MOTHER 2 was in lots of Weekly Famitsu issues before and after the game’s release in 1994. Here is one of the earliest looks, courtesy of King Darian. As you might expect, this comes from the April 22, 1994 issue. Caution! Big files! There are some interesting differences between what’s shown here and what was in the final version of the game. Check out Apple Kid’s house. Eve...Read More »

A recent EarthBound community project was to create a really tall “Saturn ladder”. It’s hard to explain, but basically people drew a Mr. Saturn and then they were later all compiled into a really huge art piece, which you can see here. Click to see the full thing (this is only 1% of the ladder…) It’s pretty cool, so check it out sometime! ...Read More »

Like I mentioned before, the giant Mr. Saturn plushies (from the first run) are starting to arrive at people’s houses, so I did a quick look to see what stuff I could find when I came across this: In this video, Mr. Saturn can’t be knocked over! Mr. Saturn magic! ...Read More »

We’ve already looked at the ugh-ness of the EGM review of Earthbound and the “this can’t be for real”-ness of the GamePro review of EarthBound, so here’s another magazine review of EarthBound from back in 1995! This one is from Game Players magazine. Thanks go out to Ema Nymton on the SA forums for the images, and Mark S. for the tip 😀 The review is just one page i...Read More »

Saw this the other day on a random Japanese blog, where they called it a Mr. Saturn Strawberry. It kind of does look like one, if you ignore the back part. Maybe Mr. Saturn is actually Strawberry Kid in disguise after all! Actually, the shape also reminds me of the Strawberry Slime enemy in MOTHER 3. Now if only someone would find a Giygas tomato… ...Read More »

It’s tax season, so today I was going through my tons of receipts when my eyes came upon this: My first thought, of course, was that I somehow bought a 5-pack of MOTHER 3 cartridges from Walmart instead of a 5-pack of Mach 3 razor cartridges. A clear sign I have too much EarthBound on the brain. Anything similar happen to anyone here? Or should I visit an EarthBound detox clinic? ...Read More »

Since we’re already on the subject of Itoi and Studio Ghibli (see here), I thought I’d go into a little more detail about their connection. In the offchance you’ve never heard of Studio Ghibli or Hayao Miyazaki, see here. Just know that they’re like THE ultimate Japanese animation company, akin to Disney here I suppose. Anyway, first and most well-known outside of Japan is ...Read More »

A few folks have pointed out that the character in the latest mystery screenshot is probably based on another Level 5 production called “The Another World“. Again, here’s the recent screenshot we’ve all been pondering about: And here are some images of the “The Another World” character taken from here: The pics you see above are meant for the DS version of th...Read More »
