Hello, ladies and germs! This project is kind of scattered, and EBrent suggested making a topic on this forum for the sake of cohesion, so... I did. I hope this is the right place. :s

If you haven't heard, a Miss SaturnStorm has taken the opportunity to scan and clean up her various MOTHER mangas (official, doujinshi, and everything in-between) for translation, and many a crack translator in the community have decided to take a whack at 'em. Holy cow! I didn't realize there was so much. Nice work, ST.

My translated material is a bit scattered now. I was waiting for the whole thing to be finished before I package it properly for distribution. (We should put in a credits page, too.) And I will probably add a section for translated comics on my website.

As I said, I'm working on "Super Street Friends" now. I'm about a third of the way done.

Do you plan to mention that any translation intentions should be announced here? I am crossing my fingers and hoping some others join in.

Ugh, tell me about it. I think I might still have a few gaps here and there. And this isn't even counting unscanned stuff that's in SS's/my possession. She's apparently scanning the rest of the 1st 4Koma Manga theatre soon.

And yeah, this (and possibly Starmen for those who don't have an account here) would be the place to say "hey I'm gonna try this," so that a) 2+ people aren't working on the same thing at once and b) wannabe translators can hop on the train. ...The scanlation-train. Mangatrain. ...Yup.

Provided noone else is taking a whack at it, I'll try Golden Mother later. I kind of need a break to work on other stuff (I should have finished these Fangamer packing slips like a week ago ;_;).

I put up a section for comics on my site. There is no index page yet, but I will upload it to that URL when I'm done. My other two are there as well.

I would have been done sooner, but I was busy with other things. Plus, this is probably my least favorite section. I'm not especially fond of Hiroki Ohtsuka's sense of humor.

Nonetheless, I really upped my game, and gave it the best translation I could. I used GIMP this time, rather than Paint. It saves a lot of time, and the results are a bit better. I found some proper comic-style fonts to use, too. If any more of you folks are planning on doing some translating, you can find a ton of great fonts (for dialogue, sound effects, etc.) here:

I also used a font called "Don Casual" (a knockoff of Dom Casual). It's a printed script font that's compact, legible, and not terribly ugly. You can download it for free here:

I've noticed your file sizes are a lot smaller than mine, Strawberry Tofu. Are you doing anything special to achieve that?

Lookin' good! I've gotta say though, here I was thinking "Innocent World" was messed up...

As for filesizes, does GIMP give you a prompt to adjust the image quality when you save? I use Paint.net, and I turn the transparency threshold since there's no transparency to speak of (being scanned comic pages, after all). I dunno if that answers any questions or not...

Excellent job, Brent! Now that everything is in a neat little packages and SS got a couple more raws up, I've given a sorely needed update to the OP~

This whole thing was great fun and good practice for me, but I've gotta say, I sort of prefer the Enix 4Komas; they're occasionally patchy in places, too (I can think of one or two artists I could have outdone when I was in elementary school), but overall they're considerably more amusing. If I have time to work on this again (which will probably be a while from now, sadly), I'll have either that or one of Mikeya's books on the top of my list.
