In the history of the MOTHER series, there’ve been several released games and a few cancelled projects. But out of those, only one game made it out of Japan: EarthBound. By now we all know the story and history of the series (if you don’t, see here), so I won’t go into that. But we can still play the “what if” game So today’s poll question is this: What if Ear...Read More »

Many years ago, Nintendo Power sat down with Shigeru Miyamoto and asked him about Ocarina of Time and a few other games, including EarthBound 64. I forget the issue number, if anyone has it handy lemme know. How is EarthBound 64 coming along? Miyamoto: I think we can release EarthBound 64 by the end of the year. Even though the game is canceled, I still kind of wish they’d show us more from...Read More »

Joey D. sent this in yesterday, and it is mighty awesome! I produce an online review show that tackles the hidden classics of the 16-bit era. And since EarthBound is one of my favorite games (isn’t it for us all), I knew that my episode for that would have to be rather epic. I’ve passed it around on the Starmen.Net forums and xfisjmg1 thought I should drop you a line about it. I wound ...Read More »

YouTube user dudaw12 posted this yesterday. It’s a re-creation of Tazmily from EarthBound 64 in Mario 64. It’s not completely accurate due to technical limitations and the differences between the two games’ engines, but it’s still a neat look at what might have been. I’ve made yet another fun level using Frauber’s wavefront obj importer. This level is from the ...Read More »

The February 1998 issue of Dengeki 64 featured a lot of MOTHER 3 / EarthBound 64 stuff. Although I don’t have the time to translate it, I think fans of the series will still find it neat. #gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf;...Read More »

Aerostella came across this scan from the November 1999 issue of Game Informer. In it, it previews EarthBound 64 but calls it EarthBound 3. (click for full size) Back then I don’t think it was called EarthBound 3 by anyone anywhere, so I’m guessing the editors tried to fix the game’s numbering issue themselves. Even Nintendo Power and Nintendo’s site were calling it EarthB...Read More »

Jack recently sent this in: eBay has a subsidiary company called half.com where you can search for and pick up a lot of things (video games) for cheap. One of the first games I searched for of course was EarthBound, and… the attached picture might evoke some of the same thoughts it did in me. I added it to my wishlist! It’s true! You can see for yourself here. The “EarthBound Ex...Read More »

V-King sent in these scans of an article about EarthBound 64 that appeared in the German magazine Total!, which I guess has no relation to the UK magazine with the same name. Anyway, here’s the article: And here’s the translated text: (more…) ...Read More »

A few years back turkranma made a really nice EarthBound 64 / MOTHER 3 tribute video, but then the other day I noticed that his account was suspended for some reason, so the video was no longer available. Luckily I had a copy of it on my hard drive so I reuploaded it here: I know it’ll never be released to the public (unless someone becomes a super-spy) but how cool it would be to play arou...Read More »

In the summer of 1999, a playable demo of the Nintendo 64 version of MOTHER 3 (henceforth EarthBound 64) was shown to the public at Nintendo Spaceworld ‘99. The Internet was still young back then, and we were all naive chaps, so looking back now, it was incredibly lucky for us that one of the very few Japanese fans we were in contact at the time with attended the event, took pictures, and wr...Read More »
