Inspired by West_Haven's NES console help topic, I thought of making a topic for retro consoles. I hadn't played much NES in a while for whatever reason but the topic reminded me of why I loved the NES so much. It's probably my favorite retro console. I've had a lot of fun collecting for it and quite a few memorable experiences with it, as geeky as that might sound. It was the first console I attempted to take apart and fix as well as the first console I began to seriously collect games for.
This is just a basic topic for people to talk about their favorite retro console (I use the term retro loosely) and any reasons they have. Feel free to talk about any experiences you've had or just share your thoughts.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING will ever beat the Nintendo 64! Easily my favorite console. Hands Down!

I suppose that depends on what you consider retro, but, being primarily an RPG and adventure gamer, the PS1 and SNES hold a pretty close tie for me from all of the memories I've got from playing them back in the day. Admittedly, a lot of the jRPGs I played when I was younger I probably wouldn't like anymore considering my change in gaming preference as I've gotten older, but for reasons of pure nostalgia, they'll probably both be my favorite older systems.
If you want to get really retro, you can't beat the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, or even the MSX, even though they're home computers rather than consoles, BUT WHATEVER!

The Super Nintendo Entertainment system and the N64. Mostly because of EarthBound and Conkers Bad Fur Day.

I have to say it's N64. N64 is above all the greatest system ever made, got that one on Christmas of 2000. It was the special green one that came with DK64... oh those days of tedious collecting... you couldn't go wrong with the selection of games though... you got mario 64, oot and mm (best zelda game ever), ANYTHING made by Rare, megaman 64,furries in space, pokemon stadium, mystical ninja paper mario, kirby and the list goes on. Honestly Nintendo was at it's prime when they made 3D games, it honestly felt like magic playing on that console...

The console that has the biggest collection of some of the best games ever made is the SNES, in my opinion. Zelda: A Link to the Past (my favorite Zelda game), Super Mario World, EarthBound, the Donkey Kong Country games, all the best Final Fantasy games, Chrono Trigger, ActRaiser, Super Metroid, and so on. Such good stuff.
But for the console that straight-up gives me all the warm fuzzies, that's the NES. It's the first game console I ever played, it's the first thing that caused my brother and me to stop fighting and get along, and it's got all that great bleep-bloop music. The NES was my childhood. ♥

Yeah I guess your right, Poe. I wasn't giving the SNES enough credit The one thing that really impressed me was the fact that All of the SNES games really had something to provide, even if it wasn't a good game. And it has a huge library of games.

My console that I have a special place for is the Game Boy Color. It was the first console that was MINE, not shared with my brother, who never really let me play any games. He didn't want me to save over his games, which is understandable, so I was really happy that one Christmas when I got a teal GBC and Pokemon Silver. Silver remains my favorite Pokemon game (so I was so excited when SoulSilver came out!) and I love playing GB games on my GBC the most. It feels just so /right/ in my hands.
Currently, I've been playing Pokemon Pinball on it, but I play a tiny bit of Tetris on it too. (mostly, though, when I play Tetris, it's the Tetris DS version. I kick all sorts of ass in that version)
But yeah. Here's to you, little teal GBC. Because of you, I'm a handheld gamer for life; I feel the most comfortable with a tiny screen only inches from my face. Teal is also one of my favorite colors because of you too.

My first console was the NES. I broke it one day. First, I pushed an animal cracker into the game slot. My parents & Grandparents were able to fix it. But it was dealt the killing blow when I stuffed a scarf in it's game slot and threw it around while calling it my "ghost trap from Ghostbusters." My mom told me that I'd break it, but I simply told her that I wouldn't.... wish I'd listened. I played Super Mario Bros. 1 & 2, a long with Duck Hunt (loved the Laser Scope thingy). Also, we had Godzilla: Monster of Monsters (one of my favorites), Jurassic Park (we referred to it as "Jurassic Park Ocean" because of the development company's big logo at the bottom of the cartridge), Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and a few others that were truly underdog games. Then we bought a Sega Multi-Mega and had the pleasure of playing both Genesis & CD games. Sonic CD was epic, a long with Jurassic Park CD. It took my parents a month and a half (or longer) to beat both Sonic CD and Jurassic Park CD. Later, I got an Emulator and beat them both in hopes to fulfill the family name! Since I was a dumb kid back then, I found Ecco The Dolphin CD to be "scary" and have always been afraid of the water. You'd think people would credit "Jaws" for their fear of the water. But noooo! My fear came from a Sega CD game. I blame Ed Annunziata for creating the scariest deep sea creatures that plagued my childhood. After that, we got a Nintendo 64. We worked on Super Mario 64 and GoldenEye 64. Both were legendary to us. We also had Donkey Kong 64, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Blast Corps. 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and much more. Me & my family loved the old school days of calling someone for help with a game. Those were fun times. So what's my favorite retro console? I don't have a favorite. Instead, the listed above are my favorites!
