Fellow translator Jason M. just finished translating Shigesato Itoi’s most recent interview about the MOTHER series – you can check it out here! This is the same interview where he talks about why he’s not going to make any more MOTHER games, his thoughts on Iwata’s passing, his musings on the series’ popularity outside of Japan, and more. It’s an excellent rea...Read More »
A Japanese MOTHER 2 event is currently being held for a few weeks (more details here) and one thing that came out of it was a really great interview with Shigesato Itoi about the MOTHER series. You can find the original Japanese interview and article here. Unfortunately I don’t have time to translate the interview, but Kotaku did post a tiny translated snippet that explains why Itoi has no ...Read More »
I thought I’d share this little April Fool’s joke that a Japanese MOTHER fan made: Nintendo Officially Announces MOTHER 4 It’s about time! They said they were gonna stop at 3, but they’re gonna make a sequel anyway? I assume the story takes place much earlier than 3, since the world’s been destroyed and all by then. It looks like the Kraken’s in it again…...Read More »
Yesterday, for some reason, Shigesato Itoi started doing an advice column sort of thing on his Twitter for a short time. You know, something like where people would say, “My dog is hungry. What should I do?” and then he’d give a reply, oftentimes a silly one. Well, a couple people happened to ask MOTHER-related questions, so here they are! QUESTION: Mr. Itoi, I love the MOTHER ...Read More »
Just now on Twitter Shigesato Itoi posted a few things about MOTHER series developments. Here’s a quick translation: Since it’s now okay to blurt this out, here goes: the “MOTHER republication” thing I mentioned briefly before is making progress. (original post) And then: It’s not “(MOTHER) 4”, though! This has to do with making “MOTHER” playab...Read More »
I’ve gone through that discussion between Itoi and Iwata that was in the BRUTUS magazine the other day. Here’s a rough translation of it, as usual it’s sometimes kind of hard to pin Itoi’s thoughts down into something that makes sense, but it should get his basic ideas across. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 7 9:00 PM A Discussion with Nintendo President Satoru Iwata at Nintendo Headq...Read More »
That magazine article in which Itoi and Iwata discuss MOTHER 4 came out today in Japan – I don’t live there so I can’t get ahold of a copy myself right now, but eagle0wl posted some pics on the Starmen.Net boards earlier. As the guy on Itoi’s site promised, there’s a lot of art with the article, which spans four pages. The text is too tiny for me to read anything, ...Read More »
Yesterday/today a page was posted on Itoi’s site (see here) saying that the upcoming issue of “BRUTUS” magazine will include a four page discussion between him and Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the theme being MOTHER 4. The page on Itoi’s site (which was written by the guy who came up with the article idea, not Itoi himself) says, “Just to be completely clear up f...Read More »
Whenever there’s even a slight hint of EarthBound/MOTHER news, sometimes it’s easy to try to read too much into stuff. I think the fan community’s been disappointed so many times by now that a lot of us have gotten numb to it, but it still happens a lot (not that I make things much better 😛 ) This isn’t just a Western thing though – for example earlier this month J...Read More »
Joey D. sent this in yesterday, and it is mighty awesome! I produce an online review show that tackles the hidden classics of the 16-bit era. And since EarthBound is one of my favorite games (isn’t it for us all), I knew that my episode for that would have to be rather epic. I’ve passed it around on the Starmen.Net forums and xfisjmg1 thought I should drop you a line about it. I wound ...Read More »
- DJ: From what I’ve gathered I’m pretty sure he still writes copy, so they’re an ad company.
- cosmodos: What does his company even do? Is it actually lucrative? From what I can gather (not knowing Japanese), it’s just his blog, and he...

- Leeaux: Hey I just saw this! Really interesting watch to. Lots of little fun facts.
- Mary: The “behind the scenes” video on how the Ness animation was made is great too. The animators channel is A + Start.
