Tips for Buying EarthBound

May 12th, 2009 | Audio Stuff, EarthBound, Merchandise, MOTHER 1

Just a few days ago, a new Japanese fan-made CD of MOTHER series remixes was released, called “The Invadance!!!” You can see the hompage for it here.

Naturally, there’s a sample MP3 that has previews of each track. Some of them are a little too heavy for me (that first track, for example), but there are also some really good ones in here 😀

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

(download MP3)

It sounds pretty cool, and there’s actually even a copy of it on eBay right now! I do wish these Japanese fans would make this stuff more accessible for international fans to buy, they’d have a much wider audience that way.

Anyway, check out the MP3, and if you happen to see this or any other fan-made CDs on eBay or anywhere else, let me know. I love this stuff 😀

Dance music to me is really only worth playing at dance parties. (logically enough) I think it rarely makes for good listening music, with a few exceptions. (Daft Punk, Rammstein, etc.) While I can’t say I enjoyed simply listening to these samples, I would be way into playing these at a dance party.

“Happy Hardcore” genre music is nice in small doses. I don’t think I could stomach almost an entire CD of it, though.

Also, since when are Daft Punk and Rammstein lumped into the same “etc.” group? Since when has Rammstein been considered “dance” music, for that matter? I are confused.

Definitely not my kind of music, but the cover art looks nice.

I love this type of music! I’m so excited! I won this album and the “Mr. Saturnian Go Home” album on Y! Auctions Japan. I <3 MOTHER music.

Sounds cool!

i really want this CD but sadly I already bought something over $45 so I am broke 🙁

the first track is too much… the rest is pretty cool though, though I think I like the ‘Saturnian Go Home’ album better

Nice, nice. Not a bad mix at all.

I still think my favorite fan remix is Otonoishi… which is why it was so awesome to see REDALiCE at Anime Central this last weekend! In his segment (which was at like 2 am, gah), he played Porkey’s Porkies and the M3 Love Theme. The crowd loved it, even if there were probably a total of two people (me and a friend) who recognized it. =)

I grabbed this. Will let you know how it is and maybe post it somewhere, since its not exactly easy to find.

Hi! I’m the translator for the Invadance crew and they say: We’re really proud that the Invadance has become popular throughout not just Japan but the U.S too! Thank you!

Guys, when I receive The Invadance and Saturnian Go Home, I’d be willing to share the MP3s if you want.

Yes please. :3

Xi said on May. 12, 2009

They released this sample mp3 so you could buy it if you liked it… I’m sure if they wanted you guys to post their entire labor on the net they would have put the whole CD for download instead.

Be mindful of the consequences your actions have.

stirlock said on May. 12, 2009

Then they should make the album available on retail stors, not just places like ebay. If it was universally available, I’d agree with you.

Xi said on May. 12, 2009

Look at that guy’s website. Does he look like he has the money to mass-produce his album for retail stores? No, and he never will if people don’t purchase his product.

You’re saying it’s wrong to steal if someone is part of a record label and can mass-produce albums, but it is okay if they are a small-time musician that can only afford to do the online equivalent of selling their CD’s out of the back of their car?

If you’re going to contribute to the problem of music piracy then go right ahead, but don’t try to defend it. It’s a silly argument. =P

A lot of artists will also make their songs available for digital distribution via paypal, and a lot of artists like this one actually don’t mind their music being traded around, especially if it was produced in limited supply. When it hits ebay, they don’t even see any profit from their work! If he has offered no way to even obtain the album, then how is he expected to “lose” anything? If he sold the physical copies he already created and doesn’t intend on making anymore, then he’s already made his profit! And if anything, he will BENEFIT from his music being spread around as more people will become aware of his work and interested in what else he can produce.

I’m not saying piracy is right, or even that taking this persons music is right, but I’m saying that it’s not exactly black and white. Weighing the pros and the cons, this artist would probably benefit more from the music being spread around at this point than other people make large sums of money of his work on ebay, with little or no benefit to him!

Xi said on May. 13, 2009

I thought that he was selling the copies over auction sites himself.

It’s heavy in the middle of crunch time, and I haven’t slept in five days, so I apologize if my words came off as condescending in that last message.

I really just need some KFC.

stirlock said on May. 13, 2009

Nope, it was just a guy in japan selling various things. I’ll be sure to put this up here once I get it and maybe even email the guy telling him his work is getting out there for more fans to hear.

TheInvadanceCrew said on May. 13, 2009

The Translator says: We let Mato borrow it, okay! P.S: Even though Ness,Paula,Jeff, and Poo are on the cover, it’s not just Mother 2/Earthbound songs! It’s from every game in the series!

kirbykrew said on May. 13, 2009

While Otonoshi was better (Porky of Porky is one of my favorite MOTHER remixes), I must say I really loved the “Because I love You” remix from what I heard in that sample!

Mr. Jupiter said on Jun. 26, 2009

One of the songs takes You back to the days of Galaga and Donkey Kong.

Is anyone going to upload this CD so everybody can download it? :3

Yeah – that’d be cool. Currently I’m on a mission to collect a ton of MOTHER remixes – If anybody does have this, I’d definitely like to see it uploaded.

neonix said on Feb. 22, 2010

Well, I actually got a digital copy of this album a little while back, I can share it with people. Incidentally, I also happened to nab a physical copy off Yahoo Japan recently as well.

My email is in my last comment, so just send me a message and I’ll share with you.
