Thanks for the alert; I posted about it here: http://gameswag.com/2010/11/mother-2-dr ... ons-japan/

You do an excellent job of patrolling Y!AJ, and if you ever come across any more cool shit like this relating to any game, I'd be forever grateful if you would let me know here: http://gameswag.com/news-submission/ That way I can get the word out quicker because I don't check this forum very often.

Poe, you got it. Mother dominates my trawling but if there's a specific franchise or type of merchandise you'd like me to add to my daily searches don't be shy.

Well, not to bump my own thread endlessly here but I did a little research. Apparently Mandarake pays 100, 000 yen for these jackets or at least that's the bounty listed on their website. So it looks like the seller wants to at least make what he would get paid for it at Mandarake. For those who don't know, Mandarake is basically a hobby store but they do pawning of hobby related goods. If I had to guess they'd resell this for at least 200, 000 yen but probably as high as 300, 000.

If I had to guess on what this will sell for? Well, I'm stabbing in the dark here.

One the one hand from what I can see Mother stuff hasn't been as popular lately as it had been. The price on the figures and plushies has dropped through the floor and even the keychains aren't fetching that much. There have been plenty of semi-rares and rares snatching less than crazy prices in Japan and it's only Westerners even bidding on that stuff. Collectors here have managed to snap up great deals on rare stuff (neonix's M1+2 lot for example) and the stuff that's selling on eBay is going for quite a bit less than even a few years ago. On the other hand....this is different. We don't know for sure how many of these jackets were ever produced but this auction is a one-off for all intents and purposes even if this thing sells for a crazy high price. This auction is 'the big one' that I was hoping would show itself with the excitement surrounding the figures. Even if, hypothetically, the auction somehow managed to fly under the radar of any wealthy Japanese bidders there are quite a few unknown collectors here in The States who are probably already aware of the auction.

So with that said. I think the jacket is going to sell in the $2000-$3000 range and probably towards the high end of that range. That's about the point where it's past the limits of all but the most hardcore collectors and it eliminates most of the wild card bidders out there. At $1200 we're already in big boy territory so it should be interesting to see where it goes.

Personally I've decided not to bid. When I first saw the auction I got incredibly excited and almost robotically begin to move around money and see what I could piece together for a max bid. Then I went to work, had a chat with a few friends, drank a tea and calmed down. Even if I were able to get this at the asking price that's still a lot of money that I could use for other stuff. To top it off I'm not really sure how things will be in a few years and if I'll still feel the same way about the jacket or even the Mother series in general. Not to mention the fact that my collection is already getting a little out of hand and I'm almost out of wall space as it is. I'd have to cull the M3 and M1+2 parts of my collection and probably get rid of a bunch of the figures. I'm not really sure I want to go to so much trouble for an item that I had internalized as 'impossible' to obtain. Good luck and godspeed to anyone who decides to bid on it.

Ah, well, in a move we all saw coming I put together a bid for this. Nobody here seemed to be able to make a bid for this and from what I could sniff out there weren't any US collectors interested in the item. I did my part to get this to US shores but if anyone outbids me just promise you'll post pictures

Super flippin' good luck! There's only one day left and it looks like you've made the only bid (except the auction still says 0 bids?). I don't know a thing about how Japanese auctions are usually done, but it doesn't seem like anybody over there has really taken notice of the jacket, unless they're waiting to snipe it or something.

Yeah, I've been on the phone with paypal and my bank all morning. Since it's a larger than normal transaction it's taking more time than normal for the money to go through and it's the holiday weekend so it's taking time for the money to move.

Thanks. I'll certainly need it. Celga actually just contacted me last night to ask if I wanted to go through with the bid because of the seller's low feedback, and now this. Needless to say my stomach is rrrrrrrolin' right about now. I'm out for now. I'm going to try and avoid looking at all until the auction's over. I'll keep you posted.
