EarthBound Zero at PAX East 2012
The other day a friend living in Mexico messaged me with this: so, i got a Reproduction Cartdrige of Earthbound, its the Earthbound Zero (without the Zero Logo) and my Nes is dirty, is a long time that i had not use my console and i got this glitch He wanted to know what the deal was and how this was even possible… so here’s a quick explanation! It turns out that the original MOTHER l...Read More »
The other day I posted an old MOTHER 1+2 interview that EarthBound fan “Iwant” had translated into English (see here). Well here’s a new MOTHER 1+2 interview translation, this time with Kouichi Ohyama, MOTHER 2′s art director! His/Her MOTHER feeling ~ Kouichi Ohyama’s opinion~ Here’s an excerpt: In truth, I still do not understand very well this popularity sur...Read More »
I sometimes wondered if different versions of MOTHER 2 might play faster or slower than other versions – and then I stumbled upon this Japanese video that compares the walking speed of the GBA MOTHER 2 and the Wii U Virtual Console MOTHER 2. (GBA on top, Wii U on bottom) As you can see, the GBA version has slower walking. I don’t know if that’s because the Wii U’s Super Fam...Read More »
A fan by the name of broomweed has started on a hack of MOTHER 1+2 to make MOTHER 1 very Mr. Saturn-like, as inspired by comments years ago on EB Central! Here’s a description of the project: Hey, you! Do any of the following apply to you: Haven’t played Mother 1 because of the lack of Mr. Saturns in it Always wondered what the Mr. Saturns would be like in Mother 1 Love trying to deci...Read More »
A few years ago, while working on the MOTHER 1+2 translation, I made a hack that turned my custom Easy Ring into a Hard Ring. Reid then played the game live for everyone to see here. It was a lot of fun to see in action! I realized that I never released a patch with the Hard Ring enabled, so here’s the latest build of the MOTHER 1+2 translation with the Hard Ring stuff activated. To use it, ...Read More »
Earlier today I remembered that when MOTHER 2 was ported to the Game Boy Advance, Itoi didn’t make many changes to the text at all. For instance, he made the decision to leave date references alone, like 199X and having to return the library map by 2001. That said, there WERE some slight text changes though, and one of them has to do with a baked goods seller in Burglin Park. Here’s ho...Read More »
Wowow, I finally made it to the other side of my move – I went from Old People Town, Florida to Tucson, AZ. It’s been crazy busy buzzy but a lot of fun – probably the highlight was getting to visit the Fangamer office and hang out with everyone. I’ll probably talk more about all that stuff later on, for now let’s get to the questions! (Also, if you’re just now t...Read More »
Currently my main computer and 99% of all my possessions are now being moved across the country, which makes it a bit harder to do EB Central updates. So, for the next week or so I thought I might do some question and answer-type updates to tide us over for a while. Basically, if you have any questions about EarthBound, MOTHER 3, MOTHER 1, EB Central, or whatever else, let me know in the comments ...Read More »
The other day I posted about some hacking progress with the MOTHER 1+2 and MOTHER 3 music formats (see here). The problem with the GBA music (particularly MOTHER 3) is that the hardware limitations produced a sort of soft “fuzz”. But now you can play the music on your computer without that fuzz! For example, here’s the Love Theme from MOTHER 3, as it sounds on the GBA: Audio clip...Read More »
A few months ago Bregalad released a utility called GBAMusRiper that rips the music from many GBA games into MIDI format with accompanying sound font files. Apparently it even works with MOTHER 1+2, but only the MOTHER 2 side. And it works with MOTHER 3 too – apparently to the point that a hacker by the name of LuigiBlood was able to do some basic music insertion. Here’s a sample: And...Read More »
- Elobo: Esther, you certainly lit the audience on fire. Gobsmacking . You’ve really done something wonderful. Hat’s off, major kudos....
- Bionic: Thanks Mato! I was just thinking– did anyone screencap the starman crabwalking? Hahaha! Best part of the bash
- Mato: Bionic: Wow, I had no idea about any of that. That’s really scary and I hope he gets better. I won’t lie, there were a few times...
- PKHomerun: Did we ever find out the history of the Porkey/Pokey name choice?
- Anonymous: Very fun. Thank you for everything.
