A number of other translations of MOTHER 1+2 are finished or nearly finished, here’s an update on two others. Brazilian Portuguese: 100% complete! This was done by Foffano and the other folks associated with EarthBound Brasil. I swear, that site impresses me more and more each time I check it Check out the site here, you can download the MOTHER 1+2 patch on the right sidebar. Mexican Sp...Read More »

domflo just sent me his German translation patch for the MOTHER 1 side of MOTHER 1+2. You can download it here. I don’t speak German, so I can’t say anything about the quality one way or the other, but it looks pretty good from what I can tell. If you want to translate MOTHER 1+2 into your own language, you can use the tools I provided on the MOTHER 1+2 translation page. I created...Read More »

For a while now, I’ve wanted to make MP3 rips of the MOTHER 1+2 music – mostly just because it’d be nice to have around sometimes, usually to show people the difference between the original games’ music and the GBA ports’. Some GSF archives exist, which you can get here: MOTHER 1 GSF archive MOTHER 2 GSF archive GSF files are basically the GBA equivalent of SPC file...Read More »

Just wanted to mention that thanks to help from everyone who’s sent me reports (seriously, thanks!), I’ve fixed a handful of typos and formatting issues in the MOTHER 1+2 translation. I just put up the new version of the patch (v1.01) on the project site here. Hopefully that should take care of most (if not all) of those issues, but if you come across any other stuff or come across any...Read More »

The question’s come up a lot since I released my MOTHER 1+2 translation the other day, so I should try to explain why it would be a lot of work to fully translate the MOTHER 2 side of the game too. (more…) ...Read More »

If you’re playing the Mother 1+2 translation I just released and run into any bugs, post about them here, it’ll be easier for me to keep track of them all when I go to make an updated patch someday. The currently known-for-sure problems are: #buglist li { margin-bottom:20px; } Choosing the fastest text speed in battle will make it say it’s the second-fastest speed on the file-lo...Read More »

It’s taken quite a while, but at last my MOTHER 1+2 translation patch is done and ready for downloading! Check out the page for it here: The MOTHER 1+2 Fan Translation You can download the patch there of course, and you can also download all the tools, files, and source code I used to create the patch. Today I finished my final text-polishing phase and test playthrough of my MOTHER 1 retranslation in MOTHER 1+2. Barring any unforeseen catastrophes, the patch should be out before the end of the month. I still gotta do a few last things, try it out on real hardware, write the readme, package everything up, etc. but it’s pretty much almost ready to go now. For those just joining, here are som...Read More »

Over the last few days I had a little bit of free time, so I used it to get a bunch of text checking/polishing done with my MOTHER 1 retranslation. Of course, it’s important to note that since this was a Famicom game originally, the original text wasn’t as snappy or interesting as the later two games. Still, I think the final patch will make the game a lot more enjoyable to players tha...Read More »

Last night the Starmen.Net/Fangamer guys kicked off a MOTHER 1 Fanfest (site here). A little bit before it started, Reid was like, “Hey, is your translation far along enough that we could play it for everyone watching?” So I sent him the current beta build of the translation patch. He and his cohorts played through from the start of the game all the way to saving Pippi, so if you want...Read More »
