It's happened several times. It's like it glitches up when I copypaste it; it works fine when I play it.
My secret? I don't really have one. Here's the steps I have: 1. Take a screenie of the text that I want to translate 2. Convert the japanese letters into hexadecimal coding using m2_jpn_table.txt 3. Open up Hex Editor and search for coding. 4. Copy ROM address into M2_misc_text.txt, and write test text. 5. Compile the stuff into the ROM (Translation: Run the i.bat file). 6. Play test.gba and see if the line needs tweaking. 7. If the line needs tweaking, go back to Step 5, but tweak the text.
Voila! Text translated! When I feel I have enough translated for another version, I just edit in the new code and change the version, along with adding an updates part that tells when I completed that version, and what I did. It's simple, really.

Ah. So I guess we're on the same page then. Which PSI power descriptions have you finished so far? I'll take care of the rest of them. Or work on more dialogue, whichever you'd like me to finish.

Hey, I found a fix for some of the problems we've been having. If the text's hex string in the ROM starts in the middle of an address, make sure that you insert all the hex before it in brackets. Ex. //ONETT COP 1 3C779 [1D][FF][00][FF][FD]ONETT COPS ARE[01][FF] FAMOUS FOR [01][FF] ROADBLOCKS.[02][FF] WE ARE[01][FF] CHALLENGING THE[01][FF] GUINNESS BOOK[01][FF] OF WORLD RECORDS.[02][FF] (Just translated this. It's consistent with Mato's M2 vs EB article. Don't put it in yet, though. Still ironing out some bugs.) And you don't have to stay within the limits of each individual line of text either. If a line in the Japanese version has only nine characters, the line that you replace it with doesn't require a max of nine characters. You can go beyond that, to a maximum of about 15 characters. Also, you can interchange the command codes [01][FF] and [02][FF]. As in, you can use a regular line break that will automatically initiate in the middle of a sentence, and a prompt break at the end of a sentence. It doesn't have to be consistent with the Japanese text. Just thought I'd share. You probably know all that anyway! EDIT THAT I ALMOST FORGOT: Make sure however, final replacement doesn't run over the number of characters in the original Japanese. Otherwise, the tools will insert your code, but you'll exceed the space allotted for that line, and what you'll have is part of another totally unrelated line being said by the wrong character. BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT THIS!!!!

Yay for double posting...
Control Codes? I got some more for ya...
[00][FF]- using this at the end of a line will make the text box automatically disappear once the line is finished being 'spoken'.
[03][FF]- using this will give you the pointer for a yes/no prompt. Will post again once I figure out how to get the yes/no part working.
[02][FF][00][FF]- Prompt Close, i.e., press A to close the text box. Very useful indeed!
You probably knew this before, Zunar, but it's possible to combine as many control codes as you'd like!
EDIT: Here's the final version of that Onett Cop line.
//ONETT COP 1 3C779 [1D][FF][00][FF][FD]ONETT COPS ARE[01][FF] FAMOUS FOR [01][FF] ROADBLOCKS.[02][FF][00][FF]
Had to remove the bit about the world record. It just wouldn't fit...

You know what would be really cool? I asked Mato this sometime ago and he said it is possible but if you can translate all of the Mother 2 side of the game I think we should hack it and turn the Mother 2 cartridge into an EB one and the Mother cartridge into an NES cart with a ? on it or the words Earth Bound.

I think that would be a good idea. I was really hoping that one of the mother 1+2 translations would've done that but none of them did. Its just a minor thing so it isn't a bit deal but I'd still like to see it. Well I seccond your idea Hiro.

Or maybe "Earthbound Compilation"? No offense, but Earthbound 0+1 sound weird. Earthbound Collection, or Earthbound Anthology, or something like that would be better, imho.
