Multiple people sent this my way – apparently someone was holding up a “LOCALIZE MOTHER 3” sign during a recent WWE SmackDown wrestling event: I don’t know any details beyond that, so if anyone has any more info or pics/videos lemme know! ...Read More »
Super Mario Maker is constantly coming out with new characters to play as, and the latest Japanese video has Master Belch from MOTHER 2/EarthBound slated to be playable on Dec. 19th, 2015: I don’t know if it’s going to be a worldwide release thing all at once, or if it’ll be a Japanese-only thing at first. But holy barf I NEVER expected this! Luckily I have a Japanese Wii U, so ...Read More »
A reader named Glenn just sent in this e-mail: A CNN article about retro video games mentioned EarthBound specifically by name as well as Zelda OoT, and I thought you’d find it interesting. The article is about how the increasing popularity of vintage video games is causing spikes in cash value. Check it out, dog! You can read the article here, and it includes this short video about retro ga...Read More »
A couple weeks ago, a new game called Citizens of Earth was released on Steam and possibly elsewhere. Since the very beginning it was touted as being heavily-inspired by EarthBound. I haven’t played it but just from random screenshots I can kind of see it. There are apparently even EarthBound references in the game that fans will pick up on: I have yet to play the game, but lots of people...Read More »
Over on the EarthBound Reddit, TJourney noticed that this educational (and/or religious?) video series called “Active Learning” features a sudden, short bit of music from EarthBound: Man, this video is so cheesy. I thought it was from the late 80s at first, what with those sweaters and all, but the EarthBound music definitely places it in the mid-90s. I guess maybe lame educational vi...Read More »
tan sent this to me a while back: Not sure if this has been pointed out before, but in the movie “Doraemon: Nobita and the New Steel Troops—Winged Angels” there is shot with a game box for “Father 5”. Maybe not that exciting, but I still thought it was pretty cool!? Yep, looks like a “FATHER 5” box but reversed or something! This sort of parody seems to be pr...Read More »
Gabriel sent me this e-mail a while back: Hey mato, I don’t know if this really counts as a reference. There’s an enemy on Dragon Quest X called “Giigu Hammer” Could just be a weird way to spell “Giga Hammer”, but I believe the word “ギーグ” is unusual, weird and I think most japanese players will innevitably think about Gyiyg when reading that n...Read More »
I’m very much out of the loop, but there’s a series of Japanese visual novel games called DRAMAtical Murder. I don’t know much about it, except for what I’ve read here. It seems that for an April Fools joke, a parody called DRAMAtical Mother was created that looks a lot like MOTHER 1: Here’s a video of it in action: And it looks like you can play it here (scroll do...Read More »
Since this seems to be Unofficial Reference Week here at EB Central, here’s another possible reference, this time a MOTHER 3 one in Pokemon X & Y. Dylankernou writes: So in Pokemon X and Y in “Shalour City” I noticed what I assume to be a Mother 3 reference in the Pokemon Center, a punk NPC gives out the follow text: “I’ve been playing this sweet game recently, y...Read More »
While we’re on the topic of MOTHER/EarthBound cameos in stuff, here’s another! I’ve read Gintama manga Chapter 416. I found that they said about Earthbound (Mother2) advertise leaflet a lot, and have some parody of this leaflet. This manga is really popular, and I’m glad that everyone still remember Earthbound. This is a parody of the live-action scene used for the MOTHER ...Read More »
- DJ: From what I’ve gathered I’m pretty sure he still writes copy, so they’re an ad company.
- cosmodos: What does his company even do? Is it actually lucrative? From what I can gather (not knowing Japanese), it’s just his blog, and he...
- Jason: http://www.ipokiso.com/company /2017/hobonichi.html The anticipated price per share is 2,300 yen. As for those wishing to purchase a share...
- Leeaux: Hey I just saw this! Really interesting watch to. Lots of little fun facts.
- Mary: The “behind the scenes” video on how the Ness animation was made is great too. The animators channel is A + Start.
