Post things about Mato's Mother 1+2 translation here, like discussion.
I have a request. I'm having trouble translating something that Mato didn't. The box that appears when you select a saved game. The one where you choose either to load, copy, or delete the file, or adjust file settings (Text speed, window flavor). I need someone to help me find the ROM address(es) of that text or someone that can tell me how I could do that.

As I recall, that isn't stored in text format, it's in fact stored in pure tilemap format AND is LZZ compressed with the window data, for no reason that makes any sense.

I can't walk you through everything, I just don't have the time :/ I really recommend that you read through as many general ROM hacking documents and tutorials before trying to tackle this one. Here's a good start: http://www.romhacking.net/start/http://www.romhacking.net/docs/It takes a lot of work to learn how to ROM hack. I think with your enthusiasm you'll be able to get far if you keep at it.

Hey Tomato, just wanted to stop by and say amazing work on the patch! Although I did notice a typo, after I rescued Pippi from the zombies, and brought her to the Mayor's office, and talked to Abbot, I remember him saying the following. "I'm Abbot, the Mayor.....'s assistant" shouldn't it be Mayor's?
Also, I dig the easy ring, makes the game go more smoothly, I played the NES version of it last summer, and I remember it being a pain in the ass with how long it took to grind.
Again, thanks for an amazing job on this translation, and thank you for doing this in the first place! I'd say this is the definitive version of Mother 1!

Nah, I knew that line would trip people up, but the idea is that he's saying, "I'm Abbot, the mayor (pause, to make you think he's the mayor)'s assistant."
Glad you like it so far!

Tomato's act of creating the MOTHER 1+2 translation is intensely radical, and I thank him every time I think about anything Earthbound related.

Hey Tomato, just wanted to drop by again, and let you know that I finished the game with your patch today! I myself can't believe I beat the game so quickly, apparently I have a really good memory of Mother 1, or the easy ring made the game go by quicker.
In any case, I must tell you that after finishing the game with your patch, I honestly have much more respect for Mother 1 than I did before when I played/beat the game last summer using my NES emulator of choice. I also used some of your tips to help getting into the game, and they sure worked, especially the one about being a kid in 1989 and going to the video rental store and renting the game, perhaps that contributed to me finishing the game so quickly? I don't know! All I know is, I was definitely able to get into the game and enjoy it very much, especially since I could understand what the hell was going on this time around!
As for the Easy Ring, it was simply perfect, made the game flow nicely, and in terms of leveling up, reminded me a lot like Chrono Trigger, plenty of battles, but easy to win, and no need to run away. I never ran from a battle this time around! I also died like 3-4 times in the entire game, which is.... pretty damn good in my book compared to my last playthrough.
By the way, I see you already noted the bugs I had noted in the new post on the EBC website, although I found one more you may/may not've caught. At the end of the game, if I recall, Ana says "I won't say say goodbye, i'll just say" "'Til we meet again my friend." say is written twice when it only needs to be written once I would think. I can provide a screenshot of this in action if necessary, it's in the first version of the patch by the way, 1.0 I think. If you've already addressed this, then what I just said is a moot point.
In conclusion, seriously Tomato, my words may not do enough justice for all the work you've put into this, but THANK YOU SO MUCH! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Awesome, glad you liked it! I was hoping my tips would help people get into it more.
Thanks for the typo tip, I've fixed it in the v1.01 patch. While I was at it, I ran the script through a different spelling/grammar checker and hopefully fixed most of the rest of the issues.
