I just recently learned that there’s a neat YouTube channel dedicated to showing off things that you can’t normally see in video games, and the most recent video is about EarthBound! Check it out here: The video covers all sorts of things using the walk through walls code, as well as some unused content and some battle stuff. I especially like how it shows how the game’s maps we...Read More »
MOTHER 3 was released on the Japanese Wii U Virtual Console last year but no one really knew if it had undergone any changes from its original Game Boy Advance release. That changed last month, when some of the EarthBound hacker guys and I finally got to dig into the new game’s data! In all, it appears that three small changes were made. The programming code that makes these changes work wer...Read More »
A couple months ago I released my very first Legends of Localization book – in it, I explore the localization for the original Zelda game, as well as related merchandise, marketing differences, and more. If you’re a Zelda fan, a retro gaming fan, or even just someone interested in obscure game trivia, it’s right up your alley. (BTW, if you request it in the order comments Poe and...Read More »
kenisu recently posted some translations from the Mother 1 manual, and it includes the name of the main character’s mom: Carol. MY HOME I’ve got four people and one pet in my household: There’s me, my mom Carol, and my little sisters Minnie and Mimmie (they’re twins), as well as our dog Mick. I guess Dad’s out somewhere far away. Whenever I return home, Mom fixes me my favorite food...Read More »
Cap from the Nerdy Show recently posted an in-depth article on the horror elements in the MOTHER series and what their inspirations were. Check out the article here! Some of the topics include the inspiration for the Happy Happy cult, info about the movie that inspired aspects of the Giygas battle (with nary a mention of fetuses!), H.P. Lovecraft, David Lynch, and more. Also, on a similar & ...Read More »
EarthBound Beginnings was released a few days ago on Wii Us outside of Japan, and it appears to be the exact same as the NES ROM that leaked years and years ago, with no known changes. The Japanese version was also released on Japanese Wii Us… but it HAS had some changes. There isn’t a full list of what changes exist in the Japanese version so far, but they seem to be in line with some...Read More »
A few weeks ago, JWitzz posted a video showcasing similarities between EarthBound/MOTHER games and Pokemon: There’s info in there about “NINTEN” being a hidden default name in a Pokemon game – if true, that’s news to me, especially with “SONY” being the antagonist’s hidden default name too. I’m sure the NINTEN name is just a coincidence (simil...Read More »
I’ve pointed out a number of typos and such in the official release of EarthBound, such as the infamous unverse. But there was a much harder-to-find typo in the game all this time that I never knew about until recently. If you visit Milky Well with a party member who’s diamondized (and/or possibly just dead), the following message will pop up: The power of Milkey Well flowed into ____...Read More »
On YouTube, Beta64 recently posted a 20-minute video showing off a number of beta and unused elements in EarthBound / MOTHER 2: A lot of the stuff might be common knowledge if you hang around EB Central often, but maybe there’s stuff in there that’s new to you! I don’t agree with all of the assumptions and claims the video makes (butterflies as enemies, for example), but I’...Read More »
Marcus Lindblom has updated his project’s site with some more EarthBound memories and inside information! First up, he discusses a lot of the changes in the game, including the reasoning behind the bar-to-cafe change, the creation of the English Mr. Saturn font, those weird little extra lights on Dr. Andonuts’ lab, and more! Read his comments on these topics here! More recently, Marc...Read More »
- DJ: From what I’ve gathered I’m pretty sure he still writes copy, so they’re an ad company.
- cosmodos: What does his company even do? Is it actually lucrative? From what I can gather (not knowing Japanese), it’s just his blog, and he...
- Jason: http://www.ipokiso.com/company /2017/hobonichi.html The anticipated price per share is 2,300 yen. As for those wishing to purchase a share...
- Leeaux: Hey I just saw this! Really interesting watch to. Lots of little fun facts.
- Mary: The “behind the scenes” video on how the Ness animation was made is great too. The animators channel is A + Start.
