A while back someone had posted something about how EarthBound carts are
overpriced. Most of you are probably already aware of this but Mother 2 carts are
way cheaper. I even saw a complete set for only $30. Is it worth getting a cheaper game if its in another language,
is there another reason (aside from selling better) that it could cheaper than EarthBound? While I don't
plan on getting one anytime soon I would like to hear peoples opinions on this.

Well one of the obvious reasons it's so cheap is because MOTHER is a pretty big series over in Japan as far as I can tell. That means there are plenty of copies of the games to go around, so it's relatively easy to find one. I did see a brand new set on YAJ not too long ago. For some reason, I didn't buy it, but I recall it had a fairly high price. I would say it's probably not worth owning a copy of MOTHER 2 over EarthBound if you want to play the game unless you can read Japanese.

A full set for $30 or less is generally a good deal I think. I've seen full sets go for as low as $15 or $20 sometimes.

It's definitely not as good as getting EarthBound unless you already know Japanese, but if you know the text and story well enough already then it probably won't matter too much. PersonallY I'd say get a copy anyway just to add to your collection

I'm planning on taking a Japanese class in college.
If I get confident enough in my reading skills, I may go this route due to the major price difference between Mother 2 and Earthbound.

And if you wanted to play one on your SNES, you would have to mod your SNES by opening it up and removing some pins.
Or just buy an convertor, but it's cheaper just to mod one, because convertors are like 40$ (Or just play it on a Japan SNES if you have one)

you'd have to have a converter because SNES carts and Super famicom carts are slightly different.

Well, MOTHER 2 was very successful in Japan, but the NoA had to select that piss-poor motto of "This Game Stinks!" You have to be on a whole different level of retarded to choose that as a slogan!

Seriously. Kids take everything literally. Who's gonna buy a game that reportedly is bad? The whole thing should have been saddled with "This Game ROCKS!"

How's this for a slogan?

EarthBound: "THIS GAME IS SO F***ING AWESOME, IT'LL MAKE YOUR EYES BLEED!!!"

That's even worse! But, kids will get all "daredevil" style and probably would have bought it!
