A few days back some rumors started swirling about MOTHER 3 being localized outside of Japan. I’ve gotten a lot of messages and questions since then, but I don’t know what’s going on with these rumors. I hope they’re accurate, but I haven’t seen anything to substantiate them on my end. I’m as interested about what happens next as you are. ...Read More »
Last night was the second EarthBound Central Live stream on Twitch! If you missed it, you can find it here on Twitch or here on YouTube: We discussed recent EarthBound news, shared a lot of submissions from fans, checked out the fan-made MOTHER 4 trailer from a few months ago, talked about EarthBound posters on eBay, chatted about ROM patches that un-censor EarthBound, an iffy Smash Bros. pic ab...Read More »
A couple readers have sent in some pictures of the Devil Car enemy from MOTHER 1/EarthBound Zero as it apparently appears in the upcoming Smash Bros. games. I don’t know the source of these or if they’re even legitimate, but I thought I might share them anyway since they look pretty cool regardless: In EarthBound Zero, this name was actually localized to “PsychoCar” to av...Read More »
I thought I’d share this little April Fool’s joke that a Japanese MOTHER fan made: Nintendo Officially Announces MOTHER 4 It’s about time! They said they were gonna stop at 3, but they’re gonna make a sequel anyway? I assume the story takes place much earlier than 3, since the world’s been destroyed and all by then. It looks like the Kraken’s in it again…...Read More »
Over the past few months I’ve heard some very quiet, vague rumblings about a collector getting his hands on a prototype copy of MOTHER 3/EarthBound 64. I’m still VERY skeptical about it all, but here’s what I know and have been told by various sources. Apparently the trail started with a YouTube comment… which already sets off some alarms, but you can see it here: A month ...Read More »
Over the past few weeks I’ve gotten a lot of e-mails and messages about a couple of images that are supposedly leaked screenshots of Ness in the upcoming Smash Bros. game. They seem pretty iffy to me so I never really posted anything about them before, but I thought it might at least be entertaining to share them after all: And here’s a video a couple people have sent me, which takes...Read More »
Earlier today, Kotaku posted an article in which Bill Trinen says the Wii U version of EarthBound will likely just be the original game with no changes to it. He also says he wasn’t aware of possible music rights issues: […]They’re taking the original game and putting it on Wii U. If that’s the case, then hooray 😀 If you’ll remember, Reid and the Starmen.Net staff ...Read More »
I was browsing Starmen.Net’s archives from 10 years ago this month and realized that it was about 10 years ago exactly that the first rumors about the MOTHER 1+2 port and the MOTHER 3 GBA release started to leak out. Here’s the first one we heard of, posted on July 3, 2002. It’s from the old Japanese “Famitsu Cube” magazine: Miss Rumor: I’ve heard that one game...Read More »
A few years ago I made a post explaining that legal issues were the cause of why EarthBound isn’t on the Virtual Console (see here). The quick summary is that NOA wanted to make some changes to the game to avoid legal issues, but NCL didn’t want to make those changes. At the time I made the post, I was asked by our source not to mention specifics. After some prodding recently, though, ...Read More »
Whenever there’s even a slight hint of EarthBound/MOTHER news, sometimes it’s easy to try to read too much into stuff. I think the fan community’s been disappointed so many times by now that a lot of us have gotten numb to it, but it still happens a lot (not that I make things much better 😛 ) This isn’t just a Western thing though – for example earlier this month J...Read More »
- DJ: From what I’ve gathered I’m pretty sure he still writes copy, so they’re an ad company.
- cosmodos: What does his company even do? Is it actually lucrative? From what I can gather (not knowing Japanese), it’s just his blog, and he...

- Leeaux: Hey I just saw this! Really interesting watch to. Lots of little fun facts.
- Mary: The “behind the scenes” video on how the Ness animation was made is great too. The animators channel is A + Start.
