Yeah but if I can get the exact same effect for less effort then why not? Whether or not I "deserve" one is completely subjective. If I can borrow a book from the library for free, or go and spend my money on the same book, just because I opt to save money (or in this case, time) at the library does not mean that I don't "deserve" to read the book. And forums are a technology too. And they're free. Why waste technology? I should utilize them!

Your logic and analogy are flawed... While time is money, it takes barely any time to try searching something on Google. And when you do use Google, it is automated. When you ask on a forum, someone else uses their own time instead of you using yours. So it's not free for the person who answers you.

How is my analogy flawed?
The person answering me answers of their own free will. It is their choice to spend their time/energy/resources to answer my question. Energy is saved as a whole if I ask via forums because if I search Google, I have to put in extra time to find my answer, but on forums I can ask and get a straight answer. I ask A and get answer D on forums, but with Google I ask A and get answers B, C, and D that I have to sort through. Unless of course, the answering person searches Google themselves
