Hi, this is my first time posting, but I've lurked around EB Central and starmen.net for YEARS. I'm writing from the position of pre-engagement. I've been blessed to meet an AMAZING woman and I'm wanting to earn some money for our future together (if she says 'yes', lol). One idea I've had is to sell my Earthbound swag, some of which I know is rare. I suppose I've always though I'd hold to it for grandkids... I know the air freshener isn't exactly like what the Honus Wagner Topps card is to baseball, but dang it's hard to find. But it has struck me that you don't to the position of having grandkids without a wife in the first place :)

You guys might know better than me, but I've scanned eBay auctions for years and never seen as complete a package deal as this one. (IE: I know pre-Lehman Bros. financial collapse an unopened Mach Pizza and winner sheet went for over $1000 in August of 2008). I'm fishing for price estimates... What would you pay?

*Game, definitely used but working!
*Full-size game box, used but in good shape! It also has the original store price tag.
*Guide, defintely used, but in good shape!
*Nintendo Power advertisements x 2
*Scratch n' Sniff cards, w/o the sixth contest card
*Scratch n' Sniff card advertisement
*Unopened Mach Pizza Air Freshener
*Contest winner sheet
*Game Genie Volume 3, No. 2 with Earthbound codes (highlighted, lol)
*Super Nintendo, original run poster (the Super Play Action Football, SimCity, Zelda III one)
*Random Fangamer buttons and stickers from purchasing the Mother 3 guide and the EB'9X shirt

and random notes I made throughout playing the game.

I, like many of you, bought (with parents' money) this game back in the summer of 1995. Having been a lifelong gamer, it is easily one of my favorites, and I've established many personal memories playing it since then.

Thanks for reading and for your input!

Hey, welcome to EBC! You are in good company, I just got married a few months ago and, like you, sold some of my collection to help pay for the wedding... now I'm selling more stuff to pay off the debt from the wedding! But here's my problem/blessing, my new wife, Melanie, is also way into the Mother series, so we keep keeping things instead of selling them. >_<

Anyway, check out the site http://www.gameswag.com

It has rough estimates of what different collectibles are worth.

I do a decent amount of merch buying and selling. I usually deal more with Mother items than EB, but I'll take a crack at what you got.

Your stuff is roughly worth:
*Game, definitely used but working! - $100ish by itself
*Full-size game box, used but in good shape! It also has the original store price tag. -$80ish, $280+ if you include your game and guide.
*Guide, defintely used, but in good shape! -$60ish
*Nintendo Power advertisements x 2 -Not sure which ones you are talking about, but maybe $15-20ish a piece if you're lucky
*Scratch n' Sniff cards, w/o the sixth contest card - $15ish, good luck, i've been listing mine on eBay for like 2 months
*Scratch n' Sniff card advertisement - $15ish if it's the one I'm thinking.
*Unopened Mach Pizza Air Freshener - A LOT, I'm not too sure but depending on the condition, you could fetch $200+
*Contest winner sheet - Sell this with the air freshener and you'll get mucho dinero
*Game Genie Volume 3, No. 2 with Earthbound codes (highlighted, lol) - Not sure, maybe like $10? Never seen one.
*Super Nintendo, original run poster (the Super Play Action Football, SimCity, Zelda III one) - Sorry, I'm blanking on which poster this is...
*Random Fangamer buttons and stickers from purchasing the Mother 3 guide and the EB'9X shirt - You'd probably get like $20 for the bundle.

I'm being optimistic on most of those. Again, these are just rushed numbers off the top of my head and probably aren't terribly accurate, but it's something to go off of.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend piecing it out and not selling it as a bundle... That being said, I wouldn't be a collector if I didn't make you an offer. I'd give you $400 for all of it.

...don't judge me... :D

I agree, sell the stuff individually if you have the time. I've spent about 2 months selling stuff on eBay, a lot of it EarthBound and MOTHER stuff too. Here are my suggestions from what I've learned:

Sell EarthBound as complete as you can. One complete copy of EB recently sold for around $1,000 on eBay, which is damn insane if you ask me. Since the mystery scratch card is missing, I'd shoot for .... $400-650. I do not feel comfortable suggesting such a high price, but based on the kind of money people are willing to spend on a complete copy, you might as well try your luck (and this is for a good cause anyway). You can slowly lower the price of no one bites. The item contents here: http://gameswag.com/view/earthbound-super-nes/ show everything that was included in the complete original package.

Edit: I found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EarthBound-SNES ... 1118wt_932 Not completely complete and it sold for $445.50

Air freshener and winner card together, like pk stan said. http://gameswag.com/view/earthbound-mac ... freshener/ that page says the average selling price is $250 right now. You could try going higher and then lowering after a while if it doesn't sell.

Use the Fangamer buttons and stickers as free bonus items with some of the pricier stuff (it might entice buyers that much more).

I'm not sure what to do with the other stuff.

Keep in mind that the major buying season is now over, but there will always be serious EarthBound buyers around.

pk_stan and Poe

Thanks a lot for all of the information. Particularly, the current pricing. Part of me wants to hold on to it awhile longer, and list it later in the Spring early Summer, but It'd be nice to have several extra hundred to go toward my plans.

My biggest debate comes from whether or not I try setting a reserve price, or start an auction at $.99 to generate interest. Both of you came up with great avenues for me to check. I appreciate the offer of $400, but I'll hold out on it :)

The SNES is the abbreviated version of this:

VERY common.

I'll be sure to check out gameswag.

Yeah, I didn't figure as much.

And you're very welcome. Glad to help!

Be sure to keep us posted about the engagement, and be sure to let us know if she says yes!

I would suggest against setting a reserve price. I read on a few eBay blogs that reserve prices make some buyers feel that the seller is being deceitful because nobody can tell what the reserve price is set at. Instead, set a high starting price and let it rise from there, should you decide to do it auction style in the first place. Personally, I'd put them all up at fixed prices and then slowly lower the prices if they don't sell.

I think Poe has given you some stellar advice here.

As a frequent Ebay-buyer, everything he has told you matches up exactly with my experiences/impressions.

Hey EBounder9X - Mato just put up a brand new resource for checking the average prices of EarthBound (cart only, guide only, and complete). See it here: http://buyearthbound.com/ It looks like I WAY overshot my estimate on what you could list your complete copy of EB for. So use that guide to help you out! :)

Poe, thanks for the link! I saw it as I was signing in; that's a great site design -and hope it makes collecting easier for fans! I like the interface.

I completely agree with the reserve price. I've bought and sold items for the better part of a decade and I never participate in reserve auctions. My thought was I'd save myself from being undersold, but overall it really doesn't matter to me. I mean, that air freshener hasn't seen the light of day in years :)

I have offered free shipping on more expensive items in the past - that's a good idea.
