The closest thing to a widespread vintage game store that I know of is Play N' Trade. The business model is much like Gamestop, but not as big obviously, and the franchise is run a little different. I believe Gamestop corporate (or w/e) dictates what games are accepted for trade-in, their values, re-sale prices, and certain promotions, whereas the individual Play N' Trade store owner can choose what items/accesories to accept and what to buy and resell them for. The one PNT I've been to had some decent prices (GB Pocket for $8 + Pokemon Blue for $3 = happy camper).

My PNT wanted $40 for contra, $120 for Chrono Trigger, $50 for Wario Land for Virtual Boy, $600 for a Virtual Boy System, $50 for Tetris on the NES, etc.

My PNT went out of business, thank god.

Ouch! Thats a bit too demanding dont you think? Chrono Trigger on the DS here is $20, PS1 is $40, and the SNES is $80... wait... i'm seeing a connection here.

Those are some outrageous prices. $600 for a Virtual Boy?!?!? That thing is worth like 50 bucks!
And there is no Play'n'Trade within 100 miles of me :(

$40 for the PS1 version of the game?
What the hell?!
I got it for $15 new in 2006-7ish.
I realize that's 3-4 years ago, but, still.
