So the figures on YAJ are finally getting around the price range I find reasonable. And having finally decided my budget and which figures I absolutely want (Ness, Paula, Jeff, Poo, the Starmen, and Mr. Saturn (and maybe Pokey, Pickey, and Bubble Monkey)), I now can't decide on whether to get the 12cm or 8cm chosen four.. :/ I like the idea of them being a bit bigger and prominent display pieces (especially for the price they're gonna cost me, but I hate the idea of them being way bigger than the other ones, especially the tiny little Saturn men who are already short enough in comparison to the mini people.

I think I'd end up going with all mini figures if it weren't for the fact that they didn't make mini Starmen. So if I did do all mini but them, they'd be quite taller, but maybe that would look kinda cool, like the EB poster where Ness is tiny and the Starman is humongous.

I want other opinions, especially from people who already have some figures. How do the size differences look? And does anyone have some pictures of some of the actual unboxed figures next to each other?

I would say that the starmen would be like 7 or 8 feet tall in real life hence Ness' reflection in the starman's visor. By that logic they'd be just a tad over twice as tall as the children. The starmen figures are approximately that size proportionately to the mini figures and the starman dx is roughly that proportion to the large figures by my eye. The starmen figures are about the same height or even a little shorter than some of the large figures

I would say you could get away with buying a full set of minis and then one each of the smaller starmen to go with them. Now that I think about it that's what I might end up with myself as I really do like the wide array of characters and that Belch figure is just so awesome. I really do like the Mother 1 figures but they are a bit bigger than the Mother 2 figures so they look awkward next to each other and that puts them out. It's just like...there are so many different ways to display them and I've got pretty limited wall space I'm not sure what I'll do.

Hmmmmm... so I might go with the minis then.

Thanks for those links. That one with the picture of all the figures together was especially helpful. Although it also makes the large figures looks much cooler than the mini ones so I'm still on the fence. Arg

I guess this thread really put the idea of getting a set of minis into my head. Starting here I've been talking about it quite a bit on other boards and decided to go ahead and pick myself up a set

Nice to hear! I'm still trying to find the best deal on YAJ, but it's so difficult. I have to keep weighing out the price differences of all the auctions thanks to middleman fees being per-auction

Not to mention individual bank fees and shipping fees....It does get expensive quick, that's for sure.

Now I'm looking at the difference if I were to buy all three Mr. Saturns and all three Starmen vs. just the normal Saturn and the large Starman (I'd actually prefer just the Starman DX, but there aren't any single auctions for that one right now).

It comes down to a ~4300 yen difference, and that's a little over $50 today. I can live without the extra Saturns and maybe get them later on, but I do kinda want the three Starmen so I can display them facing Ness and friends in a sort of battle looking scene. Wouldn't look as cool with just one.

On another note, there's a pretty well-priced auction for Ness, Poo, Paula, the two Runaway 5 guys, and Venus. It comes out to about 600 yen a piece before fees, roughly 900 if you calculate fees in. But I don't want the singers. I wish someone needed them so they could go half and half on it with me

New note - Is it just me, or does the King figure seem very rare? I've barely seen any listings with it. And only one for him separately and the price was a bit high.
