Hey, I really love Earthbound. I've completed it a few times, and all around think it's a great game. I also use the actual cartridge, not an emulator. I also have a Game Genie. Now, I would really love to get the Debug mode activated, but here's where my problems start. First off, I do own two SNES'. One's a launch SNES (Model 1), and the other is a later-release. (But not the 1997 redesign.) They both work fine with or with-out the GG. All my games work fine on my GG too, except Earthbound. This is what I need some help with. Both SNES' will boot the GG, but then imediatly freeze when the Earthbound cartridge would boot. I honestly don't know what's going on. Maybe somebody could help me. That's all for now.

It may be because the cartridge you own, is:
A.) A reproduction cart, it has a anti piracing affect to it.
B.) it was a ROM prank someone hacked into.
C.) your SNES is just not right, THIS HAPPENS RARELY WITHA CERTAIN GAME BUT IT CAN HAPPEN!

No, I've had it opened and such, it's all official stuff. My SNES equipment (Encluding Earthbound) is Canadian though... don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I do remember reading something about some SNES-CAN software not working together... I think CAN Earthbound carts have a lock-out chip that (Of-course) won't work with the Game Genie. Not sure if that's it though, because some do work, from what I've seen. Well, I still just don't know. I may be getting a Mother 2 cart though, let's hope that'l work...

Yeah, you are dealing with multipul problems, if your stuff is Canadian, it doesn't funtcion properly. With most games, maybe EB is one of them,

I remember trying to use the Game Genie on my EB cart back in 1995/1996 and it almost never worked for whatever reason - I think maybe the game had stuff to prevent it from working or maybe it was just detecting that something was amiss. Regardless, it never happened with any other EB carts I tried years later - the GG worked just fine then. I still don't know how to explain it, so maybe you're experiencing what I did all those years ago.

In one of your older posts, didn't you mention that there is a problem when your using other country stuff? A copy right protection layer?

I have never in my life heard of a Canadian region. Are you sure you sure about this Canada talk? If there was, ever, a "Canadian" region, it is long gone. NTSC has been the region for as long as I can remember and that includes Canada.

Am I missing something here?

To be honest I always thought that Canada and the US were bundled into one region, most of the time when a release date is announced it says North america and doesn't separate the US and Canada.

Yeah, I'm fairly certain there is no such thing as a "Canadian system." It is simply NTSC and PAL for Europe and North America.

As for the Game Genie issue, GG's are notoriously finicky. You have to remember the Game Genie is a essentially a third-party hacking device. There are all sorts of games that have hiccups with certain GG's and certain codes. TBH, I don't think it is something that should be considered "abnormal" or "uncommon" at all for a Game Genie to behave like this. I know my Game Genie won't work with a slew of games. A game genie is not an exact science by any means. When it comes to compatibility and functionality, the Game Genie is by far inferior to the GameShark.
