesn’t make her a bad mom, she just realized that it’s his son’s duty. And i think she talks so sweetly to him! It’s so cute!

And, anyway, the game is almost for her: MOTHER. ;D

Ness’s mom. She’s pretty interesting for the time that she’s important, and unfortunately I have not played EB0 yet (though I intend to, there’s this thing called procrastination. You should try that sometime, but it doesn’t have to be soon if you don’t want it to be). Hinawa always felt like more of a plot point than a person to me- you don’t even see her in chapter 1. Her whole personality is “Good, loving person, no flaws or anything.”

That’s not a mother, that’s a robot who learned to love, and nothing else.

I sort of hated Ness’s mom since I had to call her all the time to avoid homesickness and she served absolutely no purpose. Although, she prayed for the safety of her child!! As for Hinawa, she’s the same as all the mothers except you can’t call her…

Hinawa. she defended her sons, and made sure they didn’t do any thing stupid(like kill each other) and the other two let their sons go off and nearly get killed on a number of occasions.(Ness mom even made him open the door despites who it could have been.

Kinda makes sense since he is one of the most powerful persons in the world(the other ones are his friends)and she is just a… mom. XDDD

Ness’ mom, She’s the adult Ana. Also, If you don’t call her, you can’t call Tracy/Escargo Express. Plus, she cures Ness’ homesickNess.
